Arma 3 like grouping system

Recommended Posts

What i would love to have is be able to scroll while pointing at a player and add that player as a friend like you can on Arma 3 Breaking Point, if you do not quite understand what i mean go to this video and go to 15:58 or 5:00 and check the icon his friend got.

Just one word: unrealistic. It's better that you need to identify your friends/enemies.

This will never be implemented. Why don't you just learn what your friends are wearing and then you don't need ridiculous floating name tags or notifiers. If you can't keep track of what you and other people are wearing in a firefight then you will have "blue on blue", and that's exactly how it should be.

I aprove of this idea,but....if you look closely at 5:02 his friend gets into a hangar.

He cannot see his friend in his line of vision, yet he can see his friend icon/sumbol moving and know his friend position

bu deafult. That is highly unrealistic. If that was to be fixed though,it would make a fine addition into the DayZ world.

I just started ARMA 3 and Breaking Point, and dont really know what Im doing yet, so I liked being able to join their buddy system at the beginning of play and teaming up with someone automatically, but it is deinfitely far from realistic.

Decent idea for newbie servers or something. Great way to get into contact with other players, the game is not meant to be played alone. Still you lose immersion and realness.

When all the player models look the same, accident like killing your friend

happens alot ingame. Now realisticly speaking you should be able to tell freind or foe

from facial feature/bodytype etc.But that's not the case in this game.So i think it would prove usefull to the community.

I have never seen two people wearing the exact same clothing.

Yeah, should clothing alone be the deciding factor?

Besides, clothing is limited, maybe they are not the same, but some will look alike.

Edit:You are having a large firefight of 30vs30 people.

Are you going to take note of all the thirty people in your group

simply by clothing, without causing a large confusion?

I would think seeing the color of someones shirt would be easier then picking out facial features... I don't think character customization will make any sort of difference in the heat of battle.

That's why we could use a system like breaking point, but only if it was realistic

and not having omniescence and see the exact position of your friends behind obstacles, without beign in your line of sight.

You joined the buddy system? How did the first meeting with your "buddy" go?

it would be too easy. if you dont have grouping system you have info everything you do thats nature of dayz and nature of teamwork

Soon we will be able to spray paint rags and tie them around our arms and match colors with our team mates.

Or something similar to this. I heard Dean talk about it in a stream I saw a while back.

no, this would remove the challenge of recognizing friends or other people.

in Real life you can't have a marker over your friends so: Nope!

Go for recognizable look and pay attention. our group has a rule: Mask, gasmask, safety helmet and motorcycle helmets = Not friendly, that will help in lot of cases

I remember rocket saying on a steam that they where going to leave the grouping system down to modders.

Any feature that the devs dont implement will more than likely become a mod if enough people want it.

Ya I'm kind of surprised that breaking point has buddy systems , seeing as its not only a mod on a military simulator which just screams of teamwork , it also is still breaking point , which if i remember correctly from the mod there were no "group markers" so it's weird that they decided to add it.

I guess it's all the people who want an easier experience trying to tell friends from enemies but like people have said dayz is all about survival first of all but second and third of all it's about trust and teamwork . If you don't have good constant communication with your teammates then you're bound to run into trouble (we already have third party applications that essentially make teamwork easier if your communicating).

So it will only help you if you get used to knowing where your teammates are at all times , and besides in real life in a heated firefight in which regular survivors are the participants ,when the adrenaline is rushing it's easy to make a shot at the wrong person if you're all scattered about ..

All that being said , I feel like we should just wait for beta or full release and the people that just MUST have this simply because Breaking Point has it (lol) will be able to set it as an option when private hives come out .

The only reason i think this is a good idea is because of the lack of different types of clothing items and customization.  Don't get me wrong, for a game, there are TONS of clothing items, but in the real world, you hardly even see people wear the same things.  Its easier to identify who is who because no one looks the same.  They may add in more clothing items and customization options for the players looks, but most people will still look similar.  For this reason, I think grouping like ArmA 3 should be allowed.  When your running with a geared group and half of the group looks the same, it becomes difficult to know immediately if you know that person or not.  Think about it, when you have 4 options for looks per gender and most geared people are wearing basically the same clothes, if another geared person shows up, it's easy to mistake them for your friends.

You can argue realism all you want, realistically no one looks exactly the same....but they do in DayZ, and they will continue to.

that would be cool, but thats the best way to carry the most stuff....so right now its what everyone goes for.

I think once more clothing options become available (honestly I'd be perfectly happy with a dozen or so retextures of each of the current clothing items, at least for the time being) then identifying friends shouldn't be so much of a problem.

Also beards.
