Why is hardcore so underpopulated?

Recommended Posts

meh..

3pp..run around mega stupid kill everything char for me

1pp ..serious dude.

I have always found 1st easier for getting around in buildings and doorways etc, i find the 3pp cam view fucking terrible :)  same as with driving games..i don't know how people can get a decent experience out of driving a pixel car from their rear wing.

We jumped on a reg experimental last night and ended up in 1pp mode anyway as the 3pp just feels shoddy and less immersive,

Different strokes, different folks.

I was a strong proponent of first-person only. But now that 3PP is in the game, I just can't resist. I first started out with 3PP towards the end of my time playing WarZ. In WarZ you could actually shift your camera to the left or right of your character. There was no middle camera perspective. This gave you such a drastic advantage, that to not use it was to commit suicide. WarZ had nothing like hard core servers. I jumped into SA playing 3PP out of habit, and I never stopped. Maybe tonight I'll give it a shot. Things have gotten pretty boring recently.

Give it a few attempts if it comes off as a bit weird at first, my mate was all about 3pp when he started and after much coddling and whispering sweet words in his ear over ts he finally relented and 1pp'd up. Took him a bit to get used to as he also gets a bit freaky/dizzy in 1pp after a while (headbob sorted that) He absolutely loves it now and hates when i suggest a raid on the 3pp servers for some stupidness :D

Because first person plays like shit.

Also, saying that every person on regular servers uses 3pp to look over walls is moronic. Not everybody is a douche.

how naive are u ????

players will use every advantage they can get their hands on !

first person is ten times scaryer then the 3rd person crap

when i want 3rd person i play tombraider .

i agree, but my point was that generally people tend to like to be babysat in games, i'm sure there's lots of people who wish that there weren't hunger mechanics or zombies in dayZ. look at the mod. it started off as a difficult survival game, then it ended up as this absolute mess with thousands of vehicles which players could find within 2 minutes and there were even extra barracks all over the coast. these servers were by a mile the most played servers in the mod. that was my point, i was just using dark souls and skyrim as examples because they're generally similar games.

Given the work it can take for a solo or a small group in Epoch to set up a base and defend it, I wouldn't say that those mods are "easier." Or take Namalsk, where the map is cold enough that you have to work to keep yourself warm, and thus alive. Or the EMP storms that kill you of you aren't indoors. Or even consider the base mod compared to base Arma 2. The mod is by far much more popular, and in Arma 2 there are weapons and tanks just everywhere!

There's a lot more at play than difficulty, and even considering this, while there are more vehicles and more weapons in a lot of the mods, it's balanced out with the more frequent combat going on, and people tend to enjoy that.

Another one of these lol....

Simply put....most players don't need a safety blanket to keep the peekers at bay....so they are happy to play with 3pp on :P

PS Even if you play 3rd on for whatever reason....I strongly advise using 1st for your combat encounters. Its soooo much more accurate than that 3rd crosshair....especially up close :)

The safety net is the 3rd person. you got it backwards.

Because of if 3PP is like a free wall hack then Hardcore is like playing with blinders and a lobotomy.

Hardcore is less interesting and prone to just being a bunch of jerks. I have met all of 2 players who weren't there just to shoot people on the ARC hardcore server.  It is fun for what it is, but the lack of variety in player encounters makes it boring.

Dyslexia?

Meh. I find in 3pp enabled servers 80% of the population is in elektro or cherno laying on a roof in third person. In hardcore those cities are less populated because it isnt nearly as easy to camp. 3pp enabled servers encourage camping inside buildings. While first person only servers encourage treeline sniping. I prefer the latter because its easy to sneak up on those people while those who camp inside buildings with 3pp are nearly impossible to get.

If there was ever a crutch it's 3PP:On..

Nothing beats crawling within 5 feet of someone or having someone run past you while your laying in the grass and have them damn near step on you. That's what 3PP:off is all about. Tactics and stealth.

When I want to play it easy and fuck about it's 3PP:On all day. Why not? I don't even need half the skill to play. No tactic is gonna stop a corner looker so I just run around full sprint like everyone else. Easy mode...

