Nesuma (DayZ)

Why do you "have" to feel bad for being a bandit/kos?

Recommended Posts

buy what else? could i ask? what other game is like dayZ? we only want it to be as good as possible. we don't want it to end up as another deathmatch.

But how should it? The only way for it to become a deathmatch game are servers giving you a pistol and ammo when spawning and functions like respawn everywhere

It's a survival game in the first place and that's the way I play it, watching out for bandits is a side effect making the game less humane. For me bandits are the bad guys, maybe a reflection of their character or a lack of imagination. Most people do not think you're cool.

Uhm so you think that in a real apocalypse everybody would be buddys? There would be lots of bandits (really not me, woudn't open such a thread if I'm that cold hearted).

Did i say that I'm cool? :D

Did I say you said you were cool? ;) Nobody with common sense would expect everybody to be buddies in an apocalypse, you don't even have to have an apocalypse for that. But I don't think the way Dayz is played is a reflection of how most real people would act in a real apocalypse, the % of bandits would not be that high as in this game. And that's because a lot bandits in Dayz don't really care for the survival aspect, they're just going hunting for people thinking they're predators. In that case increasing the zombies won't help very much sadly. Maybe you would act differently in a real apocalypse, allthough your first post seemed quite enthousiastic about hunting people.  :)

What DayZ taught me as a bandit - don't get attached to gear. If you are bandit then you are ready to die a lot. Take only what you need, what is essential. Because greed kills. Too much time over fallen enemy and you are dead. So yeah, I played as a bandit mostly for PvP sake alone.

Cherno and NWAF? It was a best places in the mod for me because people knew where they headed to and what to expect. Paying for fun is one thing, but being partypooper is another. Even if you are a bandit. And who will fight you anyway if you always kill everyone without letting players to properly gear up first? You will end up sitting alone in empty server or serverjumping. And both equally sucks.

I guess people upset about KOS because they want to socialize but they can't. And its not a bandit's fault. Go find your own group, join gaming community and earn your reputation as dependable person. Not as ingame character. Expecting friendly welcome from a complete stranger in a game like DayZ is just plainly naive IMHO.

Bandit does not equal KOS'er champ.

I'm more of a bandit than you'll ever wish to be <3

Are you pulling the realism card regarding KoS.

If humans behaved like they do on here in the real world then we wouldn't be on a forum talking. Humans have a tendency to work with other humans more than they do to just murder each other.

If two men are struggling alone in the wild and happen upon each other, they're not going to try and be sneaky and kill the guy, they're going to yell "HEY!! OVER HERE!!" and figure stuff out.

I'm fine with bandits. It's just the losers who try to kill everything that moves after they server hopped the gear they need who then try to call anyone who disagrees a carbear that bothers me.

Want to kill everything that moves? Wasteland has the independent "faction" just for that and it truly is a deathmatch where you can snipe from 2km away.

Without any KOS players the game would lose not only its realism, but also that sense of danger that keeps you immersed. I don't play like that generally, but there are situations where I'll shoot first.

I wouldn't feel bad about it, but if the best thing you can think of to do to another player is shoot them you're not being very creative. You can rob people, scare the shit out of them, hold them up, handcuff them, force feed them rotten fruit, send them out in front of you as a decoy, or do a Balota fight club type of thing. Shit, I've forced people to listen to me sing. It's a sandbox game, and how interesting interaction is is totally in the hands of the players. It takes more balls to interact than it does to just shoot.

I try to play as a more interesting encounter, and if I think about somebody talking to their friend the next day about the crazy experience they had in DayZ the night before it makes the risk worth it. Worst that can happen is I'm back at the beach with something to actually do again.

KOS as your blanket philosophy just makes your own experience that much more uninteresting in my opinion. It's not wrong at all though, just a little unsophisticated.

Well, I think it is really intenstive to sneak upon a player and wait for the perfect moment and hope that nothing happens.

And with the PVP shooter, games like cod/bf3 etc. are something extremley different (no gear and losing and these epic things). In DayZ you don't want to die, you play carefully, you CARE for yourself. Dont compare these games, dont be that guy.

I'm not comparing the games. On the contrary, I'm saying they're completely different experiences, which is why you should play the one that has the experience you're actually looking for. It seems like some people are trying to force DayZ to have a CoD/BF experience, and I don't think it's in their best interest. If they just want a high kill tally, why not go to the game designed for that?

Again, I have no issues with bandits. I don't have an issue with PVP. I just think it's cheap for people to go along the coast and kill everything that moves for no reason other than to kill them. In my opinion, those people aren't actually looking for a fair fight. They want easy and numerous kills. They don't want action - they want a guaranteed "win".

