Suggestion: Multiple characters

Recommended Posts

(NOTE: If anyone knows about a place where devs are more likely to read this, please put it as a comment below)

I wonder if it is planned, or not, but i would really like to see this implemented... That we would be able to have more than one character in the memory of our account. For example on serious one and one for casual playing. Right now i have a character that i use, when we play as a group, hunting bandits and protecting/helping new spawns, and torturing (xD) spawn campers.

But since we have a sort of "policy" we dont play/move without the group (we log in and out together), i don´t want to play that character alone, so i would have a second character, which i would play when im alone and want to play DayZ.

PS. If this is already possible, i didn´t find a way to do it, and would appreciate help. Thanks.

EDIT:

___________________________________________________________________________

Ok since people who post here are probably too slow "special", to first read the thread thoroughly and THEN post i will put it here.

Basically as a countermeasure to obvious abuse of this I came up with the solution, that one user ID (which every user has a unique one) would be able to have multiple DayZ standalone characters tied to it.

Once a user ID logs into a certain server, that server will remember the character the user ID logged in with and will not permit that user ID to log in with a different character until after restart.

This would make up for the fact, that in DayZ mod, when you switched server, you started anew, so basically multiple characters were implemented in DayZ mod. I would just change server and play alone, then when my friends would be playing again, i would join the former server and play with them again.

Never tried it but I've heard you can change your steam name and it will make a new char... Idk if changing it back restores your old one but hahah that's all I know

I feel like multiple characters will lessen the gravity of getting killed, which is the whole motivating force behind Dayz. I get the whole wanting to play with friends, but thats part of it. trekking across the map and potentially getting killed to meet up with buddies is an integral part of the game

Its not fear for the stuff. Its the wasting about hour of the gameplay waiting to finally meet up with the squad again and getting to one of the spawn locations. This is really discouraging me from playing DayZ more often, which i don´t like

This would be horrible, imagine having 3 characters all at green mountain. One dies, log in with the others.

Hmm yeah i see the problem... Thou it could be fixed, by a simple condition: If you die, you can either respawn your current character on the same server, or you can log in, with your other character, but not on a different server.

No. Stupid idea. One account, one life. This is just going to be an overly abused banking system. Want to save your gear? Get a tent.

I think you must be blind... I don´t care about the stuff... read this again

I think YOU must be blind not to foresee the obvious abuse this is going to take.

Server hop on 2 characters, log one of them out somewhere, put the other one in that location and kill yourself, sign in as the first and safely transfer your ill gotten goods to a cheat account.

Here is a summary of what I think should be implemented, copied from my post on the Steam forums:

Add the ability to make multiple characters (at least two) but prevent any characters from joining the last server one of your own characters were on.

Example: You have two characters, CharA and CharB. CharA joins DayZ Server #1. CharB cannot join DayZ Server #1 until CharA has left that server and a certain amount of time (maybe an hour) has passed.

This keeps the 'one life survival' aspect of the game in place and should prevent any players from exploiting the system. If anyone can think of any loop-holes in this, please post them and we'll see if we can think of a way around those as well. I really want to see this system implemented.

I would increase this time period to simply "until the next server restart"

That's not a bad idea at all. I just want to be able to actually play the game when my friends don't. I know there's nothing -really- stopping me, but I don't want to be the guy who loses all of his gear because he was playing alone.

People would use the other characters as storage mules.

Given what I posted earlier - how could someone possibly use the second character as storage? Please explain this to me.

Get character A to position

Get character B to position

Both characters are in close proximity where other one loged out.

A drops items

A logouts

B logins

B picks up items

profit

same server of course. sheh

Global inventory by another name. Might as well add an in game store with overpriced items, safe zones where you can't be KoS'd and change the name to... W... I... Aww, shit, anyone know what it's called this week?

Bad idea, you'll be able to log out of your main that is starving and bring and drop trade food. One character only please.

As someone else posted... why not up the limit until after the server has been reset? Problem solved, considering those items won't be there after a reset. This isn't an unreasonable time to wait either, considering there are more than enough servers you can choose from.

I already said you wouldnt be able to log in on the same server with a second character until it restarts... have you read that? or you just put on your tinfoil hat and post regardless of what others write?

How would you tell whether that second character is just another legit character or not. There also are multiple user using one computer having their own Steam accounts.
