You will need a GPS-Tracker and a Full-Map to track your location.

GPS-Tracker is not yet in the game... at the moment orientation has to be done with a compass or points of interest (cities for example).

I think the map fragments found in the game should be relevant to the location they were found in.  For example, I have a map fragment of NW and South, but I haven't been in those areas with this character, so both maps are useless.

I would be fine with a map as long as it didn't show your position or the position of cities. Basically, just the physical area, if you can recognize any landmarks than you would find it useful. What would make the game crap is putting a map with cities and loot spots marked, and a goddam GPS. Ugh. No thanks. Exploring is one of the great joys of the game!

 

Rather have no map than too good of one.    :D

Considering its a better map than the one in game, and I'm not talking about loot spawn locations. I'm talking about finding your way in general. YES, That map is 100x better than the shitty map that's next to completely fucking useless that nobody picks up in game.

 

Edit: And honestly, when was the chernarus in game map made? In the fucking 1970s? Because I have modern maps in my home and they look detailed and not to hard too read. The moment I opened up the in game map, instantly realized how fucking useless it was and dropped it. Never picked one up or payed attention to it again.

 

I've also never looted any players who had a map on them. Not becuase they are hard to find. But because of how inadequate and useless they are.

Server hopping for gear is a more immediate issue. At the moment, good chance whatever server you enter isn't going to have loot regardless of where you spawn. So committing suicide is a waste of time until you hop on a server with all the doors closed in elektro.....

Outright lies!!! GPS, my arse. We have the sun, moon and stars. Clouds even. All these are shouting out the cardinal points of the compass you DON'T need.

The problem is not the in-game map. It is accurate and extremely useful. It has every current building marked and every PoI labeled. It doesn't mark your position on the map, but working out where you are? Give me a break!

Absolutely nothing wrong with the in game map, it works just fine for me. Maybe its not the map that's fucking useless??, and to the OP the game is supposed to be authentic how many maps do you pick up in real life that tell you your exact location. Jeez some people choose the strangest things to moan about.

90% of the DayZ community uses this map, unless you live under a rock or already know the map so well you don't need it anymore.

if you lack the balls or the  mental capabilities to play the survival game  with the provided assets, there are enough out-of-game ressources to dumb it down for you. ingame map is perfectly adequate to find your way around, i only hope we see a variety of maps in future, especially more tourist maps instead of the topo maps.

I use shift + tab and use the steam browser.  Less troublesome.

You can open a map in steam overlay or on another monitor. Once you find your bearings you are all set.
