Dreypa 98 Posted January 17, 2014 I just want to know there purpose aside from 2 extra inventory slots.I got in a gun fight a few days ago and won ; took three body shots and after checking my inventory ; the case was ruined and so were the contents. So whats the purpose of a "protectorate case" if they don't protect anything. InvisiMan2013 229 Posted January 17, 2014 Can you put a third case inside the case inside the case? :P
soulfirez 901 Posted January 17, 2014 Ah very well known fact and back packs in backpacks will hopefully be fixed soon . I wouldnt recommend doing it for the extra space as well it gets difficult to find the items you want and even more importantly it puts strain on the server and causes even more desync than we have already ......... soulfirez 901 Posted January 17, 2014 It's suposed to protect against water not bullets.its refreshing to see a little common sense amongst the forums. Although i would hope that melee damaged can be seperated from bullet damage because yes this plastic container will not stop a bullet but say hit it with a baseball bat your likely to crack the case but may MAY not damage everything inside. But things get quite complex then so i doubt it will ever factor such things beans for you

Metalunatic 25 Posted January 17, 2014 Who needs that much storage anyway? Exactly. Hopefully we'll see a fix for this soon, but it's not a priority to be honest.
Metalunatic 25 Posted January 17, 2014 It's suposed to protect against water not bullets. Quoted from dayz wiki. ''A molded plastic container that seals with an airtight and watertight gasket. Meets standards for waterproofing, stacking, impact, and durability to military standards. The Small Protector Case can be used to store 6 small items while only using 4 inventory slots. It seems to have been modelled after Pelican brand cases - often nicknamed PeliCases - and has also inherited the hardiness and resistance of the original product. Keeping items in it will protect them from damage otherwise incurred onto them.'' This lets us understand that it should protect against melee/bullet damage. djporternz 644 Posted January 17, 2014 Can you put a third case inside the case inside the case? :PYes you can. You can put a Med kit inside a case inside a backpack (small) inside a backpack (large) and you get to use all those extra slots for holding all your inventory goodness. As an added side effect, it turns everyone else's FPS to shit! So it's gotta be good, no?

(that wiki doesnt say bullet proof just high impact to military standards) More as a general tough to withstand having average sized men fall with them slam into things etc. Hey i am happy for some one pointing at an actual listing of them being resistant to small arms fire cause the peli case web site i didnt find any mention of it.. Not saying i know i am right for sure but wiki link doesnt say it nor are they always deadly correct lol.. Edit if they do turn out to be bullet proof im going to ask they work as protection for us when getting shot then if by chance it hits where u store it.. This means impact as in dropping the case or something hitting the case, not actual bullet impact. It's a plastic case for fucks sake, bullet will go trough plastic. raynor009 204 Posted January 17, 2014 (edited) Here is a tip for you on how to efficiently store ammo in ammo boxes: When you find ammo packs don't empty them, instead put the packs in the ammo box. Thus if the ammo box gets damaged or ruined when you empty an ammo pack the bullets are in pristine condition. Yeah, you're welcome. Baarn 53 Posted January 17, 2014 I'd still consider it good if items in a protector case were protected from bullets. Even though bullets might penetrate a protector case in reality, I don't see why every item in one piece of clothing is ruined after one hit, not very realistic as well. There are reasons to have that much storage space. I have one case full of map pieces I can't combine, and another one with stuff I collected to hand over to freshspawns. Currently I only have one case inside another one, but I really wouldn't mind if this would be removed in the future (actually I'd prefer that). In total I have three medkits, four protector cases and one ammo box. However, I carry my axe in my backpack rather than on my back, so I am 5 inventory places short compared to people who carry it on their back.
OrLoK 16185 Posted January 17, 2014 Hello there Do try to remember that it's really very early days for the retail release. Devs are and were aware of the bag within bag issue, expect it to be sorted in good time. As to clothing item damage spreading to other items, I always think of it as spoilage. Shoot me in the chest and im likely to ruin those trousers too. Again, it's known and will be tweaked. all good things come to those who wait.
