Placeholder items and release

Recommended Posts

Beans went from 138px-Canned_Baked_Beans.pngto 68px-Deez_Baked_Beans.jpg

I'd be fine with the new bean cans ("slit your mother's throat" and all) if it was a placeholder. But here's a replacement for a texture we already had, where the old texture fits the setting more. Along with Pipsi, Notacola, Spite, and Tactical Bacon (seriously?), should we expect other "joke" items along the same lines for release or are these just placeholders?

Remember how people were complaining the game wasn't western enough?

I think those complaints had a hand in this. :/

Placeholders? I doubt it, what would be the point of that?

That's why I'm scared. Tone appears to be shifting, Rocket's leaving, and the whole thing is apparently a "flawed concept". Is Tactical Bacon what we have to look forward to?

Do the food names really affect your immersion that much?

Do the food names really affect your immersion that much?

It's more about the direction DayZ is heading. Little things start to add up to show a bigger picture. I was under the impression that DayZ was fairly serious and was trying to be "authentic". If this isn't some sort of tonal shift from serious to funny, is the art team without direction? DayZ isn't doing so hot right now, so if the devs are screwing around I think it's valid to be concerned.

And yes, it does impact immersion. It's one little pin being stuck in the pincushion. After a while it adds up.

I have been asking myself that since the hotfix of the mod.  (What was it? 1.6?)

I was confused why they changed the art of so many things but didn't think much of it.

But maybe there is some conspiracy here we can come up with.

I will note the in-game beans match the forum beans.    :beans:

Hm, I haven't really thought about it quite yet, but you are actually right. The old can fit the setting of the game way better.

Of course it's just a really minor issue, but still  the devil lies in the details.

Why would you even care what they call their food

DayZ isn't doing so hot right now, so if the devs are screwing around I think it's valid to be concerned.

Aside from the devs, I'd care for the same reason I'd care if the guns used the wrong calibre ammo or made the wrong sound, or god-forbid made fart noises when you shot them.

Minor but widespread and consistent, which is the larger issue.

That graph went from an insane hype to a general amount of sales. For a game that's in Alpha...

Not sales, CCU. That's how many people are playing DayZ at any given moment. They've dipped below 50% of their peak. People are leaving DayZ, and quickly. The red lines show updates. We get about 3 a month, and they're usually clustered with a few weeks in between. So far, they've been able to stabilize the CCU drop by adding new things (the one near 1/24 is shotguns), but this last update took a month and a half and was broken upon release to stable. Unrelated to the tone of the game, but still. The dev team doesn't have time to be making little doodles on the map.

You guys can bash the OP all you want, but he speaks the truth. It matters what everything looks/sounds/feels like in this game. The game is about realism and player interaction. How wouldn't the food matter? It's the main goal of the game: finding food.

Which part exactly?

I don't see how It's bullshit. Realism (yea zombies...) and immersion are important parts of the game. And since food is a cenral aspect to your survival and therefore the game, it should increase, and not hinder your immersion.

One or two items like tactical bacon, no probs. But the general eastern europe ambient should be maintained, the new item/textures point into a different direction though. I didn't notice it myself at first, but I think it should not continue this way.

Perhaps they're trying to make up for the killing of these:

No, not really. Really, not really.

I'd care for the same reason I'd care if the guns used the wrong calibre ammo or made the wrong sound

Some of them do both of those things.

Anyways, I don't care about a few silly canned food labels. Even if I did happen to care, there are bigger issues.

And often times I have very little sense of humour when it comes to DayZ. The Wiggles? I have no time for that nonsense. Pantless guy in a cowboy hat? Would KoS. Clown masks? I hate those things. Don't get me started on weapons, if it were my choice I'd remove most of the ones we have.

But the cans... they are cans. I don't really care.

Its a total waste of time complaining about cans cmon - no to mention "what makes immersion for me..." - its completely different for everybody some will be pleased others wont "regardless" of what you do just find something to do for gods sake - posting crap about cans is your choice admittedly so have at it but expect some flaming seriously

hurr durr it's an alpher

I'm not particularly fussed I narrowly avoided starving to death I've only found a pair of cargo pants and haven't even seen a can of anything, not that I've found anything to open it with.  Join me on the survivor coastal challenge, then you won't care if it tactical bacon or picked dicks.

Spawn at Three Valleys, run to the farm, maybe get a weapon and drink up, run up to the yellow house and eat whatever is in it, presto. Healing. What the food item is doesn't matter, though it helps if it fits the game. I'm more concerned that they're adding stuff like that to begin with, and I want to know if that's a trend that's going to survive until release. If it is, should we expect the tone of the game to shift?

Hey don't look at me I just added that so I wouldn't get told off for saying hurr durr alpha like you asked me too......  I see what you did there....

Well played sir.

honestly I don't care and I think there are too many people who like to freak out about something I consider to be nothing.  What does concern me is bigger things like loot balancing and spawning, fixing the amateur "wall hacks" making night playable  because after all said and done I don't care what the can looks like, as long as the contents will keep me alive.
