500 second wait timer? Rant @ devs

More reasons as to why there's a timer Here.

One of the issues is that swapping servers causes a serious performance issue for the central server not to mention the game server itself. This involves a real cost, both financial and in overall performance, of the entire network. We have many changes planned for this system, but as it stands now, switching servers places a great strain on theentire architecture so we must do absolutely everything we can to discourage it, and when it does occur, give the server maximum time to process logins at it's own convenience.

On a game server level, the single biggest performance hit to a server is when a new player joins. Depending on the amount of inventory, a new player can have a performance impact orders of magnitude more than a new character for an existing server player. On the central server level, the most demanding thing the central server does is to authenticate and load a player on a server.

It does not matter if the difference between your login is 10 seconds, or 10 hours - each login results in a strain on the system. The main issue with 100 person servers is not the server operating, but it's inability to deal with the constant flow of connections + disconnections. A 100 person server with no connections and disconnections is quite stable and performance is acceptable.

While we are investigating other solutions, such as improving performance and queuing systems - these take time and in order to do this we have to solve some other issues first.

Since this timer i have not seen one ghoster, it works. Actually you only get a 500 second timer if you have been switching constantly, i beleive it is 5 times within ten minutes which means the op is server hopping anyway.

Your clueless OP

Ahh yes ofc, i completely forgot this.

This was also the case in the mod, so why should it have changed that much.

If this is not a valid reason to put a 500 secs timer on a server switch, i dont know what is tbh :)

Why is it not the solution, sounds perfectly fine to me.

I hope the rejoin same server timer is off on current stable, antihoppers(ghosters) like now it s still a joke, and need more polishing.

PS

Nice ugly avatar, is that you ? It may be, considering you just post to troll or to troll who don t think like you, nolifer ? Tech/Troll/Rant/Alpha poster in a forum to discuss the game we r financing.

Then wait for private servers and enjoy :)

It isnt the solution because it defeats the entire purpose of having public servers.

It also severely limits the way we can play the game, because your character would be bound to one server only, making clan fights "impossible" for example.

And you would not have a chance of running into new and exciting people, everyday, because it would be the same people on the server, just like private servers in the mod.

Yeah okay like that, I get your point but maybe it would be a thing to make clusters or something that would share the same charachter.

Also private server sounds like there would be a whitelist and password or something (which is also fine by me but sometimes kind of awkward).

Thing this that you gotta admit this whole timer solutions feels like a quick and dirty fix for something that requires a little more attention then just slapping a penalty on it. Again not implying that server hoppers shouldn't be punished because it is annoying.

Thats exactly what it is mate, a quick and dirty fix for a much larger underlying problem, which will take more time to find a solution for :)

Go one page back and read the post from reddit, by Rocket and you will understand :)

This is bad!?

This is great news! :D

How is that great news?

Get bad connection on one server and then you have to wait 10 minutes for new server?

That's fucked up. Server hopping isn't this bad problem that everyone have to suffer.

I think that there shouldnt be waiting time on the same server ( or like 45 seconds ) and no waiting time if you get kicked. I hate kids abusing admin so him and his mates can get all the loot, and us normal players get screwed. I learned not to join "Clan" servers or the ones that simply say  join = kick, but it still happens to me even on servers with 15+ people.

I only have one hour to play with my friends because of time zone issues,

First server...reboots. 8 minutes.

Second server...night time....8 more minutes

Third server, squad mate lags and joins wrong one....8 more minutes

Fourth Server is normal.

That just snatched away more than 40% of gameplay ( more than 40% because time to load textures and stuff ect)

I'm all for a timer. Really, I am. In fact, I don't think prior to 0.44 I would have complained about the timer other than, "Oh well, guess I'll go get a glass of water or make a sandwich" and most of the time I never waited more than 90 seconds anyway. 8+ minutes is just absolutely ridiculous, though. I don't see the point in the timer being THAT long. 2 minutes? Okay. 5 minutes? Rough, but I'll deal. 8 to 10 minutes? WHY? WHY WHY WHY?

560 seconds wait time

this is a game breaker for me. ts says it all, fix bugs, make a game and stop annoying players.

And put stuff like this in your changelogs

time for me to look at the competition

SOME of US have LIVES, Girlfriends, Jobs, Gardens, A house, SHIT TO DO.

That's all your fault. Get a girlfriend who games, problem solved.

Seriously though, hate when people makes post like this. "I have four kids, a wife who hates me, and I work two full time jobs. And you expect me to wait 500 seconds to switch servers? I'M ANGRY AT YOU BECAUSE I MADE THE TERRIBLE DECISION TO NOT HAVE ANY FREE TIME!!!!!!!!"

