How often have your shot somebody because you don't want to loose everything?

How often have you shot somebody just to stay alive (and not having to start from scratch again) and not because you play (or are...) evil? E.g. when you come around a corner or enter a building and see somebody with a gun and have no time to seek cover.

One time i was in Elektro with my friend,fully geared on the search for painkillers.We heard a gunshot near the hospital,and when we entered it we saw a player who were yelleing he was friendly. We decided to kill him because we thought he had a gun.Because of bad communication my friend shot me instead(pretty dumb :P).The guy was still alive and i was uncouncious.My friend shot him so the guy couldnt decide that my gear was to shiny.not to take. I feel pretty bad for it.

Once. Happened after a server restart, I was going through the residential blocks above cherno when I noticed that some of the buildings have their doors opened. Which simply meant that there was someone there. I've spotted him at the school and he must have seen me too as he took cover. I went around, climbed on the high building so i saw all the exits and the roof top clearly. And then he came out with an m4 ready in his hand trying to get a view of me at my old position. Shot him twice with my mosin and saw his body sink into the ground.

 

Normally i don't do this kind of things but I've got killed there before on my 4 day char. Didn't want it to happen again and I made sure that I wasn't getting shot in the back.

If im in a military loot area, rule of thumb is its KoS. If im in the wilderness or in a random town or city ill run around some corners and yell through direct chat.

Countless times this happens to me:

I mostly loot with a comrade.  For some odd reason, I'm always the first or only target.  When someone is spotted closing in on me, I take cover and try to de-escalate the situation.  "You don't want to do this man."  "Just keep walking" 

They'll either not respond or ask questions like "how do I know you won't kill me?"  I'd always respond: "If I wanted you dead, I'd have done it, or would kill you now."

Either way, they would keep closing in until I'm forced to kill them, or have my comrade kill them.  Stupid KOS players.

What I am mainly aiming is when you suddenly encounter somebody who can shoot you easily in that situation within two seconds; where trying to communicate/de-escalate can be your death. When you want to be 100% sure to keep your precious equipment, you "have to" eliminate the potential thread even though you have not started the game/session to kill others.

Once. I roll around with a survivor playstyle. I stay away from military bases. Managed to loot a Mosin and some rounds for it. I have a medkit, backpack full of canned goods, 2 canteens and 4 tin openers. I figured there's not much more to do so I went to Zeleno to find friendly players who need tin openers and food. Then I saw this fully kitted guy, by his movement looked to be scavenging for food. I thought that was my guy. Turns out he's deaf, blind, and dumb (not sure with dumb). I said helloo in voice and typed YO. But he's deaf and blind so I followed him into one of the houses, expecting he'd exit through the back door. Big mistake, he went to one of the rooms and I'm now between him and the exit.Tried to communicate via voice and was pretty sure he'd hear and see me this time but he still appeared to be deaf and blind. He went to the corner of the room and even proned to peek under the bed. At that point I figured guys like him would freak out when he sees me and shoot on sight. I didnt wanna turn my back cause he has an m4 so I waited for him to line up with the sights on my mosin. He popped through the door but then I missed. He ran around the room like a maniac, he exposed his body on the door again and I popped my mosin. Misfire. No rounds. He unloaded half a clip on me when I was crouching then another half while I'm already dead. lol

I guess my backpack gave him a merry-xmas. But seriously how the crap do I reload a mossin? Before that little skirmish in Zeleno I knocked down a couple of zombies just to get a feel for the gun. Not sure if it's a bug on the Mossin's reload (I've seen a post about it) or there's a special way to reload guns in this game.

If I'm on my own, or in a group with any military loot it's KoS time unfortunately. Unless the player's not well geared, then it's torture time.

 

Other than that, it's usually a friendly hello and goodbye as I run past with about 4 other people. People don't wanna piss off a squad of combat ready survivors.

I don't carry anything I'm not willing to lose and its not like anything is irreplaceable.

 

I tend to just make myself scarce or if they have a go, I'll have a go back at them.
