Duplication exploit - need for global wipe?

Duping isn't a big deal currently because there's no persistent storage. In the mod, dupers would have a field day 'creating' AS50s, M107s, Mk48s and the like, and then stuffing them away in tents along with ammo, GPS, ghillies, NVGs, the lot.

 

Now all duping does is make life slightly easier after a respawn if you're playing with a buddy. It'll need to be fixed before they add persistent storage, though.

well characters get reset naturally, and also from death, so the probably , when fixed would probably slowly diminish from like 50% population, to 10% pop, 5%, 1% in just a week

By all means I am not condoning in it, or supporting it.

Just saying global wipes will not fix it.. probably just make it worse.

Never done it personally but today, first time in a while I joined into a larger group and they are all talking about duplication. (well to be fair they also log out during close combat, and server hop for fights)

 

We had a shoot out with another clan, numbers of deaths don't count at this point. But after things quite down and there is only me and another guy from my group left alive, he tells everyone to meet up with him so he can copy his body countless amount of times for them. They were so happy about it, too bad that I'm not a fan of it and used my gun to share that feeling with him.

 

I'm glad I've done it, together we can stop the exploiters!

 

It really makes me sad that people like that are a part of DayZ community...

I don't like the sound of my hard earned gear being wiped because some buttplugs decided to exploit.

This is an apha and we have been warned before buying the game that regular character wipes would be part of this apha experience, so...deal with it

I merely stated that I wouldn't want to part with my gear just because someone decided to dupe.

I would estimate the amount of people that is actually going to use the exploit increases, simply by posting this thread about it. I don't know what kind of bug it is, what it does or how to do it and I'd like to keep it that way.

I have never heard of this exploit. But I have no issues with regular character wipes to prevent it. After all this is just the alpha.

 

You can't go saying logical things like that around here, you'll get yourself into trouble, hombre. People will kick and scream about their precious gear on EVERY single wipe, regardless of the disclaimer applied to this Alpha.

I almost feel like an idiot , i dont know how to duplicate but some how i have managed to duplicate my character spotted this dup and tried talking to it and it didnt talk back but it didnt move either, i figured afk so i waited 10 min watching lol.

 

Finally gave up and shot it (looked like it had some good gear as it had same mil gear on as me) while checking the body i realized it was me as it had everything i did.

I don't know that exploit and I would not use it, even if I knew how it works.

Never cheated in any game and I do not intend to change that.

 

It's a shame to see that I'm the minority. The community always manages to ruin the gameplay of any game.

Give them one slight leak and they will go trough it like rats who just found some cheesy cheese.

It is hardly hard earned currently still very Very easy to gear up and to be honest i thought we would get a wipe every major patch. Its alpha guys expect to be starting over and over again to test there item economy in game. thats what we here for to play test not to just play remember that warning to not buy unless you wish to support development well one of the things needed to do that is to test there economy levels every time they change spawn rates..

That's totally irrelevant to my point... My point was that I don't want my gear wiped BECAUSE SOMEONE ELSE DUPED.

It's not my fault people are exploiting - why should I be penalized because of it?

 

Obviously character wipes will happen as the game is still in Alpha and I realize this.

By now I think that almost everyone know about duplication exploit and about 90% of DayZ players is doing it.

 

Most of us have seen duplication charaters parked near spawn zones. Scale of character duplication exploit is huge.

 

So huge that there is need for global character wipe in my opinion when the duplication exploit gets fixed.

 

I've been playing religiously every day since I finished work two weeks ago (I go back in two more weeks for a month straight, boo!) and I've never bothered to ask around to figure out how to duplicate stuff. I've heard about it, yeah, but who in the fuck actually bothers with that stuff?

I can tell you why they won't wipe (or shouldn't.) If the patch introduces bug with the hive that affects character saves, then no one will know immediately. Better to keep characters around till they are done adding things and have everything stabilized... Then wipe.

 

Remember folks, this is Alpha. You are helping to test the game and make it better. People being idiots and hacking/duping only show the current weakness' in said game and give Rocket n' folks a chance to fix those issues.

Yeah, sure we know about it. But some of us are here to play the game and are NOT relying on exploits to get gear. We know there will probably be global wipes at the end of Alpha and Beta. I doubt we will go into the release with any gear from the testing phases of development.

What would be the point of wiping characters after every patch?  If we were here to actually test the game and not play it, Bohemia would be hosting every single server on the current list.  How many of the servers do they actually host?  Less than 5%.

 

You all can keep calling this an Alpha all you want, but all the "Alpha" tag does, is prevent people from frivolously getting their money back from Steam "because they are unhappy with the game".  Read my sig, alpha came and went, the beta was a long time ago, what we are playing now, and what we all purchased, was the released game.  Is it complete and done?  Nope, that's what the Alpha tag tells you, literally nothing more.

 

Testing the levels of loot and what not still applies whether people are geared up or not.  If they're geared up, they'll be looking for more specific things, testing the loot... as if they were geared up players.  And for the players that are'n't, they'd be testing the gear levels, as if they were.. new.. players...

 

Anyway, character wipes are just dumb.  We can easily kill ourselves at anytime during playing, whether it's simply walking up some stairs, walking down them, or doing just about anything in the game.  I understand that the team claims they had enough security breaches within those first couple patches to call for a complete database wipe, but if they do that again; it's only going to make them look bad, and egg the actual hackers writing the scripts for everyone to troll that much harder.

Don't feed the trolls, don't burn it down.  Characters don't need a wipe.

Talking out of your ass must take a lot of practice, I'd like to take some classes as it could be a neat party trick. Clearly you know nothing about software development. You are also way too attached to your virtual items.
