Atnas666 6 Posted March 29, 2014 Why is there no tag of who killed you and by what? surely this is rather important... Specially with all the dirty hackers

Atnas666 6 Posted March 29, 2014 Because it is not realistic?May b not but it also is not helpful.... Specially as there are no server logs and 6 of 30ppl on a server dye in the same town at the same time (from what sound like that new silence .22 pistol)
Inception. 9443 Posted March 29, 2014 What's the point in knowing someone's name, anyway? People can change their names easily.
GpB311 236 Posted March 29, 2014 I dont mind it in ARMA 3, but Ive always liked that they dont do it in DayZ...Even though Im not a huge RP guy, I feel like it adds a little to the immersion.
Katana67 2907 Posted March 29, 2014 (edited) Not needed. Just gives people a reason to hold a grudge against a particular player. Especially in the mod where we had the moronic sidechat, where people could actually air these grievances if the form of hyper-blue spam Plus it was annoying in the various mods, when they gave out "W killed X from Y meters with Z weapon" type kill messages. pixels3d 3 Posted March 29, 2014 This isn't COD TDM. Probably the best response I can give.
Jamz 253 Posted March 29, 2014 The idea is that you wash up on a beach and know nothing of the situation but what you find out as you go along. You wouldn't necessarily know anyone in this situation, so anyone you meet would be a complete stranger (unless you knew them before hand). If the situation were real, would it matter to you who you killed? and if you're worried about revenge on your killer in the game, then you should remember what they are wearing as the diversity of clothing options in DayZ allows for a certain degree of player recognition. Essentially, the lack of tags helps create atmosphere and immersion.
Irish. 4886 Posted March 29, 2014 Ill answer your question simply: This is not an FPS arcade shooter.
solodude23 649 Posted March 29, 2014 (edited) Absolutely not. That would destroy an important part of the game's immersion & tension. You have to visually check to see if you got a kill. If you want to know who you killed, go over to the body and check the pulse. Edit: Sorry didn't read correctly. Still against a killer tag though. thebomberman 20 Posted March 29, 2014 So much this! ^ If you get the kill marker you know it's over. If you can't be sure then the tension remains and that's a HUGE part of DayZ for me.I'm not one to use the realism card (it's very much a game) but it would really ruin the feel of the game.

The "realistic" argument people makes confuses me sometimes.Ok, so then would you rather not respawn at all and only have one life per steam account? *facepalm* Having "IDs" just makes it easier and not very threatening in my opinion. thebomberman 20 Posted March 29, 2014 (edited) Check the original post again. More closely :)If you're referring to the hacker bit, then it's pointless as you can change in game name. That's (hacking) for Bohemia to fix anyway. Edited March 29, 2014 by thebomberman

gibonez 3633 Posted March 30, 2014 It isnt in because it snot realistic. Just wait for private hives I am sure there will be a script to show player kills in the bottom corner , weapon used, and distance. Rather simple script and someone always makes one. Daemonkid 493 Posted March 30, 2014 Well, uhm. I'm kind of for it, and kind of against it. I remember I was playing breaking point and I was running through a forest, checking my surroundings and everything. I ran up, and all I hear is the sound of a melee attack burying into my skull. I was killed by a invisible player with a hatchet to my face. Would've been nice to know who killed me so I could've reported the hackin' SoB. But, yes it's gamey, but maybe make it a tog-gable thing that shows up in the bottom corner if you choose to have it on. All it should do is just say "Killed by XXX" and just for you.

Thats my point!!! ok so may be sum of u have miss understood this post.. I no its not COD for christ sake! But as a guy that runs a server it would be nice to know whats going on when many ppl die all at ONCE! in the same town... Even a event log that was only server side would be fine.... As when 6ppl complain about it at lest the admin can check it out
anothercynicalbrit 166 Posted March 30, 2014 (edited) What's the point in knowing someone's name, anyway? People can change their names easily.I wish it was tied to your steam name, it would make it so much easier to report a hacker on the off chance you catch one red handed. To the OP, i don't think they should have the kill log because as people have said it is not realistic but i do wish there was some way to find out who you have killed, like a check dog tag feature or something like that. edit: spelling Edited March 30, 2014 by anothercynicalbrit
scriptfactory 620 Posted March 30, 2014 Please stop using the "realism" argument. No one can run hundreds of kilometers, powered by beans, chopping zombies in the face. Everyone I know can walk and eat or turn around in a small room while holding a firearm. DayZ is not realistic. It is fake as hell.

Everyone I know can walk and eat or turn around in a small room while holding a firearm. DayZ is not realistic. It is fake as hell.People need to realize that you can have a realistically influenced game without being LITERALLY "realistic". Of course it's "fake as hell" compared to real life, but compared to a variety of other games it's quite realistic due to realistically influenced features! There must be compromise, but that does NOT mean realism is not a factor! I'm getting quite sick of the "anti realism" argument as it's basically saying you can't use realism as an argument simply because it's a game and that's ridiculous. There's a great extent of variety in terms of realism in games. In general, I can say that the more realistically influenced features, the more immersive the game becomes (of course with compromise).
