Sales numbers

Recommended Posts

Is there a place where I can look up sales numbers of the Arma titles and DayZ? I've seen several websites quote numbers, but I really wonder how they get them in the first place. Not that I doubt them or anything, though.

I don't know for Arma, but for DayZ SA, the number of survivors is on the main page of official site http://dayzgame.com/

tells you how many survivors there are, hence purchases of the game. Rocket has made over 5 million last I heard.

5 MILLION? More like 24 million+!

794,975 x 30 = $23,849,250.

Of course Steam gets a cut.  Not sure how large though.

Even if they took an unrealistic 50%, Rocket has made them $12 million.  Although I'm sure Steam doesn't take 50%, I'm just not sure how much they do take.

It's awesome though :)  At least we know they're getting funded!

So rocket is the only one working the DayZ project? No Bohemia.. no other devs.. no hicks..

I believe 5 million dollars is pretty realistic. But whatever, rocket is bathing in money right now!

EDIT: I've seen a few times that Steam gets about 20-30%, depending on the game. The exact amount is under NDA though.

No Troll.  While DayZ is Rocket's child, I do know there's an entire development team working on the game.

And unless Steam takes 75% of sales, 5 million isn't even close.

I think this shit gets kind of weird when people start trying to calculate how much money someone has made

It happened with notch, it's happening with rocket and it will happen the next time somebody makes something that is ridiculously viral.

I'm just an 'old school' dude and think that kind of stuff is no one's business. not to mention trying to figure these things out with some simple arithmetic is a great way to be wrong

It doesn't really matter how much rocket is making as long as he is delivering.

Has anyone looked into Star Citizen, it's not even playable other that you can look at your space ships and they have brought in $34+million on a promise of a game.

We at least have a mostly playable game

He hasn't actually made that much. You have employers, employees, publishers fees, taxes, rent, utilities... there's a lot that goes into a business than just straight profit.

I'm sure Rocket isn't exactly poor but I always have a chuckle when people simply use a calculator to multiply sales x price of product to try and figure out how much someone makes.

I seriously doubt sales profits are going directly into Dean's pockets. They have to pay fees, host servers, pay all the other other developers in the company, Steam, not to mention Bohemia is going to take a large cut and put that money into their own coffers. Honestly he's lucky if he's making more than $150k a year, and he's most likely bound by a contract or something to continue development on the game. The company isn't going to just let him take the money and run.

I'm much less interested in how much Rocket makes, and much more interested in how sales profits have affected the budget. Apart from how much has gone to the dev team directly, BI has almost certainly recouped their initial investment in this project and is probably likely to throw down a bit more to take it over that "major title" threshold.

Because 150k isn't anything to brag about...

Who said that it wasn't?

When compared to $5 million+ like a lot of people speculate, it's not.

BI has almost certainly recouped their initial investment on this procjet from the ArmA 2 sales generated from the DayZ mod alone and Rocket stands to earn more than the Pepsis and Pringles he jokingly charged for working on the mod. However it was always Rocket and BI's goal for the Standalone to be able to carry itself.

Rocket went from a short contract as an ArmA 3 dev, to writing his own contract as lead on the Standalone. I can't imagine that he isn't being well compensated for his contribution to the Bohemia Interactive dynasty. Rocket isn't as extravagant as his fellow countrymen(Kim Dotcom ect.), but I'm pretty sure he was in a position to negotiate a reasonable deal with BI. You have to remember at the time, he was dodging high paying job offers left and right.

I doubt Rocket will reveal exactly how much Rick James money he's getting, but my guess would safely be in the seven digits.

BI will of made the money rocket probably get s a percentage. 800,000 sales is great for such a short time if they can role out good patches and content within decent periods of time then this game now could be game of 2014 and probably do 2 million sales this year. B)

Rocket being rocket will support the game he wanted to make. I do wonder what is happening with regards to his military career. Isnt he still part of it?

Then again after this, he will make another game he wants to play, probably "Hunt the Matt"

We (bohemia and I) had very ambitious plans for 2014 already, however this amount of sales was completely unexpected. Honestly, 250k within a quarter was what I would have considered a success. So to move nearly 800,000 in under a month is crazy.

We'll be finalizing our roadmap in mid January, but it is safe to say that this kind of result will be having a very positive effect on that roadmap.

There was a similar topic back in 2012, at least when it comes to money. No real data; one chap estimated that Bohemia's wage bill came to $5m+ per annum, but he doesn't seem to have accounted for the fact the BI is based in the Czech Republic, not California.

The standalone sold 172,500 units in the first twenty-four hours. At £20 a pop that's £3,450,000. Steam's 30% cut comes to £1,035,000. Equals £2,415,000 for Bohemia Interactive assuming no-one else gets a cut (e.g. Paypal). That works out as roughly $4m in your American money. As far as I can tell the Czech Republic has a VAT rate of 20% but presumably Bohemia Interactive accounts for taxes when they set the game's price.

But of course this is just one day of revenue. The trick now is to entice a general audience - people who aren't hardcore DayZ fans. The hardcore fans have already handed over their money.

EDIT: These people estimate $12m worth of sales in the first week, which would leave $8.4m for BI equals a very merry Christmas.

Great sales numbers and i'm new to game don't know about the Rocket that much,

Do you believe Rocket invest the money to game to make it even more greater? How's his reputation among the playerbase? If he's not greedy and passionate about what he did (not alone off course) that would be awesome!
