M4A1 Attachments

Hey,

I just found the ACOG optics (pristine) for the M4A1 and.. I'm quite disappointed. I tried to shoot a zombie out of a distance of ~200 metres and I needed 3-4 shots, although he was exactly in the middle of my crosshair (not exhausted) in kneeling position. Actually I have the feeling that the common M4 carryhandle optics are better.

And do they have a difference in "melee" accuracy? Like ACOG = sniper and bad for low range while the carryhandle bad for sniper and good at low range?

greetings

No difference in accuracy, the ACOG just allows you to better see how inaccurate it is.

How damaged was it? The damage causes a kind of innate sway i believe and harder to aim etc

I use a BUIS if I can find one. Turns the M4 into a beast. Doesn't cloud your perifia vision at all with pin point accuracy down range. Also try swap all the parts of the m4 with better condition ones as you find them I think that helps.

Item condition has less to do with it than the type of attachments. Basically find a magpul handguard and buttstock (NOT the CQB) and it becomes bearably accurate. Throw a bipod on it and it becomes like it should. I am still trying to figure out how a surplus mosin can outshoot an M4.

M4 accuracy is horrible and no where near realistic values.

Hm ok, so I have to adjust my zeroing, get magpul handguard and buttstock (not cqb) and a bipod and it gets accurate? Another question; the bipod only improves the aim in prone position right? So if I kneel it has no impact on accuracy?

with the MP parts it becomes the most accurate weapon in the game when it comes to dispersion. ;)

Correct on the bipod.. you wanna trade my BUIS for your acog? Ive been looking for one for a while. ;)

hmm, I once shot a zombie with one shot at 500 metres with an M4 with ACOG, magpul parts and a bipod (prone). And I am really not that good at shooting in this game.

Nice shot!

Yesterday I shot one at about 400m with my BUIS standing. Headshot. I felt good about it, and saved my buddy in the process ;)

lol, with buis it's more of an achievement I think. Also, I have to admit, my zombie was standing still.

The MP butt stock is a very important factor in dispersion and will decrease your dispersion dramatically, also the M4A1 Bayonet increases dispersion 20X as much as a silencer.

To sum it up:

Magpul handguard and Buttstock make the accuracy. NOTHING else, not even partconditions. You can have a badly damaged handguard and it won't differ from a pristine one.

Check this  http://www.dayzdb.com/items?type=27-attachment

-minus dispersion is always what you want.

Hmmm, nice. I always thought condition of parts did matter? I wonder is this true for all weapon attachments? (minus some scopes with obvious, visible damage issues)

Yea its true, conditions don't seem to matter at all. I never care for conditions and my weapon hits on-spot as it should. The only condition to matter is ruined ofc. That basicly treats any part/clothing as if it was not even there...ever tried shooting an M4 without a handguard or a buttstock? It's hillarious.

I always thought the same, but after some testing, it seems it doesn't matter at all. For now. Maybe we'll see it implemented in the future. Honestly right now the weapon cleaning kit is almost useless, as most of the time the weapons getting damaged are pistols/revolvers and they're usually ruined instead of worn, damaged, badly damaged. I never seen a damaged rifle yet...

I think it would be nice to see something like that make it in the end, because the condition will finally matter more. For clothes, it affects the looks, but I read that it also affects how much damaged you can take. Never read any numbers related though.

Thank you guys, I guess you are some experienced players :D one more question to combats: As you recognized I'm not that experienced and I wonder what is your strategy in close quarter combat with the M4A1: just hit with the white spot and strafe while shooting, like the last guy did who shot me down (I could barely get him into my crosshair) or, aim in (rightclick) and stand still (kneel down). Or strafe while aiming? Of course proposed you stumble on someone and have to react quickly.

First of all. Let me get to Carryhandle or BUIS. You will notice that any reddot sight has a seemingly slight zoom. Thats the same soon as if you'd press + (or double + to toggle zoom). With Ironsights this is not possible. Meaning red dot sight has a slight disadvantage over BUIS, very close up, but is better for most other situations.

Most of the time though, very close up I'd just spray like insane with the white dot while I'm strafing. BUT this is not counterstrike. Avoid such very close up encounters whenever possible. You need to seize any advantage available, and usually this close up it just comes down to who has the bigger magazine. I had such a battle very recently. We both had M4s and stood basicly right infront of eachother, strafing and spraying. Somehow we both lasted about 3-4 seconds (which is extremly long) and then both fell to the ground unconscious, getting eaten by zombies. The CQB Buttstock might have helped there to reduce the white dot's dancing around my screen while i was strafing.

For me aiming with the white dot has a better performance in therms of frames per second. When I scope in, the framerate drops and I can hardly hit a moving target.

I laid down, extended the bipod on my M4, ranged a zombie at 300m. Aimed, fired 1 shot and it hit him exactly where I was aiming. Took  a second shot and it hit right where I was aiming (centre mass). Zed was dead on the second shot.
