Tell us why we died

Recommended Posts

Suggestion: Tell us how we died.

Any logic behind no indication of what killed us?

if i got shot in real life, I would be cognizant of the incredible pain bursting through my head/heart/stomach.

If a zombie bit me to death, I would know why I was dying.

If I got hit by a bus, trapped in a fire, drowned… I would KNOW what killed me.

Why is there no such thing in DayZ? From an immersion stand point, for the reasons I've already pointed out there  is no reason not to tell me how I had died.

It doesn't have to be much. Don't tell me the players name, just tell me

"You Are Dead. You were shot in the back."

or "You are Dead. You died of starvation/sickness/illness/heart attack"

whatever.

Some reasons why I have heard this is not currently implemented, are ARMA II doesn't support it.

What a shitty reason.

You get shock effects, screen effects/blur/colour changes or bleed out, also make noises and notification on left bottom due to hunger/dehydration. Also tab tells you that you are going to die and possibly why.

Depends on circumstances, you not gonna always know What just happened or Why, if it's instant incident.

But mainly I don't learn anything when the "You Are Dead" screen pops up. Bug?Sniper?

Disagree. This is not Battlefield of Call of Duty where you can see who killed you with what weapon. The point of OFP/Arma/DayZ is to be at some extent realistic, and as Prime said there are some effects that can help you know what is going on.

If you get shot fatally in the spinal cord, head, heart ... etc then you're pretty much dead and probably didn't have time to figure out where you got shot from.

i think it should be put in as simple as ugly put it

"you died by a shot to the head"

thats all no name or where they were at the time or what they ate for lunch

for me its just better than "you are dead"

I agree and to even further the simplicity of it, dont even say the word "shot".

Could be like,

You are dead.  A fatal blow to your head.

Could have been fists or a mosin...

To be honest, your logic kinda sucks. In reality, you can't figure out how you died if you didn't know when you were alive. LOL

Ok, and how many times have you died irl?

How do you know that before you die your brain would have time to process the reason why, and be able to transform those signals into the conscious thought of how you died.

If a zombie is attacking and you die, well the zombie probably killed you.

If you are sick and die, it was probably from sickness.

If you fall and die, it was probably the fall.

If you here a shot and died, you were probably shot.

If you randomly die, it was probably a glitch.

Why doesn't matter, your new start is a new character and you shouldn't have any extra knowledge because you already have more knowledge than you should.  If anything you should be put onto a new server so that you have no idea of what is going on in the world.

Even if they don't leave it in the game permanently, I think for Alpha and Beta testing, it should be there. Give players as much info as you can for reporting bugs. Many people take it seriously and will spend quite a bit of time tracking down issues that the developers may have trouble doing alone.

I don't agree with this suggestion.  If you pay attention to your health status, you'll know why you died if you starve or get sick.  If you get headshot from a sniper, you wouldn't know in real life what happened, either.  There's no need for a message to tell you why you died.

I support this but only to a certain degree.

It should tell you what part/s of your body failed at the endgame screen causing you to die, but not tell you the cause of those body parts failing. For instance "you died from blood loss" or "you died from starvation" or "you died from a severed brain cord"

AS OPPOSED TO

"you were killed by a zombie bite"

"You were killed by a Mosin Nagant bullet from 240ft by xXsuxcockxbadassSnIpEr!69Xx"

if you see what kills you, you know, if you don't see what kills you , you dont know. its so basic , as i understand it,

magically knowing what killed you, when you are already dead? you think that increases inmersion? i would be dissapointed if they started showing messages that explain what killed you, i really hope that it doesnt happen.

I'll tell you. If you die right away, you got shot. If you go unconcious after your screen slowly loses color, you're dying of thirst or hunger. If you are stupid enough to get about 50 shock notifications, you got killed by a zed. If you scream, then die, you fell to your death. If you randomly die ---> #Alpha

"HEADSHOT"
epic unreal tournament indication!

if you are the only one who sees it, why not something like
"you died instantly through a projectile into your heart"
"you dehydrated through too much alkohol to death"
"you poisened your brain through too much alkohol to death"
"you drank too much alkohol, so your stomach leaked and you bled to death"

yes, I have a drinking problem ;)

If you die in real life, you're dead. You know fuck all.

Anyway, an observant player can usually tell how they died. If you don't notice the zombie munching on your face, or the message telling you that you're starving to death (and the screen desaturation), then it's your own fault when you die, and you should know how it happened. If you hear a bullet crack right before you die, you  were clearly shot. Equally, if you were in a firefight with some guy and ate his bullets, it should be obvious how it happened.

As somebody said above, you are dead because you fucked up. The message that you're dead is enough. Just respawn, start again, and deal with it.

You think that every little thing is going to take away from your immersion.

Honestly,i'm getting preety fed up with it.

We have hackers now, that the game is still in so early stages....just imagine

when the game launches and we get the final stable version, hackers are going to

literally swarm every server. Not having a way to know who killed you (complete anonimity)

is going to fuck this game up.

Now i expect to see answers to my statement like : No,it's not going to be that way or PB is the world's

greatest anti-cheat engine (hahaha).Call me a doomsday's-man if you may,but you know that this will be

a great issue in the future.

So yes i want to be able to know:How i died-and what or who to blame for.

Read the OP next time, nobody has been asking to know who killed them or from where. People just want to know what killed them and draw their own conclusions on how to better themselves.

I am completely against any sort of messaging. Dev money and time would be better used to do a proper sound system, a proper visual system, etc

Hearing heartbeat, tunnel vision, blur effects ( that cannot be fixed ! ). Well, yeah, we have enough game engine in 2014 to do that, This is not 2009 anymore.

Summing it up to the OP... If you don't know how you died, pay attention next time. Sometimes we are shot without even hearing the shot. Other we just bleed to death because we just can't bandage safely in time. Other we glitch a ladder or a building.

How does a message about cause of death improve the experience ?

Plus you already have all messages about your condition including bleeding and the shock effect.
