Do people still server hop?

Recommended Posts

I find this to be the players who do not know how to play the game. I read a post yesterday "10 hours and I still dont have a weapon"

Good Lord- nobody is going to hand you a weapon. Go on Youtube and watch the countless videos to learn this game.

Right now, I'm nearly fully geared in 40 minutes without server hopping and Im not going to an airfrield. You can do the same. Learn the tricks.

Unless the server has been ransacked, which does happen if regular restarts don't happen, I'd be hard pressed to not have a few weapons w/ ammo after 40 min. High value buildings, whether residential, industrial, or military all spawn weapons and ammo. People seem to think you can only "score" at the airfields...dumb.

The only way to stop sever hopping is with private hives, where the player only leaves inside that server. It would be interesting if a group of servers could share a hive so you can choose to hop around servers if the server you have your character in becomes empty (or the other way around, you got tired of avoiding bandits or other people and you just want to run around and try other stuff than looting, like crafting). That way you would have to choose a server or a server group and play only there. Or, you could try your luck on another hive and start all over (without losing your previous character on the other hive, of course).

A 5 min wait is still not as long as it takes to go around from town to town gearing up. Ergo there are still benefits to server hopping even with the timer.

What we need is a system that deals out an extensive punishment to people who change servers more than once in a given period. If you hop once wait 5 mins, hop again and wait 20 mins I say. That way you're still being reasonably fair to those who change server for legit reasons, but stopping the people who change continually.

Everybody keeps suggesting to attack the symptoms and not the illness. Make them wait longer between server jumps and you will only get more patient server hoppers.

I have found the M4 in numerous places outside of the air fields.  It is definitely rarer though.

It also spawns in any school.. which are littered in almost every town. Also on the ship. Getting an M4 is easy.. ammo for it, on the other hand..

yes ..if i leave one of my servers on for an hour or so, it will be looted and very few players will connect for longer than 10 seconds... when restarting it, it will be flooded by hoppers. how they know to tell when to join and not is beyond me, but they simply seem to be able to do just that ..it will not help them though, because i will restart the server before there character is saved to the database anyway ^^

Let's face reality here. This game is about gearing up as fast as possible and then shooting at everything in sight. As long as 5 people per server are playing this way, it's going to spiral into server wide KOS'ing which further depletes all resources.

You can run inland and sometimes find non-looted cities, but after all that, then what? There is no persistent anything yet. No reason to really value your character except for the gear you've managed to acquire.

If they go the right way it will be: "look for foord and water as fast as possible and not for the next military base and grab the next assault rifle to shoot others". Maybe then will players "play together" to gather supplies. Time will tell.

The problem with the current system is that there's a group of people who are overloaded with loot versus people who can't find anything at all. Scarcity isn't the point, it's loot distribution between players. The ideal situation would be a rare number of fully geared "veterans", where it is now mostly the opposite, with most players being fully geared. It makes it increasingly hard for a new player to survive.

Well duh...of course when you have the part that are casual players and the other part marathon hoppers. Of course you will have uneven distribution. This is where private hives with limited loot respawn will come in handy.

That may be true, but how many people are interested in playing a game where you can't find a gun, can't find ammo, barely find food/axe?

Game sales would not be where they are at if scarcity of a weapon is so common.

I have zero desire to run around weaponless out in a small town, interacting with someone who has an axe and is going to split my noggin in 2 and the only defense i have is to double tap W.

This game needs weapons. It just needs a reasonable deployment method.

tbh the game was hyped and at least 50% are whining about the game not giving them anything to do. If you want to know what can be done in the SA look at the mod. Of course the game needs weapons but what you get in most times is a bit too much considering so many people whine about KoSers so obviously there is an abundance of weapons and ammo. Food is not yet important for those people.

Too bad there are morons that argue: "HURR DURR THERE IS NO 'WAY THE GAME IS SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYED' IT'S A SANDBOX HURR DURR."

I agree that it completely ruins the point of the game but there are stupid idiots on the forums who claim that server hopping is a valid play style and that we shouldn't tell them any "right way to play" since to us, their way is wrong and to us their way is wrong.

nothing is worse then the people that lay down all day and snipe people, the only way to get loot if it's all gone is either change servers or wait for a server restart, only people i could see complaining are people wanting somebody to wander into a airfield unarmed so they can snipe them.

I dislike server hopping...but I am doing it right now !

thanks for game crash, I logged into character with broken leg. Thankfully near medical house, so I am trying to server hop to find morphine. I have no intentions to crawl for 1+ hour to the next town....

I would just suicide, but I am on hardcore, and I did have char nicely geared up. So I dont want to suicide due to a dang game crash :(

(note I am not hopping for weapons, etc - I just need morphine !)

Well the problem is that people can't be bothered to run around the map to get all their gear, it takes less time to get to a good spot then server hop.

I don't think respawning loot is gonna help because why wait for it to respawn when you can server hop and get more, quicker?

Vechicles may help, but making it so that people who wish to server hop have to wait longer than it would take them to run to the next town might be the best option, combined with the above.

No wait, actually the solution is private hives.

Yep. As the timer is easily circumvented it's extremely effective to hop servers now  :)

I jump quite a lot, at least when im on a new char and in need of gear. Just exit in some nearby trees, to the military houses, and log into another server.

My technique is to get onto the servers which are around 12.00 server time, because they usually reset at that time :)

It's less, but obviously not solved.

The solution is real simple though, just let zombies spawn inside of high-loot buildings, and in the areas around them. If you try to server hop anywhere near those buildings, you're going to get mauled before you can even spawn properly. Of course if you still intend to server hop, you must now not only face a horde of zombies, but you'll also have to expose yourself to players outside. Which means server hopping could be countered pretty easily.

More Zeds will be added later, i guess atm its immpossible.

Why not post in the 'medical assistance' thread... t'is what it's there for!

For what reason?

For obvious reasons.. though, again, I think it's more lucrative to farm hoppers than servers, if you're a sniper that is (headshot so you can loot anything you need after without worrying what got ruined).
