Roshi (DayZ) 397 Posted January 11, 2014 Hi guys - there have been a few topics about weather and seasons. I'd like to suggest that DayZ is set in Autumn (Fall) for a few reasons... - Allows for cold and hot days - this will be important if the thermal regulation system gets off the ground - cold days would make fires, hot food and running around to stay warm important, may even increase the need for food intake to maintain thermoneutrality. Hot (but not summer hot), sunny days would make hyperthermia (over-heating) a possible issue with all the kit your lumping and all that pesky running around.- Allows for shitty rainy days and even for brief snow storms (without having to redo everything to look like it's under a foot of snow)- Cherno looks like it's in Autumn- Allows for sources of food like apples, black berries etc to be in season...- Autumn and zombies just go well together - adds to the dreary post-apocalyptic vibe. Agree? Any other reasons?

kruger287 13 Posted January 11, 2014 (edited) Yeah I like the setting a lot already but i would really love to see seasonal changes and the like because it would make it seem like a living breathing world. IMHO I think it would benefit from it plus it could add for odd weather and the like. Kinda like the mod for skyrim called Frostfall it adds life to the world through adding elements of cold and stuff with seasons you could do the same there would be extremes and cause ppl to think more on the survival side instead on the KoS side it would just add to the PvEviroment ppl keep saying is there it would make it a reality. Also I realized you mentioned hot and cold but yeah an ever changing world is what i want. But that just my 2 cents. Kruger287 out. Gezus 5 Posted January 11, 2014 I would rather see dynamic weather/season cycles. We already have pretty dynamic Day/Night cycles. Would be a great addition to have the seasons change just like IRL.
Roshi (DayZ) 397 Posted January 11, 2014 True - as a longer term development goal that would be great. I should have specified that I intended this suggestion as a more short/medium term way of features such as snow without having to do what I imagine would be a major overhaul of the engine and/or map

GrumpyGat (DayZ) 497 Posted January 11, 2014 Great idea, would really make this game stand out. +
Chauz 166 Posted January 11, 2014 Nice ideas, I like them allot. Also dynamic weather cycles and seasons (Gezus post) would be a nice addition to the game.
GOD™ 2795 Posted January 11, 2014 shitty rainy days Am i the only person who likes rainy days? ._. Anyhoo, i just would like to see some snow.
DemonGroover 8836 Posted January 11, 2014 Tbh i thought it was already in Autumn. Red, yellow leaves on trees, leaves blowing in the wind.... Not sure about snow...perhaps snow that doesn't settle but a snowy landscape is probably beyond what the devs would do - think of all the extra textures. I am sure temperature will make it into the game, having to stay dry and warm.
Roshi (DayZ) 397 Posted January 11, 2014 Yeah it looks Autumnal (which was one of the reasons) but some further emphasis on the other aspects once they get round to it would be great.
Hosty 647 Posted January 11, 2014 Chernarus is officially in Autumn actually, as the map description says in the Arma 2 Editor I belive. Also the orange-ish trees and all..
joe_mcentire 2074 Posted January 11, 2014 (edited) ahmmm according to the colors of the flora and the visible breath ...yeah the game is set pretty much in autumn already (ohhh....not even ninja'ed anymore...getting too old for that sh...) gregor (DayZ) 95 Posted January 12, 2014 I also see the Cherno time as August or early September. What about seasonal changes, i guess there might be some obstacles. Firstly it seems to be technical question. But even without it is problems with the zeds. They are living organisms, like people. And like people, they are weak against a harsh nature. A few weeks of winter and the zeds would be dead. That don't fit with this game. Therefore i suggested additional map/extension(accessible through passes and tunnels) behind the northern Mountains (which also need to be done). Something like this
XA3 17 Posted January 13, 2014 Good idea. Dynamic weather, not seasons, rain/hot/mild snow. Would like to be able to track some one after a rainy day, running into town leaving mudprints.U have my beanz)
