Clearly this is physically wrong.2. While Axe is fine the bat and shovel (maybe others I don't know) do little to no damage to the zed requiring many many hits. What I would like to see is a left click swing and hold right click block next auto attack with some negative like longer recovery time before you can swing or block again. You can clock someone in the head with a fist and knock them out for a moment. Baseball bat is similar. Axe will straight out kill to the head. I axed a guy who pointed a Mosin at me in a building. I had seen him coming because of his flashlight then he heard me move, pulled the gun and raised it. I was going to say friendly but he raised the thing up to sight along it and I decided it was too late for that. Chop! Would have been a bit less ironic if he had had bullets or maybe spoken to me? Hit them in the head, while they are down and getting back up wail on them. Same thing for the crowbar. However, I am not sure the shovel should have the same effect as it has a blade edge or a blunt side depending on how it swings. bumwithguns 2 Posted December 19, 2013 ok let me tell you why the melee system is bad, from the point you swing to the point it makes contact with what ever you want to hit you cant move or it will hit what ever you original where swinging at. meaning if you swing at a moving object you will never hit it. the only way to hit something is to hit a stationary object. and in this game players and zombies don't tend to stay in one place long enough for you to do your swing motion. i can fully understand that if you swing with a object inbetween you and what it is that you want to hit that it will hit that instead of what it is you wanted to hit. I actually find the melee system to be quite good already. I never hit zombies stationary, and find it quite easy to hit them while in third person and running diagonally. It of course isn't perfect yet, but "perfect" isn't to be expected in an alpha. The majority of players agree but the vocal minority defense team on this forum is going to flame and troll this thread until it dies or is removed. As this guy has admitted to not having bought the game in a post already, and doesn't plan on buying it, I'm not sure if we should take anything he has to say about the mechanics of this game seriously, as he certainly lacks any qualifications to comment (hasn't played the game...). It looks like the engine just cant deliver a proper responsive melee system, where zombies/players stagger after a big hit or your axe will pin into the zombies body after you hit them, it will just never ever happen to dayz. I honestly think its the engines or the devs fault not achieving this, and I of course cant blame them since I dont know better. We get big ass maps, but just not the realistic feel we all know from other AAA titles when you stick a knife into your opponent or chop his head off. Sad but true. And dont tell me it is alpha. Things like this are build on the base functions, way before alpha. Alpha/Beta is for tweaking and testing. What we see now is what we get even in full release tbh concerning melee.
