Dayz - In real life (how would you act)

Recommended Posts

How would I act. I... Would die from the prion virus. I would be part of the percent of the population that got decimated by the virus. I don't think I would even turn into a zombie or be part of the 2% of the population that are immune.

I would definitely walk down the main street of the nearest large city with only my underwear and a cowboy hat on, holding a large cooking pot with a radio blasting as loud as I can get it to, "She works hard for the money" and other great songs from the 80's..

Sorry these just seemed most appropriate XD

Those are most appropriate, but the humor would be best I feel with songs like:

I wish I knew why people rush to reply without even reading the OP, where it states you can only use things currently in DayZ.

That said I don't think it would be very long before I decided the guy on page one had a good idea, with regards to jumping off something really high.

Not sure but i recently got a new hiking backpack and im getting a combat knife that can be used to chop wood http://www.topsknives.com/product_info.php?cPath=3&products_id=138

But food would not be to hard to find since i live in the suburbs. It would depend on how many ppl are infected and how many ppl got to places like Walmarts next door to me before shit hit the fan. I actually might still get a tactical tomahawk for breaching doors and crap like that if i have to but im quite well stocked on clothing and warm cloths.

You can get a much better knife, from an accredited company, for $60 - $100. Just buy a KABAR. Same steel, half the weight ( in knives, a high weight suggests that it is a POS, due to ornamentation hiding obvious faults), full tang with a sold buttcap, Kraton non-slip handle, and MOLLE-compatible sheath.

Plus, I tend to not trust anything labelled SHESHUL OPS. Tacticool is bad in my book.

Yeah, I don't think people understand just what a total collapse of society implies exactly. Wilderness survival, both long and short term, sucks massive donkey cock. There is a reason we banded into communities and developed modern technology...

I have had this bad boy for seven years now, and have done a lot of things to it. Hasn't broken on me yet.

Also, you just made me cry. Never NEVER EVER chop wood with a knife. The reason knives break is because people use them for things they were not made to do. A knife is made to cut, an axe is made to chop. You "can" split wood using a knife, but only in a prescribed fashion, and very carefully.

TL:DR You need to cut/stab something? Use a knife. Need to chop/split/smash something? Use an axe/hatchet.

I HATE the willful, ignorant misuse of a tool.

Back on topic:

How many people on this board have actual experience in wilderness survival/bushcraft? That is, spent more than 2 weeks in the woods, living out of your pack and off of what you can find. I am discounting camping and backpacking, as you depend on an outside source for food and gear resupply.

It isn't as easy as many apparently think it is.

Well its built for as a multi purpose tool besides killing ppl. I mean i still probably will get a KBAR i just has to be the right design for me to really want to shell the money out for one. Plus no body is going to fuck with you if you have an 8 inch blade unless its an invading foreign land or some one that REALLY is messed up in the head or has a gun.

Nether is any other melee to be honest. It all depends on how the person handles the weapon that determines how scary the weapon in hand can be. Hell even a fucking spoon can be a weapon if you knew how to use it right.

It is the function inherent with the design that makes knives less effective at chopping tasks. For the same energy expenditure, you could use a hatchet and get 5X the work out of it.

Plus, unless you are trained in knife CQC, which heavily involves grappling, you aren't going to win any knife fights. Use a hammer or a club instead.

i have and i really hope i never have to do it for real.

Yeah, i've subjected myself to a 3 week stay in the Maine woods, called the 100 Mile Wilderness, as a personal character-building exercise. I hope I never have to do that for real, because that was literally the hardest thing I've ever done. I am pretty sure I went insane for a few days, because I lost track of a couple of days in the middle of the expedition, and I can't recall exactly what happened....

i did my wilderness survival training in the PA wilds, then got to do a couple weeks in the back country of New Mexico. PA was easy, partially because thats where im from, but New Mexico was a bit scary because resources are not nearly as plentiful and there is a lot more dangerous wildlife in NM.

