Would you prefer 2d scopes?

Recommended Posts

Simple topic would you guys prefer 2d scopes with the correct magnification instead of the current 3d scopes that have incorrect magnifications and are affected by the fov settings.

Thanks to orlok for bringing this mod to my attention.

So what do you people think?

Proper magnification values and better performance. Vs prettier graphics with incorrect zoom settings.

I don't like the fov feature very much. Sure, there's a tradeoff but i really think bino's should fill that gap.

Nah, I think that the 3D scope is the way to go. 2D scope for me feels old and lazy.

I don't quite understand the difference.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!

It's worth the hit to performance 100%

I have to say I'm a huge fan of the 3D scope, especially when they're damaged and cracked. Such a nice feature.

Is the magnification not something that can be "fixed"?

I don't quite understand the difference.

Difference is with 3d scopes the screen is rendered 2 times what the scope sees and what the players sees.

In many cases 3ds are done incorrectly as in the case of Arma 3.

This causes a huge cost to performance since everything is rendered twice.

2d scopes are simpler can look just as pretty as 3d scopes and could potentially have the correct zoom variables.

One thing I find about the scopes in general is the way you have to "find" the sights... especially if its somone elses gun and you're not used to the scope.

Picture for example: the "blur" in that scope is what I'm talking about.

3D scopes can have correct magnification, as in ARMA III.

The problem is that your peripheral vision is also zoomed in, but that's no excuse to go and give them incorrect magnifications.

Me, I have no real issues with 2D scopes. I would rather have a correctly magnifying 2D scope than a 3D scope which doesn't do what it's supposed to.

Only game I have ever played that did 3d scopes justice was red Orchestra 2. The optics were faithfully represented..

I like the concept.

However, I'd rather they just improve on their 3D optics than scrap the concept in favor of 2D.

There's nothing inherent to 3D optics that is making them bad, it's just the way that they were executed in this particular instance. All of the "fixes" applied in the 2D mod could theoretically be applied to 3D optics.

/\ That makes me wanna go play some Red Orchestra.

I vote for 3D scopes, just hope the issue can be fixed.

The scopes in the state that they're ingame now are actually just like 2d scopes, as its just a scope image rendered over a zoomed background image.

The only real 3d scopes are the ones in red orchestra 2, we just have prettier 2d scopes in dayz.

No, they are just like the weapon's iron sights, they are an actual 3D model.

The only 2D scope is the long-range scope.

This is why blurring the edges would be much more problematic than with a 2D scope, there's no overlay.

well, they actually have the same exact effect of a 2d scope, as the peripheral vision is zoomed too, so no point in having them in 3d, only for graphical purpose, i guess.

And the scope positioning is awful, it seems that you're holding the acog 30cm in front of your face, when in reality you would see it much bigger.

They just need to limit the minimum and maximum FOV to something more reasonable so that people don't use it to cheat.

Or simply they fix then zoom levels of the scopes so regardless of fov they stay the same for everyone.

I wish the devs could be that competent.

I fixed it for you.

Don't worry, once its moddable a single neckbeard in his basement will produce more content in a week than the entire dev team does in a month.

This needs to be done.

I prefer A3 style scopes over "black box" scopes.
