New Walkie-Talkie uses?

Recommended Posts

I've found the Walkie-Talkie extremely useless, due to 3rd party chat systems. But it bugs me to see something the devs implemented that (almost) no one uses. Any ideas on what would make it more useful? Perhaps you could host a "radio station" that can be picked up through the walkie talkies?

I love the concept of the walkie talkie , my only beef with it is that I hardly hear people talking on it (as you said teamspeak takes the majority) but I would love to see more people use them. A lot of players have wanted to these add radio stations you're talking about , ones you can actually walk in and take over (with no electricity for now until they could work in gas generators or some shit) it would be pretty badass , but who knows If the location calls for it.

But generally the radio station, if added , in my opinion would be more useful as awesome shelter seeing as its basically just a giant walkie talkie that takes a lot of work to power (but would have much more range if you could actually power the antenna and equipment with a gas generator) .

They should make like private channels. Like your friend will give you walkie-talkie and you connect them together. And your chat with your friend would be safe. More walkie-talkie types would be awesome. There are some walkie-talkies that even catch up to 10 km (correct me if i'm wrong). They could be found only in army base.

Assuming walkie-talkie have 2km max radius (need to verify)
Let's imagine an inner radius called "interference noise" (800m radius).

As soon as a Walkie-Talkie interference radius reach an other Walkie-Talkie interference radius ; concerned Walkie-Talkies would both emit a strange sound.
Even if not on the same frequency !!

Sound should be played only once.
To hear it again, both Walkie-Talkies should move away of their max range (just like Picture_1) and then get closer enough again (Picture_2)

So that we won't be annoyed by incessant sound every few footsteps if interference distance is on the edge, and it would not be possible to track the other.
Also it would avoid multiple Walkie-Talkie team mates to interfere within them.

What is the purpose ?
Once you heard that sound, you can be sure the other Walkie-Talkie owner heard it too.
Both know someone with a (turned-on) Walkie-Talkie is somewhere at a distance of 800m.

One could scan and try severals frequencies to search and chat with the other. And this time you could be sure someone will hear you (unless other ran away >200m in straight opposite way, or unless he shut off his walkie-talkie).
But would he reply to your call? ...who knows.

It would be a great part for negociation, or for announcing your coming, or to dissuade some ("stay out of my territory!"), or to set ambush, etc...

I have an idea on a much more practical application of the walkie talkie: you will get a mayday call from a helicopter about to crash then the status indicator will reveal the grid coordinates of the crash?

That is if heli crashes will still be implemented by rocket.

Oh, man! Good times! :)

You really don't have to ask yourself that when you take a look at how many people have been complaining about the desync and bandwidth usage by DayZ. As long as that's not sorted out there's nothing that can be done to implement anything like that.

it would be good if the WT could show the rough direction chatter is coming from.

positive side is you could find your mates easier...

negative side is those wanting to kill you can also track you..

It would certainly increase strategic play

Because every radio has a built in directional compass that points to other users and allows you to GPS track targets.  Oh, and it has a can opener.  Keep the radio a radio.  It has a purpose and it functions for that purpose.  Somebody a while back suggested connecting a radio to radio towers for boosted range.  That doesn't modify the radio, but allows it to do something new.  Think along those lines... please.