I have yet to ever run into a pubescent child on HC in 243 hours but on 3PP they are every 3rd player...

Seems that the 1PP tunnel vision preference of some folk translates to their way of thinking

Push alt and expand your reasoning.... :P

That and the only difference is the height and you have a FOV setting in the video settings if that's not enough..

I used to have this criticism of 1PP until I figured out which setting on the FOV slider gives the appropriate ratio.

For those who don't know and would like to, it's dead centre (two clicks right of default on the arrows).

For me it's the one that lines the bar up with the "f" in "Field of view".

Sometimes I switch it up 1 click either way, but for the most part that's what I feel gives me the best balance between periphery and clarity over distance. :)

It's actually quite easy the reason hardcore servers are so unpopulated at the moment, ppl that play hardcore are waiting till the game is close to finish. Most "hardcore" players have played the mod, they played in the beginning of the SA but realised right now it's not really worth it. Also Like someone said before these new players are just getting use to the game and I'm sure soon enough will see a big player count transition to hardcore.

Oh yes Rocket's BS claim of making sure the 3rd person was looked at and it's exactly the same. Unfortunately, until they optimise or I get a better rig, my FPS is that low it makes me feel ill after a while and 3rd person somehow eliminates this for me. Once my FPS issue is fixed, then it will be HC all the way but it's nice being able to cheat along with everyone else right now.

To people who say they don't want a military sim, since when, in any history of any universe has First Person EVER been the remit of military sims only? So I guess COD is a military sim

I've stayed away from this thread as I've actually been given a temporary ban for suggesting people playing lamecore are lesser players with significant personality issues and questionable hygiene regimes. That's clearly not true and I would like to point out that if anyone was insulted or offended by that suggestion that it was said in jest.

Instead I'll just point out those playing lamecore are just not good enough to play hardcore, this is backed up by the lack of players on hardcore servers. If hardcore was easier then more people would play it. Ipso facto, my friends.

I just play on 1st person because I use 1st person and don't want a guy peeking round a corner.

regular = call of duty kids who run around shooting everything they see

hardcore = real players, less server hoppers, less hackers and more immersful gameplay and other players seem to be more friendly and true banidts

Think you got that backwards.

Hardcore=Call of Duty kids who want to shoot everything they see

Regular=WoW players who want to play it as an MMORPG

the fact that there's more killing (effectively deathmatching) is due to the players not caring at all about their in-game character. if they had lived for a few days on that character they would want to keep it alive, whereas on these servers with a bajillion vehicles they don't need to worry or stress over the fact that they might lose their items, as they can just regain them within 3 minutes of respawning. generally the audience that has been attracted by these 'let's play's etc wants to play a consistently exciting game, not run around for 20 minutes only to get shot. that's why those servers were far more popular than normal ones.

I don't see the smaller HC playerbase as bad thing. HC is a filter that keeps the majority of kids and casual shitters out of the HC experience. HC has it's own assholes and clowns but at least the playing field is even.

Despite the small change, Normal and HC are very different. The entire pace of the game is slower because players have to be more cautious of the environment and surroundings since they can no longer magically see over every object. This lack of information or fog of war that 1PP creates completely changes the pace. Players have to look around and listen for that awareness.

PvP and the behaviour of players changes drastically between the two since the combat is actually balanced in 1PP. Stealth and flanking also a viable option in HC, something that rarely works in normal because of the unnaturally increased spacial awareness 3PP gives the player.

It basically comes down to this:

If you want a easy experience, but the camera perspective rather than sight/sound/skill is the main decider of the outcome of a fight then pick normal mode.

If you want a game with balanced PvP with skill and experience being the decider if you live or die then pick Hardcore.

Also just to clarify that statement as it will annoy some because it implies that lesser skill players play normal mode. Skilled players do play normal mode but my point is that the camera perspective will have the greatest influence over outcomes rather than individual skill of players and will continue to do so until 3PP is reworked and balanced.

So you're saying we have to wallow in our brilliance only because we're so good hardly anyone else can play with us?

It's actually the opposite. Most players find hardcore easy, and graduate on to 3PP. Those of you stuck there are still in need of practice.

Logic at work, my friend.
