Movement very clunky

Recommended Posts

I'm an arma player, so this shouldn't be a problem for me, but movement feels a LOT more clunky than in arma. If I'm in a house, I feel like I'm driving a truck instead of controling a human being. Anything being done about this?

for me arma is more cIunky. its basic the same but without weapon coIIision in the SA.

but dayz isnt optimized. so maybe you just have to Iow fps in urban areas

Yep the movement can continue while after you release your WASD. That's one problem. Other one is the very high negative mouse acceleration when you don't have a weapon.

movement is clunky, and turning rate seems to change arbitrary... like if you walk into a house, want to turn to leave it again and it changes turning speed randomly while you are turning..

some people will claim its "realism", because apparently the gravitational forces of the walls slow your turning rate when you look at them, but dont slow you donw when you dont look at them.. or something...

there surely exists a middle ground between arena shooter 1:1 mouse control and current FUBAR nauseatingly arbitrary mouseSpeed = rand() % 100 + 1; version, right?

I am not sure you understand what we're talking about here. This has nothing, whatsoever to do with "animation".

We're talking about controls not reacting properly to player input - be it mouse or keyboard, and this is extremely obvious indoors. Like I've said, I've played OP:FP and all armas, never had this problem (then again, never played dayz mod).

don't patronise me >:(

I say again for you who don't manage to absorb informations

dayz is alpha early release

animation affect character movement and control and is more to come

so when they complete animations and make final stance adjust THEN they looking at controls and sensitivity setting etc

is no point to do now :D

BIS create unique system in arma series taking decades

is good enough for train soldier I am sure military don't make QQ to BIS 'make like CoD the mouse' :o

they pay for system that do best job of simulate real movement of human body :P

is not perfect but is fucking great when you master how to use

is good enough for millions who play and love arma series and mod like dayz etc

trust BIS

when beta coming controls will be more like arma 3 for sure with less clunky more smooth ;)

Even though you are hiding behind a wall of illiteracy, the points you are trying to fling across are still invalid, and before you ask, english is the 3rd language I've learned.

Once again. Animation does NOT affect character movement, and is by NO means something that is done first.. a solid foundation for any FPS is first and foremost responsive controls. Everything else comes after.

Mastering how to drive a human-sized truck inside a house should not be something people should master, that's just ridiculous.

again, dear brother in arms, i have to disagree. not the product "doing the best job" wins a governement contract, but the one best lobbied. and once you sold your product once, you usually get all follow-up contracts because changing to a competitor would require everybody already familiar with the system be retrained.

I'm with KoS on this one. I've played with the evolution of the control setup in this engine from OFP and up through the ArmA series. The controls have always sided with realistic response rather than the usual FPS twitch crap of other shooters. Could it be better? Probably, but it is completely adequate ATM.

Your turning rate is relative to your movements, stances, and weapons in hand among other things they are not arbitrary. These are not my words but Deans now if only I can remember where I saw this so I can post the link.

Animation does NOT affect character movement

Yes it does it very much so certainly does. If I reload I cant move at a sprint if I eat I can not move at all if I do the slow vault I can not move fast in the middle of it if I have my weapon raised vs not raised I move differently. Animations among other thins very much so certainly affect movement.

Hello there

Ive played the RV engine in many games and sims, from OFP and VBS to DAYZ and Arma3.

Whilst controlling ones avatar has improved and the way your avatar is actually there that lifts the the RV engine above other games I still think avatar control sucks big bottoms.

If you have a decent machine and get good FPS then that removes many of the perceived issues, but IMHO movement/control is not great for the end user.

I can cope with it. But id rather that I felt more in control.

The mouse control in Arma 3 is fine for me too, however in Dayz its still just as broken as it is in Arma 2.

Well, heres hoping that Dayz 2 is a fork off the Arma 3 version of the engine.

Hey, I have a strong rig and I'm not pushing the game to the limits, getting very good FPS.. it's definitely not that, when I get into a house it's just annoying to navigate it as if my guy had the inertia of a 2 ton elephant.

Hello there,

I agree (although perhaps an elephants is a bit much) but with a good rig, avatar control can feel a little better, but its still poor IMHO.

This isnt a DAYZ problem per se rather an inherited issue. (AFAIK)

Sorry but everyone who says the controls are FINE is simply a fanboy or doesn't know what they are talking about. Controls cannot be fine when mouse acceleration is ON by default and cannot be turned off.

(rocket explained why btw, because your rotations speed is determent by gear, pavement, health status etc its hard to disable this but they are looking for a way to disable this)

Mouse acceleration might also explain the OP's post. the controls feel completely random because the distance of you mouse is not the same for each turn depending of the speed of your mousehand, so sometimes you overshoot turn or undershoot em and run into wals/doors.

Yes, you can adapt to this, that doesn't mean its good or even acceptable.

was just going to chime in on the mouse accel issue...its going to be fixed eventually. This game will become less clunky with time for sure.

Its just a bit of a shot to show the option in the menu, but it not actually do anything...thanks Rocket!

Sorry for bring a dead thread back to life but i didn't want to make another thread. I'm having the same problem. I have to hold my wasd down literally for more than 1 second to get my char.acter to move and its VERY annoying. Why so unresponsive?

you are one topic troll who don't speak sense and have mentality of not listen to reason

I put you on ignore list

from this moment you stop to exist for me goodbye :D

Haha mad little child. Haha no wonder this kid got banned lol Its legitimate to be angry at the unresponsive movement. Obviously the troll here is this chap KoS who thinks since he can do it everybody else should be able to like him. Banned lol GG

Is there any way to make my character responsive to a click? Instead of holding down wasd for get my char to move an "unknwn" distance, since he doesn't stop moving after you let Go of wasd.... Jesus lol

Double tab shift. It feels much more natural. And it drains less energy.
