[SA] Getting rid of vehicle indicators

Recommended Posts

Idea is to get rid of the indicators that tell the health of the hull, engine, fuel, and tires. We could replace the indicators with certain sounds and feedback. I.E. You start the car and the engine is knocking. This means you should probably fix the engine. You look at the car and the tires are deflated. This means you need new tires. The body is scratched and dented. Then it needs a new hull. You check the tank and it's leaking fuel. Well you need a new fuel tank.

And for the fuel, I'd think it would be fantastic if we had to rely on watching the actual fuel gauge in the interiors.

I like this as long as they completely remove the mechanic of cars blowing up

If I crash my car into a rock its not going to explode.

just saying.

agree with both of you, the realism element with vehicles would be great and cars should only explode when they are attacked with some form of explosive.

Like it shouldn't despawn. If your car breaks down in the middle of the road it's usually a several tons heavy block of metal in the middle of the road, until you manage to find something strong enough to move it or repair it.  At least once wheels are gone. If it's just out of fuel you might be able to push it, several people involved of course.

Well we actually already have working gauges foe fuel f.e.. Maybe they can add some dash lights but they need to make some detailed interiors first.

If you crash your car into a rock that might be your least problem imo. The car would be totalled and maybe even you. But they really need to get of this stupid mechanic, prolly just a line in the vehicle config or you can add a script so it doesn't self combust if it is all red.

Well dean is going for more visual elements in the game with blood and that, so maybe that's why we won't have games at the alpha release, I think that cars sitting out in the weather should have the tyres all cracked from the sun and if the battery is still connected it shouldn't start up. If anyone has tried to start an old car what hasn't been started for a long time the battery will be dead 9/10 times.

I see where your getting at and it's a good idea, but kinda far fetched. It takes quite a while for the tires to dry-rot. I'd say approx. 1-3 months of not moving at all. Way out of reach for dayz. And the battery having the ability to die if you were to leave the lights on or any thing else that uses electricity but here's one problem. Vehicle parameters don't persist through server restarts. You'll notice if you turn your cars lights on and leave them on, when the server restarts, your cars lights will be off. In other words: Before server restart VehLight=1.0; After server restart VehLight=0.0. This means the car might not have enough time to run its battery dry.

Six hours of lights will easily flatten a battery.

Besides, aren't we talking about spawn in condition?

Spawn in condition? I can easily see this idea being plausible. But the tires won't rot in the time that you may have the car. And I would not like seeing a sped up process. It's already bad enough as it is with the food. A normal person eats 3-4 times a day. An average dayz survivor eats 3-4 times an hour. You get my point.

They should have a couple different models for each vehicle like they do now, only instead of "heavily damaged" and "blown up", they should have "30 km/h frontal collision", "90 km/h frontal collision", etc.

Would be more work and more models, but worth it. I doubt SA needs the huge amount of vehicles in ArmA, less but more detailed. Agreed with OP. You shouldn't notice your car is leaking gas/whatever unless you look at the dashboard indicator and realize or step outside and see a puddle, etc.

What if something UNDER the hood gets damaged?  A "pop the hood" feature would need to be added to see whats going on.  I guess for fuel tank dmg you could just show some leaking fuel.  Good suggestion.

Yes, that tire rot thing should probably never happen.

I'm not saying tyres rotting in the time you have the car, but as in the fact we are all playing as an survivor just dumped at the beach front time had passed and cars sitting over time the tyres from the sun root so when you find the car you find it like that. And the battery been flat should have a 50/50 chance if it been flat maybe. I hope their isn't 3 person view to see if you have an trail of fuel, but I like the idea of having to lift the hood and check your oil and put your battery in maybe

I'm all very hmmm bout this.

I doubt well see any vehicles that weren't ditched by players 3 days after they're implemented if we stop them exploding.

In that case even adding tire rot texture...

Totally agree, but what's even more important imho is to remove ALL UI from the game. Including but not limited to health / damage of a car. No magic kompas or speed indicators on top of the screen. No health bars or fuel indicators. Of course the cars will come later in development so there will be enough time then.

what about proper gear shifting? clutch key, and +/- gear keys.

Oh god, YES PLEASE! Not only will the americans be introduced to real driving ( B)  ) but it will also be easier to drive at a certain speed. Not these either 110 mph, 80mph or standing still commands. Make proper gears! This would also allow for faster offroading, given a suitable terrain!

Maybe.

I can imagine stalling because I'm crapping myself trying to speed away in a firefight.

Most players can't even drive a car safely over the roads of Chernarus or whatever map they are playing on...you want to give them even more work to do??

I'd love to have an extra action in order to start a vehicles instead of just pressing a button/flipping a stick etc. I saw this in one of those ww2 missions i played with some people the other day.

Gears would be very nice. Another thing that would be nice is a more controllable throttle. Right now you have two main choices, no power or foot down...

You should be able to adjust the level more smoothly and easily.

They could have cruise control with the + and -

My dad's car has cruise control on the wheel, it's pretty cool.

My car doesn't have cruise control :( but my keychain has a penguin.

you actually have two speed settings, if you use the sprint key your get some extra power.

I used to play Euro truck sim, after a little while you barely think about your shifting, but i think it's a good skill element :)

I was thinking the same thing although not an actual cruise control system.

Yes, but both are pretty limited tbh.

I was thinking, for example, perhaps pressing the throttle (up arrow) gives you full speed, like now. However, while keeping the throttle depressed, you could easily adjust it with +/- to your preferred cruising speed, either a slider or one of a few options. Releasing the throttle would drop the gas and also drop the setting (next time you press throttle, you'd be back to full speed).

This would let people use the cars like now but also give the option of slowing down a bit, without getting stuck in a slow setting if they need a fast getaway.

Gears, though, are something I consider a necessity... it only adds to the gameplay and I doubt it would be difficult to implement if they are redoing vehicles from scratch.
