Removing Grass for fps

I recently saw a video ( not gonna say who posted ), of somone with a low end pc removing the grass for fps increase, Is this illegal? will you get a ban/kicked. I'm asking not because i want to see everyone better, but more for performance.

If he altered any of the .pbo files (and I can't think of any other way to do this), then yes, it is an exploit that BE will detect. Remember, BE may not immediately ban you for something like this, but in the next week you can't play DayZ... well...

As an aside, in ArmA II and III removing the grass only had a minimal effect on FPS. You're better off using this post: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/154330-possible-fps-enhancer/. At least all those methods are legitimate.

 

EDIT: I just took a look at the video you hinted at, and it was made well before BE was activated in DayZ. I can guarantee that ATM this will be detected by BE as a cheat. You may not get a Global Ban for deleting the specified file, but you also won't be able to join any BE protected server. Use at your own risk.

You don't need to edit the PBO file to change view distance, detail, or grass. Also, BE hasn't been set to detect game file integrity yet, otherwise it would kick you automatically like it did in the rest of the Arma series. And clouds! Don't forget about losing those clouds! Only time they are helpfully is on night time servers with your gamma & brightness all the way up. Please hurry with night vision googles Dean!

Are you playing on the experimental servers because I have never seen anyone get kicked for file check. Plus people are currently abusing plenty of file dragging and dropping loopholes.

I am presently playing on the Exp servers, but BE has been activated on the current Stable builds. I think that people aren't actually using the .pbo exploits as much as it would appear they are. There are other hacks out there that have similar functionality, but for the most part a lot of the glitches we are seeing in game are more due to the vaguaries of the internet and the fact that DayZ still has a lot of holes in the code.

 

I also may not be seeing much of this since I've switched to the Hardcore servers almost exclusively, and they attract a different class of player than the Regular servers (No disrespect intended to anyone.).

I bet they will also remove the ability to completely disable settings to avoid exploits like turning of shadows with the bold statement of needing more fps while the hardware could handle it. I knew a player who turned off shadows although he had better hardware than me...

ya i think you should at least have to have low shadows and low grass on. shouldn't have disable option.

lol why? wouldn't turning off shadows put you at a disadvantage? I've seen people before LOS because of shadows..

 

Now turning off grass I agree shouldn't be able to be turned off.

same goes for post processing and blurry vision if hurt...

i hope they add restrictions in the future so you cant join hardcore servers for example if you have played with your settings to get an advantage.

Surprisingly grass actually seems to be one of the less taxing parts of the game, I would recommend an upgrade.

The only way he removed grass that I know is by removing .pbo file but you should be kicked for that by Battleye.

 

And second method on removing grass is using some kind of 'fps booster* program, but when battleye will catch you on that you gonna get banned.

I just tested deleting all object files, BE didnt give a damn that I could see through walls.

Generally speaking everything you turn off makes players easier to spot. Picture your adversary lying in a shaded treeline, he's somewhat difficult to spot. Now turn the shadows off and he is lit up, and considerably easier to see.

except for the one thing that other players will not cast shadows anymore..
what is a bad thing
example:
you can make out people on high porsitions because you see their shadow
not a big thing but .. yeah helped me sometimes to avoid getting killed
