I was fully geared and a bambi came up to me, needed some food. I gave him food + water we even talked with headset, 2 minutes later his group came by and just shoot me. ( Yes it was his group he made sure I was in the other direction ).

 

Is this a thing now, sending bambis around to attract nice people and just murder them ?

So is he a scumbag or I am just dumb ? Should I never help someone again ? I like to help people but what the fuck, we were talking, everything was good and then just like that ? Who does that ?

That is why I stay away from the coast. If you shoot anyone there you will be called a fresh spawn killer. If you help a fresh spawn they will try to kill you one way or another, they have everything to gain from your death.

On the rare occasion I let a stranger come with me, I tell them to do as I say. I keep talking to them nonstop and if they act fishy I give them one chance before telling them to leave. You can be nice, but the line has to be drawn immediately. Once it's crossed that's their fault.

Scumbag... Whether or not people seem friendly, one must always be on guard. This is DayZ and is what happens.

 

I always remain aware regardless of whether it's a gearless bambi or someone I'm helping with a broken leg. Have I been killed a number of times? Sure, but I do remain friendly regardless. KOS is for pansies  ;)

The funny thing is I've had similar things happen to me and I feel that it's a continuous annoyance. It's gotten to the stage where I simply -don't- help people out anymore. People are exceptionally unpredictable in Dayz and you can expect most to quite happily kill you for whatever gear you have. My advice to you would be this, don't trust the people that you come across, instead treat them with a healthy amount of suspicion if you have to talk to them at all. At the very least, keep your gun trained on them. They are far less likely to act aggressively if you have the obvious upper-hand. Though, in my opinion the best way of avoiding the danger that other survivors present is simply by avoiding other survivors and when you can't, by gunning down those that could potentially pose a threat to you.

Do what makes you comfortable. If they cross the line you've made, then that's their problem.

 

 

If they truly need help they should be happy to oblige with keeping a distance and not taking out a melee weapon near you or ever pointing their gun at you.

 

Always be suspicious and curious about malicious intent. I'm skeptical of people in general so that probably helps in these situations, but find out your lines and let them be known to anyone you're genuinely trying to help. I've found over time in the mod most people who actually want to play with you and/or need your help have no problem and are completely understanding, even the new guys.

Well, the guy above me pretty much covers it. But as I said, if the other survivor poses a significant threat (have a loaded firearm or similarly dangerous weapon) you should probably kill them, or at the very least attempt to disarm them and remove any possibility of hostile action being initiated against you.

 

If you believe that another player is behaving in a suspicious manner, shoot them and bug out. That's generally my course of action. Of course, you shouldn't be afraid to be courteous and offer aid to another player, especially if they need it. But don't go out of your way for them, especially not if it's going to make you vulnerable. After all, Dayz is fundamentally about survival. Those who are too trusting of others generally don't happen to live for very long. Don't forget that.

 

Also, to answer your question, keep the other player at a fair distance (10-20 meters away) be sure that there's no cover they could easily manage to flee behind, or foliage which could obscure your line of sight, (and thusly your potential for a clear shot) make sure they have their hands raised at all time, make sure they remain stationary and state the consequences of them not doing so. Handcuff them, if you have the tools to do so. If they are silent for any great length of time, assume that they are using Teamspeak and communicating your position to their buddies. Like I said, be very careful to strip them of any potential advantages or potential for resistance they might have. Maybe rob them while you're at it!  :D

I never help people. Interaction with strangers is a first step to the grave. I usually tell them only once to get lost. If they don't turn around and run, or worse, start derping around, they get a bullet to the face.

It's nothing personal. Just the risk is greater than reward.

My advice to the OP - throw the "friendly?" mentality out the window. Always think in terms of gains and losses. Ask yourself the question "What's in it for me?". You'll survive the longest.

People share stories like this primarily to expose the ridiculous attitudes of people like you who somehow think engaging in PvP while playing a game which includes PvP as a primary mechanic is "acting like an asshole."

 

If you really feel so strongly that fooling someone into thinking you're friendly only to kill them is a "douchebag" thing to do, then you're in the wrong game. And I don't say that lightly. I don't like people who troll around telling people to "go play Farmville" or whatever, but this is genuine. I genuinely feel you will not be happy in DayZ if this kind of behavior fills you with such angst.

 

Understand that this kind of player vs. player interaction with deceit and murder drama is one of the reasons this game exists. When Dean says he wants to hear interesting stories, these are some of those stories. Consider for a moment that Dean's favorite story from the mod was one pretty much exactly like this, where a guy lied to people in order to drag them to their deaths:

 

Hall revealed that his favorite story was that of the black widow. "There was this girl who would send out an SOS message over global chat by voice, so guys could tell she was a girl, saying she needed help in a church," he said. "So the guys would come in and she would shoot them and loot their bodies, and he'd post the videos of it on the internet. That to me was just brilliant."

 

Brilliant, okay? Notice he didn't say "That guy was a total asshole and should uninstall the game."

 

Notice he didn't say "That guy was ruining DayZ and he should uninstall it."

 

Notice he didn't say "I can't wait to implement ways to stop this behavior."

I saved him from a bandit and escorted him to balota, when we got there I heard "dumbass hero fag" and then got hit by about 15 as50 rounds, lost my dmr and coyotee backpack

It pisser me off for a while but don't let it get to you, best thing is to just send people on their way once you've helped the a bit and never tell then where you going to leave them until your there to avoid an ambush

There is a difference between fooling someone to gain an advantage, and herding fresh spawns to kill them with axes. The former is PvP, the latter is just pure griefing which is present in some form in all online games.