This is a scenario thread. Meaning that we talk and discuss reality based choices and give our oppinion on our survival strategy and such if dayz was real and we where there trying to survive.

Scenario:

What has happened in the Dayz game is a reality. your character is you and you only have 1 life, there is no (TRY AGAIN)

Your story: (same story for everyone)

You know what have happened, you know there are zombies and you seek help from the authority, and with a big group you get on a massive boat to get away from it all to be safe at sea. while waiting for the military to decontaminate the area. (cleaning it out of zombies etc) However the captain loses contact with the authority and the radar and other electronics stop to work on the ship. it hits a reef and sinks. everyone drown becide you. you now swim to the nearest beach and start your journey.

1 Rule:

- you can only find Dayz items, objects, houses etc.

What i would do:

I would look for the nearest House, to look for: (The one on top is highest priority)

- Weapon of some sort and if it is a gun i would look for ammo aswell.

- Water/Drinks like pepsi etc.

- Food

- Clothes

- Backpack

Priority is a weapon due to zombies. nothing will kill you as fast as zombies, even tho hypothermia, thirst and hunger are an issue, the zombies will kill you faster than any of them. even in worst condition, a zombie near you will most likely kill you faster than that condition, unless it is a gunshot wound or broken neck.

then it all depends on how much there is in that house. if it is pretty empty, or if i have ran out of supply of food and water then i would search any nearby houses aswell. I would also try to locate myself by finding a map and or compass. By knowing where you are you can pinpoint where you have been, where you are going and where it is not worth going.

i would also try to settle in the same place as much as possible, i rather stay in a house and barricade myself so i can make plans of what to do. There is nothing worst than rushing and doing things without properly thinking about what to do.

if i where to stay in one house i would loot anything arround the area if it is a village for example and stack up the house im currently staying in.

I would also write down how much food and water im consuming so i know when to leave and how long i can stay in that one area. But you will sooner or later have to move on because you have used up all the supplies in the area. So i would stay in a area untill there is no supply left and then move on. Moving from place to place, but slowly.

If i had a Firearm i would most likely Avoid firing at all costs, unless its absolutely neccesary. it will attract zombies and possible people, and you dont know if they all are friendly.

- They are scared and probably tired and has a unsable psyche.

- They are trying to survive. Perhaps at all cost. They might do things by rushing decisions

- People are hard to predict during a disaster, and even drunk people can hurt people, and even

if they are not provoked they can still be threatful and angry. Imagine that there is a big dissaster

and their trying to survive in a world where zombies try to kill them. theres probably not going to be any new delivery of food or other products into the country so whats in it is all there is and you dont know how many survivors that are slowly emptying the country of supply. At least all supplys that can run out.

Not sure what else to type. i probably didnt get everything but its basically it i think. Might edit this post in the future, but i will see.

What would you do ?

What you wrote here is exactly what the devs had in mind when making this game, unfortunately this game is becoming just another pvp shooter. Hopefully changes once it's finished.

Honestly I have no idea how I would go in real life, as I have two little kids.

The sad thing is that some people seem to think that things would work out in RL like they do in a vidya-game.

I've seen this argument in quite a lot of threads where people claim "people just would turn full violent" (hence DayZ would be totally realistic) and  would shoot each other on sight in order to survive instead of banding together as everyone would come from different professions and could add different abilities to the group everyone could benefit from (medics, engineers, military personal, teachers, nurses, hunters, farmers, etc).

Some point everyone seem to totally ignore simply is: social interaction.

I wonder how long a human being would be able to stay mentally sane without having anyone around to trust and talk to, to share stories with and chitchat about better times.

I'm not talking about some hiking trip in your holidays to get away from stressfull daily routine for a given timeframe. I'm talking about the end of the world knowing that you won't return to your house, friends and family, fridge, smartphone, radio,TV and PC  in 2-3 weeks.
