Authentification Timeout (Steam Down ?)

Cant play since every 2 minutes ingame that msg is kicking me from the game..

Yeah steam is fucked atm, my whole crew has been getting it in waves today. a couple at a time, random length of time that they are unable to log in.

most likely, I had this problem a while back only to discover that my steam was running in offline mode - I had to reinstall steam to get it back online and haven't had any problems since. good luck

 

edit: I just checked my steam and it is offline too... gotta love it

Yeah - I was about to post about this too, glad I found this thread first. So - you can't play DayZ if steam is down?

 

I also updated the bug ticket about this with whatever information I could find. Steam is going down like a high school prom date today...

So here's an oddball question - if Steam is down DayZ is also down? Or? I'm able to log in for about a minute or 2, and it appears as though I see a few people popping onto the server I'm no then disappearing - I'm assuming they're all getting the Authentication Timeout issue. Are DayZ login and Steam login tightly coupled?

Are DayZ login and Steam login tightly coupled?

 

DayZ uses Steam's VAC as well as Battleye for anti-cheat. I could be wrong about this but I also think the server browser is done via Steam.

I think they aren't coupled, but for me no servers are poppin up and when I join some from "History" i get to "Wait for host" (0.42xx exp branch)

In case anyone is still questioning if steam and Day Z servers are coupled, here's some proof. I went to my history tab, just check out the player count in these otherwise mid-high pop servers.
