Charging people money to help you "make" a game....

Recommended Posts

Yeah... read maybe a paragraph before I had enough of your condescending garbage.

2/10 would not recommend reading.

its called a BAD BUSINESS move to sell an alpha game.

after the games been in alpha for 2 years, on the same Bohemia company.

what the hell were they doing for 2 years, this  new release should have been a MAJOR step forward...not backwards

2 years ago the mod hasn't even been released. Yet again you make yourself look stupid by posting nonsense. Get your stuff straight before starting to post.

You are exactly one of those people who should read my post and actually try to understand it....

ITS BAD FUCKING BUSINESS (PRACTICE) TO RECYCLE A GAME EVERY YEAR AND SELLING IT FOR 60$ WHEN ITS STILL FULL OF BUGS. (From a business point of view, it's genius of course).

They didn't sell you an alpha. They sold you a game, just like in crowd funding, with the big difference that you can already play it while development of that game is still under way.

And it was a major step forward, you just can't see it yet.

Explain how it's whatsoever a step backwards? Also, no it is most certainly not a bad business move to release and sell an alpha game. You basically bring in revenue and get people to test your game for you and work out the bugs. However, people in this community seem to be too stupid to realize that what they're buying is an Alpha.

rocket warned repeatedly not to buy the game if you want to have a ton of fun. It even said it on the fucking store page for Christs sake. People who bought the game and are now complaining about it in ANY negative manner that isn't constructive, are in my book a special kind of stupid.

I bought this a few minutes ago through Steam.  I know what state the Alpha is currently in.  I bought it as an investment for myself.  I know that I want to play a polished game, and I can save money by buying it right now.  It's up to me whether I want to help test it.  I do.  I also did the same thing with The Dead Linger a year ago.

"Hey this house doesn't have a dishwasher in it! This house isn't as good as my old house!"

"Um, the foundation was crumbling in your old house and you had tons of mice as well as the basement flooding all the time. This house has a solid foundation and I realize we let you move in before we got all the light fixtures up or the carpeting in, but it is nicer than the old house and we will still get those in for you when we can."

"Yeah, but my old house had a dishwasher and this one doesn't! This is unacceptable, what have you been doing this whole time?"

Rocket said he would never make a game that you couldn't try before buying or he would quit the industry and that the standalone would only be 10-15$ at full release. They shouldn't be charging anything yet never mind double the price that they've been talking about the whole time especially considering they've already made their big money off DayZ Mod by it bringing their crappy military simulator from 10,000 sales before DayZ to over 2 million sales for Arma 2 exclusively from the mod.

The reason it costs anything at all is because Rocket doesn't actually control anything anymore. They've already made tens of millions off the work of basically 1 person now they're just trying to squeeze everything they can out. Welcome to video games in the twenty-first century.

They already made 50-100 million USD from DayZ franchise. You think Rocket wanted to release the game in the state it's in at the price point it's at?

Very good analogy! Was trying to come up with something similar, but I'm too tired :D

I only read the OP so I'm sure this has been said.

As long as they take my $30 and everyone else's $30 and use it to finish the game,  and I get to play it when it's done,  I'm a happy camper.

Anything that I say negative about the state of the game is more to state an issue that is going on and to see if others are experiencing the same thing.

Where are you getting those numbers from?

That "crappy" military simulator made all this possible btw.

many, many games get released as gold with bugs.

so basically, just about any game out there has bugs and needs to get fixed.

how is it a major step forward when the MOD is more stable? hmmm>?

Rocket's mouth and basic math.

Rocket made all this possible btw not the "game" that only had 5,000 players left in it before DayZ came out. There are other games you can mod.

True, but I can't think of a single one with this kind of massive scale.

To actually do basic math, you'd need some actual numbers, which I don't believe have been published publicly. 5000 Players left... basis?

50-100 million dollars of revenue? Again, basis?

They only sold 10,000 copies of Arma 2 before dayZ came out.

Cost of game x number of players - if everyone of the over 2 million bought Arma2:CO when it was on super 85% off 25$ sale they still would have made over 50,000,000$. Most people bought it at 30-50$.

You can probably guess what's next right? 10.000 sold copies of arma 2,basis? ;)

I get what you're saying. Yes they made money through arma 2 sales because of dayz. But that's basically capitalism 101.

If you want to complain, complain about dice taking 15$ for 4(?) maps, they recycled from bf3. That I call a ripoff, not paying for an alpha like dayz

This thread is kind of like a support group for upset fans.

What's wrong with support groups? :D

This forum, as well as reddit and the steam community page are full of whining, and this thread is intended to show these people that their whining is kinda absurd because everything they're whining about was known beforehand.

Everyone knows how humans are... Lets just  hope this won't affect the dev team, and they continue to do the amazing work they are doing.

Its kinda pointless you try to change people minds, at least, expirience shows me that in some cases is better not even try, trust me. Like I said, we can only hope that rocket/dev team knows how to deal with this situation and wait them take the right decisions.

Our job (really alpha testers) is to find/discuss what we think is relevant to make a better game, the true alphers knows that this will take time.

DICE didn't say their DLCs would be 5$ then release them before they should have for 15$. Also has nothing to do with this game DICE didn't make BF4, have it sell no copies, and then just magically have millions of people buy it one day not due to anything they did themselves and then turn around and release the DLCs well before they should have   in a broken state to cash in on the sudden popularity they did nothing to earn.

This game isn't even an alpha yet; core mechanics are not even in place like the actual loot / zombie spawning system, the UI, etc... If you think Rocket wanted to release this game in the state it is currently in you're silly. This was a CEO dolla dolla bill decision. And yes I know what alpha means I'm friends with quite a few game devs and have worked on games myself. You don't release an "alpha" for your game to test for bugs on your placeholder code and mechanics when you're planning on changing pretty much every aspect of it which is going to make all the bugs you're fixing mean nothing.

They are now wasting time fixing bugs on stuff that isn't even going to be in the game in a month.
