Do bandits really exist on DayZ Standalone?

Recommended Posts

I play as a survivor. I try to talk before shooting unless I see something nasty going on. This has got me killed as many times as ive killed ppl. But that's ok, still fun trying to RP.

I've only killed one person since the standalone came out and it was some dude attacking me with a fireaxe on opening day

so I don't really kill people

I'm a lurker on the fringe as well.

Just a few minutes ago I was doing something I rarely do...  Looting the NEAF, trying to find that darn Amphibia mag.  (Never found one and carrying the pistol for days)  I really want to have it when hunting comes into play!  Anyway, as I usually avoid the high traffic/deathmatch areas, I was ultra careful scouting it out in advance from range with an LRS.  No activity for over 10 minutes.  Creeped up to the ATC, skirting the hangers, no magazine.  As I walk out, I see another player running my way behind the hangers.  Try and turn the corner around the building and get shot in the legs (he was a really bad shot as I was maybe 20m away).  I skirt the building, bandage (thankfully legs weren't broken), quickly check my FNX to insure its ok, and then check the servers.  A player had logged out - skirt the building, check the stairwell and doorway, nobody - apparently he was the one who logged.  I run like the devil for the hills.  Once I get there I assess my situation and find the Amphibia and my pants are ruined.  Let that be a lesson to me for not following my own rules!  Still kicking, and wiser for the experience.  (He was going to get some .45 bullets from me if he hadn't logged however...  :))

fun times fun times. NEAF is a serious tempter too cause there aint a lot of cover and you can see whats comin and goin pretty easily - that does have a flip side tho.

I haven't played in a long time.

But with ~20 hours I've only killed 2 people, but they both attacked first.

During the first few days of the release there weren't any bandits, just confused people in the dark.

I think people need to play the game as it's meant to be played and not label people who play it differently

And how, pray tell, is that?

I personally think people shooting first at others out of fear will soon reduce considerably as interacting longer will be seen as more fun and rewarding. How you interact may not be the friendliest either but the initial "bang bang your dead" for fun will die out somewhat.

I find your faith in humanity disturbing.

I think this belongs to the KOS Thread...

Whatever, people tend to shoot on sight on the coast for self defense, since there are the most "bandits".

Like it is now, "bandits" are just fully geared people that head for elektro or coast in general to shoot other people to not get bored.

Just my two cents.

I won't sugar chair my answer here, I'll be forth coming; I am actually your definition of bandit. I rarely try to KOS, I actually try to rob people, and leave them. It can get me killed, when I sneak upon someone and tell them "stick your hands up now dirtbag!" They sometimes comply, I rob them a bit, unload their weapon(if they have one) and leave them. Most times they spin around gun drawn and I pop them because I have to and little do they realize they can get away from me alive. This tactic usually gets me killed when I had the drop on someone but overall it's more entertaining and is something besides death matching it .

I try to talk to people, but I have a bubble. If you violate my bubble you will be respawned. I don't think this makes me a bandit just b\c I kill someone that runs at me yelling friendly, but I know ppl who would.

but why are people on the coast ? to kill others even if your killing "Banits" it makes you a bandit its a never ending circle which is why I made the post

I stay away from people if possible. Once in awhile, I do interact with a player. So far, two of them were friendly and two logged when I told them to put away weapon and calling them out for interaction. Didn't kill them though, didn't feel the need to.

My friends are more trigger-happy but I manage to hold them back when I stick around with them. Mostly because in mod, we were all filthy bandits that traveled all across the map and hunt people down for fun and sake of it. Rarely do I need others gear so robbing people would be out of my book.

I play every way possible.  It's the only way too play.  That way I can criticize people who criticize people who play a certain way.  But truth be told, Morality is a vulgar and primitive concept invented by our ability to invent concepts like futility.  After a particularly painful death, I might grap an axe, bat or hoe and roam the streets beating the hell out of anyone and everyone I see.  After I get killed, I may calm down and repent, hand out some cans of beans.  If I'm feeling psychotic, I may shoot your legs, and run circles around you until i get bored and either drop some morphine and run away, or just run away.  Since it's a sandbox, I will treat it as such.  And the whining of forum responders will not deter me.

Unless I play with my clan.  Then I am a different person altogether.

ive shot people, I shot someone with a snipr 400m away not to long ago , we thought someone was being held up, but we weren't certain, the shot was far enough just to knock him out though, seemed fine after he walked away, we just let him go on his marry way.

it was a mix of "how humans should scare animals away, so they don't get too close" thing, and that we felt someone was being held up, because it was at the appartments above balota, and they were just standing still fiddling about inside a building through the window

one had his gun out running circles around the guy, and one was kinda just watching him from 10 ft away

OP, by bandit, do you mean a simple robbery, without cold-blooded murder?

If so then yes , you could call me a "bandit". If the victim doesn't do what I want, its for my own self-preservation that I put em down. Shouldn't argue with the person pointing a gun at you.

Or do you mean by "bandit", cold-blooded murderers, the ones who had a different character model in the mod?

Keep in mind i usually steer clear of people.

yep eveyone on heres a the jesus od DayZ

also, we do respawn, so...

If most bandits were still just 'catch and release' robbers, people would probably put up with it still and play along.

Unfortunately, from what I've seen in the game, they yell for you to get down on the ground... and then they kill you anyway.
