hannibaldaplaya 1095 Posted April 4, 2014 Unfortunately, no. For a few logical reasons- A. Would be hard to optimize and make realistic.B. Would be abused by 12 year old kiddos.
xxxlulbotxxx 1 Posted April 4, 2014 Woo guys what a great idea to have a bunch of pre-pubescent kids lighting the entire map on fire so it crashes everyones computer and makes every server look like shit. Lots of fun.
Pandema 352 Posted April 5, 2014 I certainly hope not. Chernarus is damn pretty, I'd hate to have it turn into a charred wasteland. Also, unless its particularly dry a forest doesn't burn to readily, and it seems to be rather wet in Chernarus right now.
AryanBoogeyman 185 Posted April 5, 2014 OP resembles a root vegetable. I just keep imagining Beavis shaking and muttering "FIRE, FIRE, FIRE.... "
Golden Child 73 Posted April 5, 2014 I feel like burning down a building with someone inside of it will be pretty cool ^_^
louist 163 Posted April 5, 2014 well... maybe it could be an option to turn on or off? either way, it is painfully unrealistic to light a tree on fire, and it just to stay on that one tree... i would be pissed. this game is BUILT around realism. It's actually quite difficult to light a living tree on fire in the first place. You need a considerable amount of fuel. Even in the case of natural wildfires, you need pretty dry conditions, and the fife begins with the underbrush, which provides the initial fuel before it starts to consume trees. That's why you see so many fires in California as opposed to, say, coastal British Columbia. Without a lot of dead and dry underbrush, even a lightning strike fails to start a fire. Chernarus, judging by the in-game weather, seems to be a fairly cool and wet country. You would need gallons of gasoline, and even then it may not spread. So I wouldn't call it unrealistic by any means.
Ken Bean 175 Posted April 5, 2014 I like the idea of some kind of fire system. Of cause it's unrealistic to burn an entire wood in this scenario but a dry field... As long as it looks beatifull, why not?
Zalvager 51 Posted April 5, 2014 When you light a tree on fire, will it spread through the forest... i would be very upset if it weren't.Good luck setting fire to a forest during autumn.

louist 163 Posted April 5, 2014 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Russian_wildfiresThat link hardly disproves me. It clearly states that the summer was the hottest recorded in Russian history, and the region was suffering from a draught. Chernarus, meanwhile, seems to have daily rainfall, and (based on the mod, as SA doesn't yet have a temperature mechanic) it frequently gets cold enough that you need a fire or hear packs to stay warm.
liquidsnake 275 Posted April 5, 2014 It's extremely difficult to light a tree on fire, let alone an entire forest. And why the hell would you want to do such a thing anyway?

Caboose187 (DayZ) 3036 Posted April 5, 2014 On topic pleaseIs this your thread? No. Are you a mod? No But just to please you, no fire should not be able to be spread. I can see way too many exploits in this.

I can see way too many exploits in this.Eh, we all have a vested interest in keeping these threads on topic. Exploits aren't the issue, in my mind. The scope and difficulty of the system is. Not to mention the performance issues I can see it raising. Hell, the mod lags out on me whenever someone satchels a building. Imagine what a forest fire would do.
