100man servers... my biggest fear has been realised.

Recommended Posts

had a fool around on the 100man today, and decided that once it's rolled out properly I'll be avoiding major cities like the plague. Took a trip to Electro to find beans and maybe a gun before buggering off up north, found a city strewn with corpses, bambis punching eachother, and almost every roof becoming home to a sniper.

I could've sworn this is one of the reasons spawns were moved away from cherno/balota? (along with them being op spawnpoints, ofc)

Regardless, if they turn the servers into great big deathmatches, I'll definitely be spending more time up north, away from Bambi Fight Club - Electro chapter.

Aside from that, if people can resist the urge to constantly zerg the big cities, Iook forward to higher pop servers :)

What's everyone else's opinion on the possible ugrade? <3

I jumped on and apart from one fool i shot in the ass at the fire station Cherno was completely empty of players and i had all the lovely loot to myself.

I think there is plenty of room on the map for 100 players but people have to realise it is a big map and to get off the east coast.

Where is this 100 man server you're speaking of?

I'm thinking the sweet spot is more around 80 players myself! That said I haven't tried the 100 player experimental yet.

I think it sounds delightful. Getting close to that 'day zero' feeling.

People in urban centers going crazy fighting each other so of course some head out for the countryside... Which is just as infected but has fewer people...

Sounds about right to me.

Now put ten times the zombies in....

And only allow 60 or so guns or 50 or so cans of food to exist at any given time....

Even with 40 players I avoid the cluster fck that is often Electro.  Strangly enough Cherno seems normally quite.

100 players sounds great, the more the merrier. It's a shame all the UK experimental servers are at 40.  Are any still running 100?

joined yesterday to one of these servers.

a group of 15 black naked men forsed me to do some sort of religious ritual or they said they are going to eat me.

ran away, found only one pair of destroyed boots. loot no where to be found, dead bodies everywhere, big bandit squads everywhere.

i had nightmares.

on a sidenote, the 100 were reduced to 80 after a bit. Still we played hours straight and was great great fun.

Once the environment is harsher and zombies more dangerous requiring more group oriented play to reduce risk, higher population servers will hopefully be a good thing. As it stands, more people just means more chance of getting sniped randomly since everyone and their dog has a mosin with scope due to server hopping.

The description you made of this sounds pretty fun actually. It's just a shame that people don't realize that is way more then Elektro to see. I want some riot in Navy Sobor.

Can anybody tell me how to access the experimental branch? Is it just via the server browser or do I have to update the game?

(Searching myself right now but if you don't mind, please let me know)

Thanks!

It's not about the Player/Area ratio, but about the Player/Zombie ration. Once you have that city filled with 200 to 300 zombies, well, good luck :D

I love the idea of higher population servers.  When you can be in Berezino, Polana, and Dolina and not meet a single player in an hour long period on a 40 man server, you have some strange things going on!

Likewise, in 2 hours we met no players in the Zeleno, Green Mountain, Vybor, NWAF chain.

Cars will surely be a game changer, taking the strain off big city's and increasing loot amount.

They will never do that.  Most youtubers and streamers make the game look like a deathmatch with perma-death.  As long as people keep "YOLO LOL"'ing into cities and playing on the coast yelling at kids to square up and fight each other on sight like it's mortal kombat, this will never change.

I enjoy playing up north west but the lack of players is sometimes extremely disheartening.  I've seen maybe 5 people up north in my over 100 hours of gameplay.

If they dont make 100 player servers the standard you will never see me on them. I know most normal sane players will avoid that cluster fuck especially if there new.

100 players is 2 square km per player, give or take. Still plenty of territory to accommodate :)

Mathematically it's 2.25km² per player. So yeah, I get your point.

Realistically it's whatever the total surface area of Cherno, Elektro, Balota, NWAF, NEAF, and Berezino is. Without actually trying to figure it out, I'll estimate 40km², which is 0.4km² per player. It'll be like semi-realistic Counter-Strike.

Cap 'em at 60 and move on, Rocket!

Just make it possible that players spawn in a random place on the map and fix the goddamn zombie / loot respawn and 100 man servers are just fine

100 players sounds awesome to me, you won't spend hours running from place to place never encountering another person.

Elektro/Cherno will probably be murder central but you'll find a lot of lone wolf type players out in the woods, the map is still big enough to not meet a person every 2 minutes.

I too believe its going to be horrid to start with. However, once loot is respawning and zombies are roaming it will be a totally different ball game...

I think its a good way to force players to go North and not hover around the coast. Same goes for bandits, the need to stay on the coast wont be as high as more players will venture off as fast as possible. Overall I stick to what I say, Horrid to start but in future it will be interesting to say the least...
