Playing the mod again..

Recommended Posts

The Standalone is great not hating. But after 30 hours or so theres not much else to do. plus its teaching me bad habits, too easy with not many zombies etc.

I am loving the mod again especially epoch.

One day the standalone will be superior but will it be too late? A year in Alpha?

Anyone else back on the mod, and views on this?

Currently I'm still playing the mod since it offers more for now. Standalone is good to have aside since it's at a cheap base price and all the good features will eventually come.

I will be honest, a year in alpha seems extremely conservative.  I would think, with attention, they could shift to something similar to beta fairly quickly.

I haven't played the MOD.  I am not sure I want to try now.  I will play the Alpha until I am bored, then let it rest until they bring some more options in.

I went back to the mod after playing Standalone for the first two weeks after the release, now I stick to the mod and hop in to Standalone every once in a while just to screw around.

It's much easier to find action and do cool stuff in the mod.

No mate they have said don't expect the beta until late 2014 lol. Just hope it doesn't backfire. If you haven't played the mod you don't know what you're missing. Base building, helicopters, car chases, running from 10 zombies at a time, endless possibilities.

I never stopped. I fully expected to run out of things to do in the SA because it is an ALPHA. I love the changes, but I swap between the two to keep from being bored. Just like I also play 2 other games right now.

Lost me at Epoch. Terrible, just terrible.

I tried to play the mod a week ago, took 10 minutes to load a server and I was disappointed in absolutely every part afterward. It was good when you had no other options, but all the mods of the mod were pretty damn horrible. Not to mention the only servers you can find now are "1000+ Vehicles, Tons of Barracks! Self Blood-bag! DMR Load-out".

Should have posted in the modsection, then. ;)

You will love the next patch (1.8.1) - there's going to be a lot of things added that will make the mod a lot more equal to the Standalone. Such as bloodtypes, bloodtestingkits and all that jazz. I will play the mod again as soon as that patch hits. :)

No, there is no competition. The only competition is the mod, I know the mod is hard to beat, but all points already done in the standalone beat the mod.

You did see that the entire Arma2 series, including the DayZ mod is in a humble bundle right now, right? You can pay up to 6 bucks to have the first part unlocked, without operation arrowhead and dayz. So, you'll need to spend anything more than that get what you need to play the mod. A little over 6 bucks for the mod is not a bad price at all.

Hell, I would recommend buying it for a lot of you new SA players. Play the Arma 2 games, fire the weapons in there, play with buddies and practice tactics and get used to the engine to have a better feel for when you come back to SA. :)

Oh I know the timeframe, I am just saying the timeframe seems really long to go from alpha to beta.  I think they are just setting a long range target so people are not too hopeful.

I bought the bundle today, went home to try it out, and found out my hard drive had died on me. I've got the new one, but I'm stuck in class til ten sadly. I hope to try the mod tonight at some point just to have some different stuff to do.

Got the mod today in the Humble Bundle... was a pain in the ass to setup and it's clunky as all hell - nothing like the standalone.  Having said that, I'm assuming the mod never allowed for all buildings to be explored. It's frustrating to go from the Standalone to the Mod when you expect certain things to be there - zombies make it was more challenging though.  I do look forward to seeing the Standalone advance with some mod features.

It's actually trivial to setup,

download Dayzcommander, download whichever mods you want to use and you're set.

The mod does have enter-able buildings only a lot less, It doesn't bother me so much given that the standalone still has so many cosmetic doors in many of the buildings. You'll learn pretty quickly which buildings have interiors and which are just props, much like the doors in SA.

I agree.

Everything the Standalone has is better than how it works in the mod, with the exception being health/food notifications.

I personally love the SA over the MOD any day & any way. One major factor for me is the inventory loads better on SA. The other thing that really sells the SA over the MOD for me is simply fists. I don't know how many times in the MOD I have tried punching instinctively only to throw a damn flare. Now I'm not saying that one is definitively better than the other. This is after all just my humble opinion & to each his own. Now I probably have this view because I only recently tried the MOD after I got The ARMA 2 Complete Collection when it was first on sale at 80% off fracking 8-12$ for it! think it was 8$ :D. I was not able to find a  good server, get into the grove of the game, and was still learning game mechanics while playing COOP missions in ARMA2. I'm sure if I played more of the MOD proper and played it a bit more enthusiastically like I am currently doing with the SA. I might be singing a different tune similar the rest of you.

Epoch mod for regular DayZ is great because it adds some long-term goals like building a house wall by wall and of course having a secret stockpile of guns and vehicles. But it still has the problem of just loosing its point after a while. First, zombies aren't in enough numbers to be a real threat. Second, it is so tedious to do ANYTHING in this game.... example: In my newer server, I have to figure out how to walk all the way north to the trader to sell gold to buy a vehicle. But it will take me so long to get there I just don't bother. I have to make multiple looting tips obviously so it basically turned the game into a running game.

Even though the Epoch DayZ mod is awesome, in general  DayZ suffers from too much running, not enough transportation, and you need too much time to do simple goals. I play it every day and I do enjoy it... but the image my brain gets in the head right before I logon in play is "Oh boy oh boy oh boy!" and the once I login my brain says "so boring so boring so boring."

The idea of a more finished DayZ makes me want to buy the SA. But IMO the inventory was good enough in oringal dayz mod... and SA doesn't touch any of the other core problems of the game that show up after a couple days of playing. No goals to orient players, tedious repetative tasks that make what should be fun frustrating, no real need to survive, no real threats from hordes of zombies, etc. Just more of the same except now they're making money on something that will never be finished. :(

I had no expectations of DayZ before playing and the one trailer I watched of someone hacking zombies was enough to dissapoint me at how the game really plays. But, I've still learned to love it for what it is... whatever that is... :)

I thought Epoch was loaded with vehicles?

Hi.

I'd like to run the mod again, but after my old pc died a death I went to install ArmA 2 on my new pc and realized I misplaced my manuals(with their included cd-keys)

Its just constantly frustrating to see people come bitch about alpha being boring or having problems. the warnings literally couldnt be more obvious. The bellyaching isnt even productive. If you want to be productive post bug reports and make sure you observe and accurately detail problems. Imo threads like these should be moved to a "didnt read the disclamer' section.

I have already admitted to play more breaking point for arma 3 now than SA next patch back i come to test. SA will be awesome but currently BP has it beat altis is a bigger map with more enterable buildings it has incremental stances( arma 3) which is far far better than simple stand crouch prone system) its has about 40 x the current features of SA.( so SO many zeds its actually a zombie game lol )

I fully believe SA will be epic but i play it to test it the experience is far more complete in the breaking point mod as it stands.

But thats just me i aint abandoning the alpha lol i am just seeeing it for what it is and getting my gaming elsewhere.

The notifications when buying sa say dont unless you wish to support development to me that means play testing to find bugs etc and reporting them on the tracker what i do and then i play a little of it get bored go to BP i see far to many people playing SA as a game now specially new players and well it is leaning your playstyle one way before the game has actually become the game....

All just my opinions...
