Do helmets actually do anything?

Recommended Posts

Do they actual prevent/absorb/deflect damage -or are they purely cosmetic?

Aslo, if they do: how does the chopper pilots helmet fare compared to the infantry 'lid'

-thanks

As far as I know the only helmet that works is the motor bike helmet

I saw someone take a bullet to the head and get up and run away once with one on.

They absorb at least one bullet. I posted in another thread some tests conducted by me and my son. I am too lazy to find the thread now, however. Feel free to sift through the general garbage that constitute my posts.

We only tested the ballistic helmet out. One M4A1 bullet to the head, his screen goes grey, he doesn't lose blood or healthy status, his helmet goes from pristine to ruined. I will take a look at the motorcycle helmet tonight. I'm pretty sure they only protect against blunt attacks, though.

-Thanks, I tried looking but could only browse your last 5 posts/threads... unless Im missing something?

What I really want to know is if theres much difference between the Motorcycle lid and the ballistic one? I know its shallow, but the motorcycle helmet looks pretty cool with the gasmask poking out through the front of it

I was wearing a ballistic helmet when I was shot in the head by some prick with a mosin. I didn't knock out, and I ran away, but my helmet was ruined. It only lasts one bullet.

Dont bother, I've done this already.

Moto Helmet will stop/reflect a single handgun bullet, but not Rifle bullets.

That said.

The helmet saving your life is HIGHLY dependant on the condition of the helmet (also tested extensively)

ANY helmet that is not pristine = death.

The ballistic at worn status will knock you out semi-permanently. After 30 minutes the testdummy still couldnt wake up. But wasn't dead.

I would imagine some medical assistance wouldve had him up and about again, but will probably eventually bleed out with 0 assistance.

One thing that must be noted.

Moto helmets are the only ones that will protect you from melee headshot knockouts, most notably fists.

Going to hunt/help bambis? Wear moto helmet!

The Ballistic Helmet has saved my life on one occasion.

I was rollin' in Berezino with my friends when we started taking some fire around the industrial area. We all moved inside into cover, but not before my friend got clipped in the leg. He's got low blood, so we hunker down on the first floor and patch him up. Meanwhile, myself and another guy move up a few floors to the top. We're taking fire the whole way. Suddenly, my guy grunts and I sort of jerk to the side, and I get dropped to the ground. I'm laying unconscious, but my friend still has the option to administer medical supplies. He can't, because at this point there are multiple unconnected shooters all firing on each other around the Berezino Industrial. He proceeds to take out one, and I revive on my own, Shirts and pants Badly Damaged, and my helmet ruined. So, I attribute my helmet to my life, and That is why while my friends run around in berets and sunglasses to look badass, I always wear a helmet when I can get one.

What happens if you get shot in the face or the base of the neck? Does the helmet still protect you, or does the hitbox extend over your whole head?

Fill your inventory with ballistic helmets, you can take lots of bullets. I placed two on my guy in my inventory and wore one, had my buddy headshot me, I survived 4 shots.

That sounds about right, good for zombies, i got hit by a few and didn't bleed. later i noticed  my helmet no longer the shiny pristine thing it once was, it was ruined.

Play would be to strong a word he is to young to understand anything other than the sounds it makes when he left clicks the mouse makes a noise he finds funny ( that and the anguished scream of me when he shot me made him laugh to but then he likes to pull the hair out on my arms and laugh to )

He was sitting on his mums lap having a go to him there was no difference to that and the bright coloured animal game he tries where you click on the animals and they make there sounds ( ya know click on the cow it goes mooooo....

Pristine ballistic or motorbike helmet will save your life when you get head shot. You go unconscious for a sec and then you wake up.  Im not sure about pilot helmet but I think it will work the same.
