taikonaut 85 Posted March 20, 2014 (edited) There is a new promotional video for the Snowdrop Engine from the GDC. I know... complete different application of an engine... but man, it looks aweseome. Edited March 20, 2014 by dayzjarhead
Highlander007 249 Posted March 20, 2014 Powerful Ubi. What they've done with Assassins Creed and Far Cry is also legendary.
makomachine 263 Posted March 20, 2014 I look forward to seeing the Division - probably my most anticipated release for this year/early next. That said, I share the same doubt as others about Ubisoft's disclosure - big history of over promising early in development. That said, LOVED Far Cry and keeping the fingers crossed that they can deliver half of what they are showing.
Ozar 108 Posted March 20, 2014 well, another awesome Thing about this engine is the way you can build maps.you can create new objects and put them right away to the test build and having it tested ingame without any big efforts for coder etc.
Sirwarriant12 94 Posted March 20, 2014 Snowdrop engine + thirdperson = still shit Just checked, only on CrapBox and CrapStation4, I'll be damned if that game is anything like DayZ. Full loot? Open PvP? Permadeath?! No one would make a game like that for consoles. EDIT: lol'd at that fucking wallhack scan to check for enemies inside hahahaits on pc as well.....
Mullraugh 1151 Posted March 20, 2014 Why can't we have forests like that...
nautic 40 Posted March 20, 2014 Snow Drop looks awesome. But for a game like dayz it really depends on the mapsize. The further you can look, the more you have to render. I think most engines are not optimized for huge maps, but for smaller ones. They try to create as much detail as possible, to create a realistic view. But the amount of details they add might not scale for maps as huge as dayz.
Jex 1104 Posted March 20, 2014 Anyone who doesn't wait for the Division to be released and for the reviews to come in is a dumbass. There's a rush to get a new game why exactly?
hombrecz 832 Posted March 20, 2014 OK Division looks nice, but I'm far more interested in...The Forest! But yeah, Forest is single player only, they might add some coop later, but the survival aspects and base building kinda caught my fancy!

Jex 1104 Posted March 20, 2014 For PC and Occulus Rift only I see. Looks pretty good, maybe you need to build a fortress to keep them out and place traps everywhere.

xX_fr0st-w0lf_Xx (DayZ) 343 Posted March 20, 2014 Perhaps it won't turn out to be as good looking and open world as the gameplay makes it seems, however if it does I would take the division anyday. Its quality over quantity for me, would not mind a smaller map if it means better quality and more player encounters.
Katana67 2907 Posted March 20, 2014 (edited) The Division is definitely on my list of most anticipated games for 2014/2015. Snowdrop engine looks great, and flexible. The Division isn't going to be like DayZ though, it'll have instanced zones for PvP (called Dark Zones IIRC). I think people need to chill with the RV engine praise, other engines can handle long draw distances and large maps. RV is great for DayZ, but it certainly isn't the only option... especially for the speculative future. Plus, if you consider the relatively low-resolution textures of Chernarus, the RV engine really starts to show its age. It's a great engine, but not the greatest thing since sliced bread. If you also consider how much of Chernarus is essentially static (i.e. non-interactive) the effect is compounded. I doubt Snowdrop would be plausible, given that it seems proprietary to Ubisoft... but yeah. Edited March 20, 2014 by Katana67
eleventhavenue 204 Posted March 20, 2014 If I find a game with good graphics, and tell everyone on the forum that DayZ should run with that engine instead, then surely everyone would find my suggestion to be well thought-trough and intelligent. As we all know, porting a game to another engine is as easy as buying the license and uttering a few magic words. The only reason that the DayZ team doesn't do this is because they are so greedy. Totally.
OrLoK 16185 Posted March 20, 2014 Hello there There may well be other engines able to deliver DAYZ. But all of the studio's main experience is with the RV engine and if anyone's going to be able to squeeze the best out of it, its going to be BI. DAYZ (1) will never move to another engine, so we better get used to that fact. In all my years of gaming Ive never seen any other engine used to create a world as absorbing as the ones created by the RV engine and all it can add. Yes, from "Joe Average Gamer" its Avatar handling is far from perfect, but if one thinks of it more in Simulation terms its not bad at all. Dont forget RV can do pretties on all its forks. Demoth 366 Posted March 20, 2014 It is an open world always online game like DayZ, not single player or linear. You've bought into the Ubisoft hype machine. The game will not play like that. It won't look like that. It probably wont even work for the first few weeks of release. This reminds me of the pre rendered "gameplay" of Killzone 2 that everyone went ape shit over before PS3 launch. It finally came out and it was... meh.

gibonez 3633 Posted March 20, 2014 Dayz simply would not be dayz without being on a bohemia interactive game. Dayz would be nothing if it werent for its long view distances, mil sim aspects and a world that reacts like real life does. Put dayz in any other non mil sim engine and you get well warz. I bought Arma 3 just based on this and agree it is a very unique experience and would guess VERY difficult to do outside their engine...
