Easter Eggs? Aliens? Mysteries? [Official]

Yeah, I don't think there's anything wrong with adding in the crashes yet either.

It's a bit of a sidetrack for this thread I guess but I went ahead and made a reddit post about the topic.

I never post on reddit and learned that formatting sucks on there, and my post turned into a bit of a wall of text.

I definitely agree with you, and think that it's generally how things should work.

But I just don't think it's the right time right now. There's not really any advantage in running an M4 (or presumably an AK, haven't tried it) versus a Mosin. So whatever weapons they could make specific now, it wouldn't really justify any advantage that they give.

I mean, it is perhaps more applicable to attachments. Because they actually can add capability. But weapons now aren't as varied as I think they need to be in order to justify having some be full-on rare and only found in certain areas. That and the weapons, like DMRs and such, will be regulated once the loot system is up and running. So it may not be wholly necessary right now (although would still be beneficial) to have certain weapons be spawning in certain areas.

Now, granted, they could work with what they have. I don't want to see M4's spawning in office buildings anymore, so they could theoretically move them fully to airfields and barracks. But that's pretty much all they could do.

Until, and if, we get things like DMRs, LMGs/GPMGs, SMGs, and full-on sniper rifles, I just don't see it being worth it at this time.

Plus, I think the overall abundance of weapons in-general (as they've not balanced the loot) is the most detrimental aspect at this time. If that could be curtailed, as to be more in-line with the mod, then perhaps it'd be a good stop-gap approach until they build up a more robust "high-end" stock of weapons.

That and there's a lot to be said about the efficacy (or lack thereof) of what you're proposing at this time so long as things like server hopping for loot are still unmitigated.

My guess is that the crashes are simply being implemented so they can have the system ready for later on, rather than because they actually want to go further with them at the current time.

And I certainly hope we don't start seeing guns like the SVT-40 or SVD being extremely rare for the simple reason that they are (or can be used as) DMRs. Chris Torchia stated on his Twitter that no "7.62mm DMR types" would be added until centralization is added, but that's a very vague statement considering that a DMR is usually just a regular sniper rifle/battle rifle/assault rifle re-equipped for longer-ranged shooting. Hell, technically the SKS with the PU scope is a DMR, but we've got plenty of those.

Now, if you want to argue the rarity aspect, obviously the SVT would be considerably rare compared to the Mosin/SKS/AKs, as it had a limited service life and fewer were produced than the latter weapons, but the fact that it shoots a slightly larger 7.62x54mmR bullet than the 7.62x39mm really irks me as poor reasoning for making it much rarer.

Well, I'd assume that the SVD/DMR would do more damage than an SKS, simply by virtue of firing 7.62x51 in-game. I'm not sure if it'd be that big of a difference, but I think they could be made different. Plus, I'd assume that SVDs and other dedicated DMRs would be able to mount something a bit better than a PU scope (i.e. a LRS).

I don't really care much for the "real-life" aspect of rarity, and am more concerned with how certain weapons should be balanced in terms of the loot tables as to justify their power.

Granted, I agree with you, that Torchia's statement isn't really what I wanted to hear. I personally think the only weapons which should be limited by the loot regulation, are weapons like anti-materiel rifles and such. Even LMGs aren't all that great, as to justify them being hyper-rare and limited.

The rest can be mitigated just by tweaking the loot percentages as to make certain things markedly less likely to be found (i.e. DMRs) than in the mod.

*Pulls hair out* So, I had found some badass Gorka military pants that I have NEVER seen here or in Reddit. Also, found a Black High Capacity Vest like the one shown in my previous topic about it. And a bundle of other stuff BUT the server restarted....and made me lose all my gear. Except for my brown jacket and the three books I had in it...

Might've been the Gorka stuff, it's on Reddit now and is pretty badass.

You're absolutely right, I just feel like it's one of those "simple" sort of changes they could make now to make the experience more interesting, and then tweak later.  However, I understand this is totally not their development style for the alpha, they like to implement systems and don't really care for balancing, that comes later.

I do think that there's a large group of current players though that love them an m4, and there's enough people that would make that effort to go get one.  I'm not one of them, I like my shotgun or mosin, but most kitted out crews I run into are almost always using either m4s or scoped mosins.  I think the novelty of the AKM being new would also draw people to go out west to find it.  While I wouldn't personally go there for the guns, I'd go to fight the guys who do.

I slightly disagree that there's no advantage using either as well.  All the guns are lethal and it's highly dependent on the player, but there's something to be said for having an m4 with 60 round mags or the incoming akm with 75.  A mosin is better for sniping of course, but shorter range the assault rifles do have the upper hand objectively.  That said I did kill a dude rocking an infinite ammo mag m4 with a 1911.

We'll just have to wait till content gets added I guess, as you say.  I do hope eventually they go for something along those lines, I really don't want to be finding anti material rifles or LMGs in schools =P

Could sign and that huge concrete lid hint at underground caches?

OMG I did not think of that. *Falls over at how great that hint was* But, why add a date that is so far into the timeline of DayZ? Wait, what is the year of the timeline in DayZ? Isn't it 20+ years or something?

Thats very weird. xD

Actually guys, someone just found out what it mean't. "Up until 23.04.2014, on this place, stood a terrain glitch - Pyramid. - Senchi" It's a elaborate joke by Senchi. It used to be that pyramid that stood up in the terrain, so thanks Eduardo, sorry for being derpy. ;_;

Why don't you try placing one of them gas light things on the south side of the structure circle thing and sit in the middle and constantly spin your mouse around.

EASTER EGGS.

In all seriousness though, It was confirmed that there would be a sewer system, I believe.

So it was a reference to the pyramid all along? I figured judging by the little drawing in the corner on the sign. Neat! Glad I got some good pictures of the pyramid and showed it to a few of my friends before it was gone.
