Deathlove 2286 Posted April 7, 2014 Sadly I think the devs are afraid of gore for some reason. :/ Hope they realize the main demographic playing the game are in their 20s + .If they want to make this the Hello Kitty of zombie games than be my guest. Thats extremely sad though as the premise of most infected and zombies are that they are CANNIBALS that eat the flesh of normal ppl. No one under 7 should be playing this game anyways lol. Since the game is sold through digital distribution mainly I don't see why they are so afraid of pissing off the ESRB. Make the game gory, screw the ESRB they have no effect on your game being sold through digital distribution.
enforcer1975 1111 Posted April 7, 2014 I find the lack of carnage not proper for a video game like this. If your going to have a zombie/infected based game these kinds of things WOULD and SHOULD be common place. I can understand for certain types of horror based games like Silent Hill where sometimes the greatest scare wasn't what you saw that scared you more than the psychological effect it would have on the player in general. There is already a good amount of the Silent Hill type feel in this game but what it needs is proper gore and hacknslash. You can scare people without having to rely on tons of gore. You'd have to create a certain athmosphere though but DayZ doesn't have it when you hear gunshots all over the place. Nowadays gore is like every other cgi effect/explosion/nuke...way too much and always present through the whole movie/game.

Why are you playing a zombie/infected simulation when you dont want real simulated wounds and gore? Its 100% surreal that there is no carnage in this game. With a disaster this intense there should be ALL KINDS of horrible things everywhere you go. Not just a half assed blood splatter on a few buildings and walls. So...Id love to see this and i hope the developers want to eventually get to this stage of the game as well. Where gore and severing become an art for the true nature of a zombie/infection apocalypse. And yeah i REALLY think they should have bottled sodas for use with the can opener. That would be prefect and try to fix the normal animation of the caned soda opening.

-Gews- 7443 Posted April 7, 2014 Better effects should be in but I hate overdone "silly gore". Pretty much any game known for having gore has "silly gore". Most zombie movies have "silly gore".
Deathlove 2286 Posted April 7, 2014 Realism? He might be referring to the intense carnage in combat. But so fare this is the CLEANEST zombie/infestation outbreak i have ever seen.

Accolyte 1727 Posted April 7, 2014 I'm not exactly sure what realism has to do with any of this. But yeah, all of these make perfect sense and are absolutely necessary. :) I wouldn't mind a few heads on sticks along with hung corpses around my base, just to show potential looters I mean business. > :( Some fetish necklaces for the truly psychotic player haha. Also it would be fun to punish bandits by cutting there arms off and leaving them to starve, or lining 10 up as bowling pins, cutting one leg off so there balance is off then use one as a bowling ball too see how many you can knock over. Also pliers to pull teeth out, what do you guys think?

Deathlove 2286 Posted April 7, 2014 I could get behind the decapitated heads on a stick idea. Use a hack saw on a dead corpse that a player no longer has control of anyways. Use the severed players head with a pair of sticks you find to make a makeshift pike and place them where you want in game.
Accolyte 1727 Posted April 7, 2014 You shouldn't be remember we also wanted cannibalism and other grotesque things. You know, I personally would understand cannibalism. It makes sense from a gameplay point of view - another source of food. But having mechanics like pulling out teeth with pliers just for the sake of having the mechanic doesn't make sense to me (all the weirdness aside).

Deathlove 2286 Posted April 7, 2014 And who do you want to scare off with that? Zombies? Most players won't bother. It doesn't quite have to be used to scare anything off it can be used as a warning sign for bandit territory as well. Why did Vlad The Impaler impale so many ppl? He wanted to make a statement to the invading army encroaching upone his land. And it worked to great extent.

Asking for a bullet to the head to look real and asking for gag balls are two different things.

Thadius (DayZ) 40 Posted April 7, 2014 (edited) I remember the old Ultima Online MMO. God that game was hardcore when it was released (got patched into retardation eventually). For you who dont know it, basically the most open fantasy MMO I ever played, where you could kill anyone or rob anyone, with (semi)perma death and full looting of player corpses. Its that last part I mention above where they had a... interesting mechanic for.If you killed a player, you could "use" any edged weapon on his corpse, severing, legs, arms and head into separate pieces. Then on these pieces you could apply the edged weapon again to further separate into bone and flesh. If used on the head, you would get ears, brain and skull for example. The torso would produce various organs and ribcage. Now, in Ultime Online, these things if put inside your property (like a castle), did not despawn and the game had a stacking mechanic. So some people built thrones of player skulls and other bizarre creations involving organs. Interestingly, the ears were the only part that retained the name of the player who uuuh... previously owned it. So some Player Killer guilds had these huge stacks of ears filling rooms, like... a murder archive. Good game. We should have something like that. Atleast the ear mechanic. An ear necklace of newspawn killers. That would be swell. Edited April 7, 2014 by Thadius
eleventhavenue 204 Posted April 7, 2014 I'm not exactly sure what realism has to do with any of this. When you hit something in reality, it would break. You usually hit other people in DayZ, so it would be nice and realistic if hitting people made them look broken. It doesn't need to be over the top, but it would be nice if you could get nasty-looking wounds, blood-soaked clothes and bandages, as well as having your character react properly with audio to the situations. Yea not sure how torture could be good for gameplay but gore could potentially be. If bodies stay in the game for longer a dead body with proper gore could warn players of what could potentially happen to them if they stay in the area. They could say run into a body in the road missing a chunk of its head and immediately know a sniper shot him giving the player the chance to sprint to safety. Or Thy could see the body riddled with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and midsection putting him slightly at ease.