?

While I was testing experimental .44 at least, you could leave and rejoin the same server over and over with only a 30s/60s respawn timer.

Note about getting kicked: Problem about being kicked is you're probably in a street or some other interesting place when you get booted. So very probably the zombies will eat ya for sure.

In case the next time you log in you're still alive, then start running FIRST, because by the time you can move properly, the new zombies will be eating you for sure and all the kids in town will be shooting at you too.

Don't ever get kicked within a mile of anywhere at all. When I'm on low pop servers now, or "clan" servers or any of those other "XXX" servers, I just never go close to anything interesting ever. It's not worth it. I'm starting to meet enraged zombs half a mile out of anywhere. They used to be rabbits, but now they're NOT.

Anyway:

I think the 10 minute wait time is NOTHING  when you find out a server that SAID it was 13:45h turns out to be Black Midnight. And so you log out. I think the wait time to log into another server should be increased to 2 hours.

It is a very very very very very difficult task for a team of pro programmers to get a Server to Tell You What The Time is on the Server World. It's just as difficult as having the in-game sun move and the in-game shadows move during the server day... MORE difficult... definitely, because the sun moves on a timer, and that would have to be READ... My Great Gad.. (lol - do any of you remember in the MOD the clocks on the towers actually TOLD you the real Server Time inside the game). SO obviously we can't expect any paid group of experts to simply SOLVE this problem by working at it.. It's much more logical to tell ONE MILLION kids that the Server is set to 13:03h and then let them find out for themselves its really 02:AM when they get there, then they can spend their TEN MILLION minutes wondering what LIFE is ABOUT, and wondering if maybe they will find a server to play on the next time they try. Good Grief, you think a programming team can solve a problem like "server time" just as easily as sending manned vehicles to the moon or building the International Space Station or Analysing the Human Genome or something... jesus... there are problems and there are PROBLEMS

spend your waiting time wisely children... play POKEMON like I do. Im SMART

I've had this problem three days in a row now, really cannot be bothered with waiting six/seven minutes everytime I try and play this game...

I do server hop when i am dying from the game broken mechanics.

While i do consider it fair to start from scratch when i am getting killed by zeds or other players, i do not agree to spend my hours to get back my hard earned gear just because glitched stairs or rabbits. I have run after a rabbit and died. I have agreed to test this game and i never complained about anything regarding the multitude of issues, but i do not agree to spend another already spent time because a glitched stair. So, even if i am killed by a hacker, (just happened once in 300 hours but i am just 75% sure of him being a hacker) i am starting over on a regular 10+ server. If the game issues/problems kills me, i gear up in less than 15 minutes and then i am going as fast as i can to the same spot i was killed trying to live from there as if the game/stair/rabbit did never happened to me.

But that's just me. You can all say you never logged and also you never geared fast. That is just between you and your mirror

when you look at it in the morning.

The timer seems just fine for me, but i also think that something should be done to differentiate the combat logging from server "connection lost" and other kind like this, other than the intentional logging i mean. No idea how can be done though :(

Gardens

Its tough growing that indo.. takes so much time. BIS just wanted to give some more to do it thats all.. LOL

I log in. Crap server.. disconnect. 400 seconds later,  I log in.. Pitch black server.. not feeling it right now. 500 seconds later, I log in... server restarts.

4 seconds later, I turn on my TV and turn my PC off.

In most games Queue times are frustrating and lead to bad reviews, in the dayz the general community ask for "moar queue times"!

In most games perma death is a bad idea and frustrating, yet the people of dayZ love it (so do I, not because of the punishment but because of how important gun fights become, the tension).

In most games running for hours and wasting time doing boring things is uninspired and time wasting without the fun part, hence why nearly every MMO out there has Mounts to improve traveling experience, Yet in DayZ community loves to run for hours viewing the same landscape over and over again. (funny how all bambi's I meet ingame are actually pissed off about the running, hypocripsy anyone, it's all good when you're killing others tho right?)

DayZ community = Take everything from Standard gaming that's proven to work: out, and go in the opposite direction by adding all the things that gaming has involved from and surpassed over the last three decades.

Then you have a product like DayZ.

DayZ is suppose to be about Immersion, Survival, Player Interaction, Fighting off Zombies, there are so many thing BIS wants to add into the game that will leave you trying to survive rather than the plain old Player vs Player.

You players who are so butthurt about Hoppers taking easy loot and not securing a kill, why don't you play a game like CS:GO, or COD, wait there isn't enough death punishment and greifing in those right?

Keep creating a game that appeals to only a small amount of gamers and alienate the rest of the potential gamers. Then cry when you don't have enough of a fanbase, developers stop support and hackers run rampart.
