I will be adding this to the Community's Weapon Suggestion list next week!

I posted a few weapon suggestions myself. Can you check 'em out?

Yes, as a rare spawn. It could do a lot of good in the right hands or cause a lot of chaos if a bandit finds it.

Just add every weapon from the STALKER games, bar the gauss rifle. Would work for me.

As Garberro already said it is, at best, a precision selective fire integrally suppressed carbine, that can at a push be used to carry off precision shots just like any other selective fire assault rifle. Also effective max range is a lot different to effective combat range.

Stick a x4 or x6 military type scope on a standard suppressed M4 with a good shooter you get the same effect, yet would you class that as a sniper rifle ? I think not.

If it doesn't have 1 MOA or less then I wouldn't touch it as a 'sniper' rifle with a barge pole and personally I prefer with 0.5- 0.75 MOA such as a timberwolf or coyote. But I'm nitpicking, because I can. But this is a game and not real life so what the hell it is a nice weapon system and would be great for CQB.

Id rather they steered away from military weapons, leaving CDF weapons and VERY rare foreign mil weapons, with more common semi auto low cap mag civilian versions of military weapons

All I can think of is how hilariously overpowered this gun was in STALKER ONLINE (now sZone Online.) In general, I don't really like integrally suppressed firearms from a balance perspective, especially ones that fire huge bullets like the 9x39mm. It doesn't generate a supersonic crack, even!

Also, while I know it's argued that Chernarus is a fictional place, there's not really any place a AS Val or a VSS make sense that isn't Russia. It's not a prolific weapon in the least that doesn't belong in a generic Slavistan sort of place.

I'm not too big on adding in the AS Val, the VSS I fully support however as a super rare loot drop alongside ammo and magazines. As a sniper rifle its unique, while many sources say its effective range is 600 meters, user accounts say that the 9x39mm round starts to show bullet drop at around 300-400 meters depending on weather conditions and its perfect for eliminating targets in body armor. In addition the 9x39mm round comes in a number of unique variants such as SP-5 (Full Metal Jacket), SP6 and BP (Armor Peircing), PAB-9 (Hollow Point) and SPP (Match Grade Sniper ammo with increased penetration)

More like 200 meters... it drops around 10 meters by 400m.

Sighting range:

100 meters head

200 meters chest

350 meters man-sized target

Of course it doesn't generate a supersonic 'crack', the whole idea of this weapons was to use subsonic ammunition the SP5 or SP6 pushing between 900 and 1000fps otherwise it kind of defeats the object doesn't it? Who the hell would use hot +P or +P+ loads through a silenced weapon when the whole idea is to keep the weapon as quiet as possible. If you're going to start spouting make sure you know what it is you're talking about. Anyone who knows anything about firearms would know that a weapon such as this is designed with the use of subsonic ammunition in mind.

The effective range of this weapon is 400m tops and as Gews rightly points out the drop is horrendous

I said the VSS lacks a supersonic crack. If I write 'supersonic crack' there's a pretty clear implication I know that subsonic bullets are designed to do that. 9x39, .300 AAC 220grn loadings and such. All I said is I didn't find the idea particularly balanced.

Also, you do realize they do not make +P or +P+ for a rifle, right? And that +P+ is not an industry recognized standard? I'm also guessing you know that cartridges like .38 Special and .45 ACP in their +P defensive variants are frequently not supersonic, and a '+P' rating doesn't necessarily indicate they break the sound barrier?

Oh noooooes. Well, given some rifles fire handgun cartridges there was probably an exception in there regardles. However, I don't believe +P rifle ammo is common otherwise, especially in a self-loading rifle.

My only issue with it is that the current damage system would not serve the ASVAL well. Its traits are that the ammo is silent and has a lot of piercing capability, but the calibre is something like 9mm, so the damage would be incredibly low.

It's "only" 9mm but the bullets are twice the weight of those in the 9x19, heavier than those of the .45 and are moving faster as well. Supposedly it yaws on impact and at 1.4 inches long that would do some damage.

It's right around the same energy levels of .45acp and 9mm nato at around 450-500 ft/lbs of energy.  BC of course is much better, meaning that it's going to be effective at much greater ranges, but it's certainly not playing in the same league as super sonic rifles.  Even the "Dinky" m16 produces around 3x the amount of KE and dumps energy much more rapidly as well.  Regardless of the comparisons, the 9x39mm will still kill the shit out of you, certainly not something to underestimate.

Exactly, but IIRC, the Arma damage system had them do a very disappointing amount of damage. And since the current damage system is very similar, I'm afraid the ASVAL wouldn't be all it can be.

Hello there

Remember that just because it was a certain way in Arma this doesn't mean it will be the same in Dayz. Damage values can be "quickly" altered.

I used +P and +P+ as an example for those with an inkling of real life experience as most shooters would instantly recognize those as being hot rounds and for the most part, supersonic, though anyone can go online and wiki their little hearts out.

It had them do too much actually! Instant kill at any range and a few shots would destroy vehicles. If you want to change the damage you just change the numbers, there's nothing linked to caliber, it was the ARMA 2 dev's decision to base damage most all damages on muzzle energy.

Really? I remember having to get lots of hits for a kill and vehicle disables were out of the question. Are we even talking about the same rifle?
