is it night everywhere, i am finding the initial experience of the game being at night a bit disorientating.

having only a flash light is making me a bit sea sick,.....

 

also, i have a can but cant open it, do i need a can opener or knife to use it . ?

As the Headbob was said already (to be found in "Gameplay"):

 

You need to find a can opener - it's fairly rare.

 

You don't nap - it basically means you're either thirsty or hungry - or both.

I love DayZ at night, adds so much to the atmosphere and suspense. I just wish people couldn't boost there brightness to kind of exploit

Yes, you need a can opener. There are some pull tab cans to be found. You can also use the combat knife to open cans.
