Issue will be solved as soon as they make it so you character stays around for X amount of time after you log & yes In a perfect world bans all around for these people but like others have said a few of these do have genuine issues.

With a simple timer this huge exploit will be solved. Every time you either log out from the server or you lose connection with the server you will still be in the game for 1 minute. During this time you will be able to get killed. This should learn people to log out in save areas in a forest or so.

As said already, the point I made was you don't ban someone for logging off, no matter the situation, you ban someone for cheating/hacking, combat logging is pretty lame, and people keep saying it "ruins the experience", however, its all game mechanics, banning is not a game mechanic.

They introduced player death if you log off while unconsious or while handcuffed, that becomes game mechanics, itd be the same thing for saying to ban people for logging off while handcuffed, its just stupid, most extreme punishment for combat logging would be instant player death.

All thats needed is a "player remains on the server for X seconds" and block them from connecting during that time, for a quick fix, have them die instead.

If I was to try to design this mechanic, I would have a timer when you go to the menu, like in the mod, but instead of preventing you from logging out, itll let you click the button, and pop up a warning: "If you force disconnect you forfeit your characters life, continue?" <Y/N>

That way even if they alt+f4, kill the process, or even pull their network cable, itll just kill the player, and if you have to suddenly go, you have to accept the death.

If you wait out the timer, then it will let you log off properly, so if you manage to get away and hide its fine, chances are they wouldn't have found you anyway.

People are not dismissing the issue of combat logging, they are dismissing the fact people seem to think it warrents a ban, and with it the way I mentioned, there is no "getting around it".

No!

I think Combat loggers should be forced to relog into the server that they just logged out of within a small time frame, and be handcuffed.

If they do not, then there character gets deleted and they are on probation.

I can proudly say i have never combat logged.

Although i think banning someone it a little extreme.....

The new rules state:

Design: players who disconnect when unconscious will die
Design: players who disconnect when restrained will die

This will eliminate a fair amount of Combat logging but not all...

Adding to an already enormous pile of responses.

While I don't think players who just quit whenever they're in a tight spot should be /banned,/ I do agree that something has to be done to make sure players can't easily do it. I think the dev's are already working in a combat timer?

Combat logging is a problem, but it's the dev's fault, they can make a system like in the mod to prevent combat logging, players will always exploit the game, you don't ban someone because you didn't make what was needed to prevent what he did.

except for hacks, which is more complicated because even if you fix it, it will come back, combat log won't

banning people for that is completely stupid, remember that it is an alpha and i'm sure an anti-combat log system will be implemented in the future

right now it is a test, there will be combat logging, hacks, corpses disappearing, and all that kind of stuff that will be fixed in the final version of the game

tl;dr: those saying yes are either really butthurt about combat logging, which is a problem i agree, and that makes me angry sometimes, but it's a test, don't expect to play as you would in the mod, or they didn't understand that it is an alpha

Not sure if serious, or just trolling, in case serious: character death, not deletion(that would imply no corpse), however you can't force people back onto the server once they decide to log off, just punish and all is good(though not a ban).

This is a vital mechanic, and I am pretty sure Rocket has mentioned it already, there will be something to prevent it.

If you haven't heard of what Rocket said about server hopping, one possible method he mentioned was having a timer that counts down when you disconnect from a server, if you server hop, it gets doubled, he threw out figures like 30 seconds as a base, but that can easily be adjusted if its not enough.

30sec -> 1min -> 2mins -> 4mins -> 8mins -> 16mins -> 32mins

Doesn't seem like a lot, but that's just a possible mechanic, same goes for combat logging, they won't leave it as is, it's just a matter of when, not if.

Those saying no are either stupid, or guilty of combat logging themselves.

I say absolutely yes.

This guy has it right

personally, I think you should just die on sudden DC, irregardless. I run the game off tethered 4G and get dropouts, but it's still better to die than see combat logging.

i saw no, only because so many things can appear to be combat logging. Such as net issues, computer issues, and other things.

don't worry, this will never be implemented, people that ask this don't know anything about bans, and who deserves it

you are banned from a game only if you cheat, except for a few exceptions

but combat logg is not part of it, it is an alpha, if you wan't to play DayZ, play the mod, here you are testers, anti combat log will obviously be implemented so stop whining.

right now it's not, and it sucks, as well as no vehicules, as well as bugs, as well as characters wipes, as well as a lot of things actually, but it is an alpha, deal with it.

asking to fix combat log is legit, but asking for bans ?? seriously guys are you out of your mind ?

Hi, I voted NO.

I don't think I'm stupid and I never do combat logging; I think you are stupid for insulting other player opinions.

I think it must be fixed instead of punishing the players.

Ways to fix combat logging

  • Cant log a few meters near other players
  • Takes a few seconds to log out
  • And the stuff they just added where you die when handcuffed and log

Maybe banning on the first offense shouldn't happen. But adding a timer will only help so much. Combat logging is still more then possible if you can find ~30 seconds of safety.

I think just a permaban is kind of a light punishment, they should be visited with in the week and slapped.

Combat logging was easly fixed in DayZero mod of Dayz.

You had to wait 30 seconds for log out timer and if you logged out sooner or disconected, your character dummy would replace you in game for 2 minutes and could be killed.

Until there is no log out timers then you can't really ban people for combat logging.

I think 10 second for your body to stay behind would be better, a lot can happen in 1 minute.  The exit timer is a stupid idea. I hated it in the mod.  Body staying behind for 10-15 seconds is much better.

Absolutely yes. Exploiting game mechanics is the same thing that cheating, so, there's no doubt here about this. The last 3 fights I had they combat logged to avoid losing gear. I mean, what's the big deal about loot?. They were trying to kill me, they lost. So why can't they get over it and face it?. The cherry over the cake, the last one logged off after calling me faggot. Seriously? .
