ozvooky 3 Posted February 14, 2014 Hey guys, Ive played Day Z standalone with my friends for a while now on some servers and we all experienced some really annoying things. 1. Ingame Mini Map: This will be extremely helpful! Its extremely important to know where you are in the game so you can try to find a shopping mall or whatever, and finding a map is very difficult. Also, when I try to find my friends, it takes up to an hour as we have no idea where we are. Also, friends that are in the same server as you should be highlighted on the map. 2. Teleportation to friends. It takes so long to find your friends in the game! You should be able to TP to them with a command, but they have to be in the same server as you. Also, there will be a 5 minute cooldown and you have to wait 15 seconds after you enter the command to actually teleport. Also, if someone is near you, you will be unable to teleport. This will prevent people TPing to their friends if theyre about to die. So what are your guys' thoughts on this? I think they will be extremely helpful and yea -Ozvooky :)

Hethwill_Khan 233 Posted February 14, 2014 You must be trolling with No 2. Prove me wrong please because this idea seems particularly ridiculous. Subscribed, and let me add number 1 as well. Orientation is a skill. And the engine renders terrain so beautifully that reading it with a map in hand is a joy.

ozvooky 3 Posted February 14, 2014 Ok guys, so I take it you dont like the ideas :S But I think that a minimap would be really helpful, I am never able to find a map in-game which really annoys me.

True that, not than common to find. Maybe the Tourist maps spawn rate should be increased ? Also you can make use of DayZ Central ( google it ). Nifty phone/tablet tool with the map. But you still have to read the landscape.
DemonGroover 8836 Posted February 14, 2014 I am sure that different kinds of maps are planned - not just the topographic maps we have now but touristy maps etc. Having a mini map (or an online map on another monitor) takes away a lot from the game. Or you could wait until GPS is added.
ALEXANDER10 (DayZ) 8 Posted February 14, 2014 Totally wrong game. However the mini map could perhaps be the mini gps had the mod.

Wolfguarde 108 Posted February 14, 2014 Absolutely not.I'll explain for the others who are pretty much tearing this down without saying why: The difficulty factor added by not being able to navigate properly is part and parcel of the game's challenge. You actually have to get to know the map, learn it the hard way. Yeah, I know - it's annoying as hell to begin with. It's still pretty annoying even when you know the landmarks. But it makes the game interesting, and ensures there's always a chance you'll wind up somewhere you didn't intend to go. The most interesting adventures are the ones that happen off the beaten track. As for your second suggestion... the game strives for realism, or at least authenticity. Teleports are something that should and will stay in Minecraft - it's the sort of game where they're convenient almost to the point of necessity with world size, but in DayZ - especially with vehicles on the way, albeit slowly - it just isn't necessary, nor conductive to an immersive game experience.

Sonic-NKT 38 Posted February 14, 2014 i agree that maps are too rare atm... because of this i also use a online map on my second screen. i would like to get rid of this but then they have to also fix the map, i would love to have a map (atleast) parts on screen when i activate it and not fullscreen all the time.. it even has loading time to get and remove the map atm. maybe they should add a option to view a small part of a map on screen if you have the map in your hands. PS: no i dont mean a minimap on the screen all the time.

So if you have the normal map thats found, you can either set it as a sorta minimap or as a normal map you take out of your inventory

Hethwill_Khan 233 Posted February 14, 2014 This is something that could be implemented, map use wise, when we have the luck to find a map. Maybe dual wield, with compass in one hand and map on the other.
elLoCo 154 Posted February 14, 2014 (edited) So I want to be the one LoK was asking for, FIRST: as some already stated this game lives from your orientation. I know it's hard sometimes to figure out where you are, but that is intended. If you really feel lost, there are lots of ressources on the web that tell you where you are. Find a town, read the name on the sign and find out where is north and you should be fine. SECOND: Nearly same as first. It is intended to find your way. If you want to meet someone figure out where a secluded place between you and your friend is and meet there! This game is mostly about the journey and the encounters you encounter^^ on your route from A to B! Edited February 14, 2014 by elLoCo
Lupine 14 Posted February 14, 2014 Yeah.. Teleport .. NO.. mini map.. im used to playing with them in other games, but I do kind of like the "LOST" feeling this game gives by not having them. I actually coppied out and cut up a map with "THE GIMP" , then printed out the pieces on my printer so i have sections i can look at while playing, honestly, I find it adds to the atmosphere, because when i first started I died a lot.. i had to actually work out on the map where i was spawning (and respawning) and then learn where the closest drinkable water was. Now i know I ran the wrong way many a time, that there are ponds and pumps all over the place to find. I also had to correct myself by my perceptions, I thought i was spawning at one place on the map, but figured out it was another town further north. It doesnt take ages to figure out the maps, especially if you find the ingame maps.. (most i have found so far are 3 of the 4 before dying) which show much more zoomable details of areas, but take up more slots.. If you are running around in the forests, use your landmarks, use the power lines (they criss cross all over the map) and railways, rather than just the roads. Now if we got a mini map, its going to show enemies and other people on the map.. which then again is going to ruin the "surprise" effect when 3 zombies try to ambush you . .or the sport of trying to ambush zombies before they spot you.. so i understand what you mean. .but I am going to say... NO to the mini map as well. I do hope in the future we will have a "team /.clan" global chat of some sort for each server, not just an "close area" chat, as i do like talking to fellow players in game. that way you will let your fellow players know where you are, how far away u are from their spawning points, etc, while they can help by gathering replace ment loot, or keeping your body "safe" after death. the present "restart" after 4 hours wont help with that .. but when they get the respawn thing worked out, and with comm's then it will be do-able i hope. ^_^
Hethwill_Khan 233 Posted February 14, 2014 ( I'd suggest a complete new map that no one knows so to put everyone in the same shoes, but i won't... waiting for the release and then the release of modding tools )
misce 15 Posted February 14, 2014 Interactive map, if you must. A map we would be allowed to draw on - mark our current position in accordance with some landmark, and then - with the help of our trusty compass, mark where we go from there. I don't really like GPS systems and magical minimaps which always know your position. I like the feeling of being lost. In a video game, at least. :)
TEST_SUBJECT_83 465 Posted February 14, 2014 Not knowing where you are is part of DayZ.There is an in game map, you just need to find all the pieces first :)
minime1000 78 Posted February 14, 2014 These features would help a lot actually. I mean if something unrealistic like 3rd person view is in for roleplay purposes then why not let me just teleport to a friend so we can camp and do stuff together faster. This would improve the experience a lot in my opinion and cut out a lot of the running which is very unfun from a roleplay point of view. Gave you my beans.