I'm intrigued. How would you stop people from suicide or logging during that performance? In all my encounters only person who actually wanted to interact was some "guy" with chil'd voice. Who begged on the verge of crying not to shot him because he collected his gear more than two hours. Our group felt so unsettled and disturbed so we gave him almost everything we had and moved on. And that's it... No interaction whatsoever in my whole expirience of DayZ mod. People log or shoot, nobody risk to do anything else.

Most creative thing I expirienced in DayZ mod was community wars. Now that was a blast! Raiding camps and all out wars during holidays and friendly collaboration in preparation during workdays evenings :)

You might be right, and maybe some bandits choose Dayz to go hunting people exactly because it isn't a shooter game. Maybe they're looking for victims, not soldiers from the opposing army.

Anyway to me it's part of the game, if I get caught or killed it means I wasn't stealthy enough, in DayZ SA I've only been killed by illness, servers and a wipe so far. Still I don't like bandits, especially the ones who don't even try to be creative.

Have absolutely no problem with people playing this game however they chose to. Whether you are a hero, a survivor, a bad guy, a bandit or just a complete a**hole it makes no odds to me nor does it affect my game, nor should it affect anybody else's.

Player interactions are and always have been the most high risk, high tension aspect of this mod/game, without knowing if you are going to get shot in the face, handcuffed and robbed, stripped down to your boxers and sent walking away or on the flip side helped, just for saying "Hello" is something that makes this game everything that it is. Everybody should be playing this game as if every single town/village visit for loot, every sighting of a player or every time you risk talking on direct has the potential to be your last. It is down to you as a player to minimize that risk and get what you want without having to end up on the coast.

I will personally never kill unless somebody attempts to kill me first and if you ask me for help you will get it, but that is just the way I chose to play just as others chose to play with a completely different mentality. However If you want any kind of respect from me personally as a player you will either play in a similar fashion or you will be a damn good bandit that knows how to control and manipulate another player without ever having to fire a single shot.

Man!

I wish I knew which of you were this friendly/cool when I spy you from a shrub. :(

I honestly have little inclination of playing with randoms right now unless I somehow feel 100% safe from KoS, which I never do.

Here's how I feel about KOS. I honestly would rather hook up with other players, especially now in the standalone, in order to try out the new blood system and what not. But the fact is, I've been shot in Cherno after asking about a can opener and shot in the back at NWAF with no warning at all. If I see a group of players, I observe and move in the opposite direction as fast as possible. If I see a solo player, sorry fella, I have to assume that if you had seen me first you would have killed me. I learned my lesson quickly. It's kill or be killed at this point.

I should note that my current character is almost four DayZ old.

Here's my kill list:

Fella hopped into the same military building as me in Zelenogorsk. I felt bad as he was just spawing in but upon inspecting his gear it was blatantly obvious that he had been server hopping. He just got greedy and hopped one time to many. I ruined all his shit and gained almost nothing except my life.

I was monitoring the new shipwreck from the hill cautiously planning my approach. A player came running in. He had a mosin and I watched him for a while. He set up on the bow of the ship and began watching the tree line with gun drawn. I'll let you assume what he was up to. I shot him in the back from 400 yards, had my M4 zeroed to 400 just so you know, he combat logged instantly or his body disappeared any way.

I was inside a military building at NEAF. My character is moaning like crazy for some reason and when I heard a player enter on the first floor I assumed he would hear my moans and be extremely cautious. But no, he came running up the stairs and I filled him full of lead. His body, was pulled out the building by unseen forces and when I went outside it was still moving away from me. I gained nothing from this other than my life.

Not sure if these explanations help, but I thought it may give insight somehow into why experienced players in the North do what they do.

EDIT: There was a time when I wouldn't kill. In the mod I worked very hard to never kill any players. My goal was to be a medic and it worked most of the time. Hopefully, I'll still be able to live that dream in standalone, but man, once you get the taste of blood, both from being killed and killing, it's hard to resist. My heart hasn't beat so hard when playing a game since the early days of the mod. It's awesome so far.

I won't KoS, solo or group and I'm an "experienced player".

It doesn't matter to me that you would shoot me in he back.

I will exit a building full of loot to avoid an altercation or completely move on to another town if I see you from a distance.

I still like looting, hiding, killing zombies.

It does feel like a fine line between KoS and griefing at times but I always remind myself "alpher/only a game", not worth the rage, not even worth this venting here....

:P

Great that you have friends what want to play this with you but I don't have anyone that's intrested in playing this with me so I'm forced to either play alone or with steam friends I don't know in real life. That's the fucking reasing why.

Oh and btw, you seem like a new player? By the time they have 4000 zombies running on one server and gun sounds luring them properly you won't killing players for fun anymore that often.

And when they do in the aplha I'd rather have them running through buildings than getting stuck on them to prevent it being to easy once again.
