Do you want working helicopters and planes in DayZ?

I just saw the stills from Rezzed where Dean Hall laid out the current road map for DayZ. One of the things I was very surprised to see was that helicopters and planes were listed. Some time ago, I saw as post (by Dean I believe), that stated that they did not intend to add helicopters and planes to DayZ SA as they wanted to keep more on the civilian side of the civilian/military scale (unlike the mod).

 

My feelings are that working helicopters and planes were way too accessible in the mod. Chernarus is a nice size map, but it is still way too small of a map for flying around. There is a lot of power in being able to zip from one end of the map to the other in a few minutes. I certainly don't mind crash sites or even scripted crashes, but I would be quite happy if DayZ SA did not have helicopters and planes.

 

How many people want working helicopters and planes in DayZ and to what extent? Now, I am not asking the question to get people to support my view. I am just curious to see what the community wants.

Considering the sheer amount of people playing SA that appear completely new to BI games, watching them fly ARMAcopters could be pretty interesting.

 

I don't see any problems with choppers/planes. Dean made it clear at Rezzed that they would likely be very hard for players to put together.

Yes, they added a good bit of tension in the mod.

 

Helicopters need to have some form of armament as well (i.e. door mounted guns). Which should actually have a finite ammo count. And should be a lootable/addable item to a helicopter, and shouldn't come standard. And should need to be maintained.

starting an airplane or helicopter, turbine or recip, is not very complicated. Most planes and helicopters will have a checklist to follow for starting. Where the interesting part comes in is actually flying it and not turning into an expensive lawn dart.

There not going to be easy to get at all but the downside to this is its going to encourage MASS server hopping to get all parts for the flyers.

Helicopters desperately need this as a modification in DayZ.

 

 

Anyone playing "Ride of the Valkyries" will automatically get shot at on principle, for broadcasting something so cliche. Anyone broadcasting anything that includes the word "metal" in the genre, will also be getting shot out on account of the cliche-ness.

 

In fact, anyone not broadcasting reggae or gangsta rap will be getting their helicopter shot at. End of story.

That would be so awesome. I would love if only us real pilots were the only ones who could fly. Would stop me crashing in my noob friends choppers all the time. I would fly but none of them can shoot either  ^_^

 

 

Would be cool to actually have them fly like real choppers too so I would stop doing barrel rolls and octouple backflips hard landings all the time.

I think helicopters and planes are a pretty stupid idea, considering the circumstances. Small two-seater training helicopters can burn 9 to 16 gallons of fuel an hour. Yeah, that sounds totally attainable in a fucking zombie apocalypse. That's not even taking into consideration maintenance.

   Transport helis would be a viable option for me. Planes are useless and OP due to the small size of the map. Attack choppers, though, dear god. In the mod they wrecked HAVOC.... (See what I did there?)

I don't mind having them in game but maybe one of each but before you could fly them you would need to find parts and fuel for them so they do not dominate the game also have it so that the parts only respawn once every 24hr in game cycle.

 

When they do come in to the game there must be a way to be able to take them down like stingers and make it that the stingers are not as rare so that a few players can find them.

yes, if it's very rare and requires lots of rare parts to make it work.

 

wouldn't that make it practically useless then? yes. the thing is that it would be a nice "end game" goal to make a chopper work. then you can ride it to sunset (e.g. crash it on bambies at the coast).
