December Round-up: ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ GIVE SA

Recommended Posts

Ah, ok. So building traps, repairing cars, treating wounds, creating clothing, crafting things not skill based.

Aiming, driving, running skill-based?

Fixed. Again, applied to certain things. Not everything. Driving and running occupy a middle-ground where they're both procedural actions and based on player input.

Have you ever tried to shoot with a real sniper rifle to a object which is about 300 m in front of you? I know, i can't talk about reality because it's a post apocalyptic game but if they want some realism ingame they should use a skillsystem.

It's like you see a zombie first time in your life, you have no clue how to kill that son of a bit**, but after some sucessfull  kills you get better and better.

It's just my personal oppinion :) I like the idea that i'm getting strong the longer i live. Because you need a long term goal, if u haven't anything to improve, why would you play this game for a long time?

Look at the mod, if you got everything, you start to think about whats the next step. And there were only 2 things you can do... become a bandit and hunt players down oder become a "hero" and help other players....

Dito.

I was just saying that the character ingame should not be compared to the player. What the player is capable of does not matter for the character. If the player is an ex navy seal sniper, it shouldn't mean that his sniperskills ingame are perfect.

What I meant is that the skillsystem contains: making a fire, repairing, treating wounds etc.

And what the skillsystem does not affect is: aiming as it is player skill based.

We need two different words for skill... maybe the players expertice or abilities and the characters skill?

Actually they said that there will be no limit on the alpha copies they sell on steam.

Also, hype is not what I am asking for. I am sick of anticipating a game that I consider will be amazing and then being disappointed each week it isn't released and there is still no word on whether or not it's coming out this year!

Well, you should occupy your brain with something else. Maybe other games... Come back here in a few weeks and maybe we have some good news for you.

Rocket already stated they can't speculate about release dates. It's bad for them and it's bad for us.

Which is why I am referring to the things "that the skill system contains" as procedural actions, as everything up there (as per the mod, and seemingly the SA paradigm of an action menu coupled with a fixed animation) falls into that category.

Yeah but i mean that you can get some bonus if you increase the skill of sniping. As example: A beginner sniper can't assess how far the target is away ifrom him. A advanced sniper should've a "little helper" which shows him the approximate distance of the target. Something like that would be nice, or the wind direction and so on... i think those "little" things help alot.

No, the player's ability to assess the target's distance should come from the player's actual experience playing the game.

Ok, than something like for holding the breath longer. There a thousand of ideas, i don't like it if a starter is lucky and finds a sniper rifle and than hunts down full geared players. But yeah that's DayZ ;D

Rangerfinder is a must have in my opinion. especially if you have bulletdrop and this bullet shot-fly-time-thing.

if they dont want it directly on a sniper scope then plz put it on the telescope so u have more fun in a team :D

You don't need a rangefinder to calculate your distance. Real snipers know how to do it with their scopes. Also a map and knowing your position is very effective.

This. From personal experience, visual range estimation is one of the first things you learn as a soldier. Also, speaking from in-game experience, There is NOTHING more satisfying than playing on a hardore server (no waypoints), and using the map to estimate a range before landing a clean hit. That's what makes this game truely beautiful.

Agreed. And it gives the advantage to people who are willing to put in the effort and use some real skill, and takes the advantage away from trigger happy KoS kiddies who just happened to find a sniper rifle on the ground.

Nobody is ever equal in DayZ. The one who has the better weapons wins. The one who is better in aiming wins. The one who sneaks behind you wins. There is nothing fair about survival. And there never will be. Survival is about the exact oppisite thing, you have to find the most unfair way to eliminate your competition. That's life.

So, real life skills? Since when is everyone able to aim a weapon perfectly where he wants? Since when is everyone able to make a fire within 5 seconds the first time he does it? Since when has life absolutly no value?

This guy spoke for me exactly.

[rant]Why everything has to be fair? I mean really. If you outsmart a hideous bushwookie after hours of standoff, why i cannot sneak behind him and stab him in his eye? Its not fair to him, but its name of this very game(not literally ofc).

Fairness doesn't belong in the survival of the fittest. Use more brain and less mouth, then you gain success. If you don't know how to beat someone, find a way. If you make a mistake, learn from it and do it better next time. Moar FPS moar cores to threading... Useless if you don't know anything about, surviving. IN GAME WORLD... <- Real world aside in this conversation.

[/endrant]

ps

That wasn't attack to anyone. Just general thoughts about life and stuff...

So the only thing so far to report today is that on the server watch site, the server map name has been updated to weapon bug which means they be testing and dealing with weapon bugs right now. Cool. No new update to the steam DB is a good sign too, but yeah, other then that, we just wait and chill, for a possible update on their progress today. :)

The silence before the storm begins!

I hope you're right! although I've heard many people say that it won't be untill after the holidays, so that the dev's can tackle upcoming bugs right away instead of leaving the game broken over christmas. Makes sense to me. I still want release this weekend though :P

As a dev you don't really have a "holiday" ^^ That's the dark side of this job... they will have to work on many weekends if they release it. But we will see, i hope they get it out before christmas, that would be the best present ever :)

It would be. But as I said, I would understand them if they said "alright, we got the alpha ready but we'll wait till after christmas" Couldn't blame them :)

But yeah, pre christmas release would be the shit :D

EDIT: btw server and steam db update :)

[bored]

it would be nice if there was any long-term motivation/goal... which is not eliminating the sandbox thing. i can't think of anything and i hate it.

[still bored]
