Would You Balance The M4 and How / Bow and Arrow Discussion?

Recommended Posts

ugh, bow and arrow is going to be weak, especially the people who will go nuts and form cowboys and indians rp clans...

god no, i can see it now....

horses...

so many horses....

I can see bows as being a useful tool when hunting or to take out the occasional zombie. They're practically silent and a broadhead arrow to the chest/heart area will cause a typical cowboy to bleed out within a few seconds.

Lol its hilarious because it's probably true. If not a bow and arrow it's something else that is incredibly stupid like leg warmers.

I know they have the technological knowhow, they can easily add all of the ace enhancements that have improved Arma.

Heck even if they merely stole the bipod and weapon deployment mechanics from ace mod I would he satisfied. The current shooting mechanics and bipod mechanics in dayz are so mind numbingly stupid and clumsy.

this thread is now about bow and arrows!!!

I just felt the need to correct a few things:

1) Yes, it has promise as a weapon, so long as the weapon is very specialized, and is realistically difficult to use. No modern compound bows here! It should have a range of 40-50 meters, tops!

2) It depends, really. I own a hunting broadhead that has razorblades that can open up to 2-3 inches wide. If I tag you with it, you will definitely feel it. Plus, by the virtue of it remaining in the body, should make things all sorts of unpleasant.

3) Definitely. I agree. I made a Welsh-style longbow (self style) out of birch. It took me over a year to find the right branch, to dry it out, to carve/sand it down, and get it all balanced.

why are you calling out cod when you play CS

dear god

CS used to be legit (2001), now it is COD on crack

Bah. I dare you to give a cod player a go at counter strike and he'll fail and completely mess up his team. Give a counter strike player a go at cod, and he won't do much damage at all to his team even if he goes 1:3 ratiowise. Anyway, I say cod sucks because it is an individual game. CS is a very team based game, much like team fortress 2. It also has "Death for the whole round" systems, unlike COD's "Respawn in 2 seconds" system.

the trick to CS, unfortunately, is getting good at cqb, or getting good at LRC.

on high/full/clan servers a round will be over in a minute, maybe two. (CSS and below here)

everyone knows everything and there are so few CRAZY VARIABLES and with perma death no respawn it's not easier, just slower, and more meothodical in its nessisary complexity.

edit: i would say neither cod or cs or bf are comparible because they are so radically different in design and execution even though they are fps deathmatches

CS is the most tactical, and legit, but limited

Cod the most "streamlined and flowing/fast"

battlefield the most variable and well rounded but suffering from the flaws of COD and CS

Battlefield is on life support right now. It is ready to go under because of the community around it just like COD did.

the m4 could be more moddable, i'd like a return of the GL/underslung rail attachments

i play BF4 beacause my friend bought be a copy for PC and i play it occasionally

there is a bit of a cash grab for the premium/dlc content

and the play is repetitive and annoying at times

i consider it decent and fun and would play another in the series, depending on how much the next in the series improves.

there are alot of things i dont like about bf series, but i might get another, i wont ever get another COD for it's Mp

it's a shame beacuse zombies is fun

should be its own series so i dont have to play the other stuff packaged with it

Those zombies from WoW and BO1 were the best.

I feel that the M4 doesn't need its damage increased

In that case they have to take the damage of the FNX and shotgun pellets down several notches... 5.56x45mm SS109 >>>>> .45 ACP FMJ, and the pellets have obviously zany values...

IMO the M4 needs more damage. The SKS too.

As an archer I wonder why would a bow have a range of 40-50 meters tops.

Also a Welsh-style longbow would be made out of yew. Just saying :)

Because we're not all archers, so we would not effectively know how to use one. You guys already try to simulate lack of skill with firearms with the stupid cone of fire shenanigans, so something gamey like this seems right up your alley.

So basically you just said that because we adjusted the accuracy of one weapon we would adjust the range of another? I don't follow that logic.

I do realize you're trolling, I just wanted to point out how poor an attempt that was.

There would be little to no difference in range based on the skill of the archer (i.e. anyone can draw a bow and release it). Accuracy on the other hand would most definitely be bound to the skill of the archer. Even more so than with firearms in my opinion.

Bows are hard to aim. Accuracy would depend on the individual's skill and practice with said bow. Range would depend on the strength of the archer and the pull weight, flexibility and sturdiness of the bow.

This being said, the devs should not hand out accuracy of a bow on a silver platter. I can imagine a physical strength system that effects range and accuracy. Not to mention how the wind would effect the arrow you fire.

An arrow can go several hundred yards, effective range is of course much lower, so I assume that's what he means... depends on how one defines effective range: Ethical hunting? Quite short. Man-sized target? Longer. Volley fire into enemy ranks? Etc.

the bow should drain stamina/energy/whatever

also not useable at all with serious arm injury

both bow and quiver are made by player only

arrows retrieveable but have chance to break

arrows are weak melee weapons if held

steel arrows as loot and do more damage and have longer range

steel arrows always retrieveable

composite hunting bows/crossbows as ultra rare weapons in residential areas

long bow and short bow variants with player made bows

imagine a dayz where you could craft a steel arrow hook out of scrap metal, a steel arrow and a hammer and pliers.

you then attach rope to that arrow and you have a rope arrow.

it takes up two inventory slots and is manually loaded into the bow.

the arrow is fired and sticks into an appropriate surface.

now you can scale buildings and cross rooftops!

*coming to dayz... maybe?*

lol, no

but i can dream!
