Loopest 60 Posted April 27, 2014 So I think I figured out why they haven't been able to add bicycles... You guys know how characters get saved across all hives? Well maybe they are trying to figure out how they are going to save bikes across every server... Just an idea...
Deathlove 2286 Posted April 27, 2014 Naw, saving vehicles across all severs would be OP. If ppl really want the vehicles they SHOULD stay dedicated to one server to get the most out of the experience.
hrdrok 183 Posted April 27, 2014 I don't think they intend to have vehicles save across servers. That way people don't hoard vehicles from other servers.
p4triot 207 Posted April 27, 2014 (edited) They wont, vehicles are bound to server. Edited April 27, 2014 by p4triot
kichilron 8550 Posted April 27, 2014 Even though vehicles are bound to specific server one still has to implement the necessary bits, so it gets saved. As far as saving vehicles across servers: how would that work? Someone drives that bicycle and it magically drives itself on the other server? For that simple reason it's impossible to have them globally - you are the only one playing your character, which is why that is possible. This does not apply for vehicles, however.
Dagwood 680 Posted April 27, 2014 The people asking for vehicles confuse me. Our characters run faster cross country than bikes ever got us places in the mod. Is a 20 minute run across the map really that bad? But if it would get the kiddies off of the coast I guess it's a good thing.

In fact i would dare say they were one of the best vehicles overall in the mod. They are quite, have no issue going fast offroad, and require VERY little maintenance compared to allot of the heavier vehicles that require engines and a buttload of other things to make work right. Trust me you find a bike you will cherish it when you do find one.
scriptfactory 620 Posted April 27, 2014 (edited) Does it make sense to save vehicles on the server but save character locations globally? What happens if I am traveling across the countryside and am disconnected? If I join a new server will I lose my vehicle? scriptfactory 620 Posted April 27, 2014 Yes thats why you put the servers you stay on the most as your favorites. But if I am driving a vehicle I kinda' see it as my equipment. Does this mean we won't be able to transfer our vehicles to other servers like Rocket mentioned?
Dagwood 680 Posted April 27, 2014 But I already run 15mph. And everybody is on the eastern most fourth of the map. In the mod we were slow enough to warrant the need for light vehicles like bikes. When the game is closer to complete and we actually need to hoard survival equipment and build camps, vehicles will be necessary. But atm all vehicles would do is over stimulate the addoral jockeys that are already ruining this game.

p4triot 207 Posted April 27, 2014 (edited) When vehicles are added people will start playing on same server and ghosting and server hopping will become much less of a factor, except for lone wolves who don't give a shit about vehicles. But right now those are top everything (gear) and when vehicles and bases are added, even if they have top gear, not being bound to a server will imply being on a huge disadvantadge towards those who are. At least was like that back in the mod. Bound vehicles make sense, if not, clans would just hoard Helis and all sort of vehicles from different servers and put them together in one server, turning this into battlefield 3. And no, thanks. I already have BF3 for that. P.D: what makes a lot more sense is having some way to logout with YOUR vehicle, making things still fair for everyone though. Because back in the mod, one of the big problems was losing your vehicles simply when you were not playing because you were busy with RL. If I gotta lose my vehicle, ok, but I'd rather lose it "on track" while defending whats mine, not because im at the office. Gekkonidae 270 Posted April 27, 2014 I think they will keep it like the mod. Vehicles bound to one server. So hide them well and they will likely not be taken by other people.
gibonez 3633 Posted April 27, 2014 Reason they havent added bicycles is because whats the point ? Your character already runs at 15 mph whats the point of adding a bicycle that is marginally faster. I really hope they slow down the player speed depending on the more gear they have and the more weight they have.

The logging out with your vehicles would provide advantages and an OP kind of sense in itself especially if its a vehicle with guns and armor. Maybe booby trapping vehicles and bases should be a thing that way they might have an advantage but at least the person who owns them does too.

I think if ppl can break into your camp while you are offline, then they should be able to do the same to your vehicle. Of course you can hide your camp and vehicle in a remote spot and add booby traps and such and then do a little prayer before you head to work that morning. ;) Edit: i type so slow by the time i finished the post someone else made the point. Imagine going about doing whatever than a guy spawns outta nowhere with an armored humvee or tank and blows you way. Wouldn't be very fun would it? lol
Deathlove 2286 Posted April 27, 2014 Stuff like this would be appropriate for car traps i think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOpNtEQysTU I don't condone anything like this in real life just making a point.

.Ender. 42 Posted April 27, 2014 Like Deathlove said, remain dedicated to a server if you plan on investing time into anything beyond your characters possessions.Part of the game is having to travel on foot, as in a real life situation you wont necessarily have unlimited fuel to syphon or good tires/brakes and things to get you around constantly. You will rely on energy efficient travel, IE bicycles. Even then you run into issues with chains and tires (if you have air tube ones). besides, most of the vehicles you DO find in DayZ environments are older. This means crappy plugs, contaminated fuel, seized parts, etc. I think people just like to complain about anything they can...they want 'this' then get it, and now its not good enough. This is a survival game. Do you remember when DayZ FIRST started? People were not INTENDED on living beyond a few hours. Even the intro to the site shows the average length of lifespan for characters... Now you invest hours into your character and get pissed if the character dies and you have to start over. That's how the game was indented. Vehicles, pets, houses, etc is moving the game into a totally different direction from how the game started out. they're convenient but really..its all about survival without life's commodities. if you want to invest, go play City Life lol
korpisoturi (DayZ) 127 Posted April 27, 2014 I'm already seeing it with my eyes. 50 helis on one server  Nope

I think these kind of things SHOULD be rewarded to players but they take just as much work and risk taking to obtain. They would still take insane amounts of survival skills to keep up on as well as defend against. Having a base will expose you allot to dont forget but the rewards should be just as much to compensate for the increased dangers. If they added a layer of minecraft building with greater ease of where to place objects and how they look i think it would add a nice depth to it. But anything that requires a generator should require much care to maintain. As well as things like attracting more zombies to your location with increased lighting source as well as bandits and heroes alike.
.Ender. 42 Posted April 27, 2014 Well I think vehicles were a pretty cool addition to the mod, but they should be hard to get running. You can either make fuel extremely rare and hard to get to (put fuel in areas controlled by snipers, high counts of zombies, areas you're exposed), or just simply make parts very rare to find. The 'end game' aspect of DayZ should be just as hard to maintain as when you start out, the biggest difference is you have A LOT more to lose if you die later on in the game. But, like in the mod, dying wasn't a big deal because you have so much stuff at 'base camp' where you are easily careless with needing to survive and you can just regear at any time..thats no fun. How will real-estate work if people are hording areas or constantly ransacking other peoples stuff? (destroying it or building infront/ontop of someone elses things).I think one interesting thing in State of Decay I noticed, was you can establish outposts and have any nearby zeds taken care of if you replenish your defenses. Essentially creating safe-zones. But all of this only leads the veterean players to have all of the advantages and new players to either join a community and hope to be accepted or fend for themselves when they're killed for 'trespassing' or because they have no where to turn to because all the loot zones and good areas are taken up.
