hey guys been thinking about this for a while but never really going to do anything about it but though i should release my ideas to the pulic so here goes:

 

MEGA MOD

 

description: pretty much epoch,aftermath,origins, dayzero and dayz 1.8+ combined to make a awesome mod with a few additions

 

features:

-Epoch, all features and all items from other mods added to traders, rust auto lock for building things

-Aftermath, apart from the rarity of good loot

-Origins, everything including map support, base building works along side epoch and aftermath base building

-Dayzero, skins, fps boost and enterable buildings, prodagorsk

-Dayz 1.8+

 

Other features:

-bank of chernarus: has random amount of gold and silver, break into vault using satchel charges or hack in which takes 5 mins, alerts all players and spawns 100 zeds

-armaguard truck

-nissan 350z car pack

-breaking point weapons

-Dayz mini mods: self bb, auto refuel, tow/lift, basebuilding 1.2, halo jump, drink from water source, debug monitor, my custom map, Sector FNG inland, cctv cameras

-radio use for heli crash locations, foldable bikes.

 

just an idea that would be awesome in dayz

What good is gold and gems to me?  Also I can see the experience I would have already if all the dayz maps were combined.

 

LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAG (unless...you have one of THOSE computers)

Nah. We don't need this. A lot of people hate the concept of Epoch (Including me), simply because having safe zones is not fun.

I don't understand the insistence of some players in trying to turn DayZ into something that it's not.

There is a point where it's not forcing someone to play the way I want them to play but instead play the same freakin' game that I am playing if they want to call it 'DayZ'.

Safe zones, bank heists, gold + silver, CCTV cameras.. none of this crap has a place in DayZ - it's meant to be a survival sim, not GTA or Saints Row.

agree with narkoman and rossums, this wouldn't be a good idea for a number of reasons - the main two being that epoch and stuff already suck and that DayZ should be DayZ, not DayZ Theft Auto Yolo420OMGoneeleven

There are no safe zones in Epoch by default, this is jsut something server owners code into the server. Thats part of the balance of traders, yea you can get gear and raise funds to get more and better gear, but it's not safe! In fact it's meant to be very risky indeed.

 

Oh and back on topic - OP: yea you may have thought about it for a while but the reason you, or anyone else for that matter hasnt done it yet is because it's massive project that simply does not work.

Just shows how good the Arma 2 engine and the Dayz Mod is.  People are thinking of new things to do with it.  The only problem is that they can't detach themselves from the zombies.

 

I'm a not big fan of Epoch but from the amount of servers online it is popular.  Whether purist like it or not this mod seems to pluck a cord with the masses.

I have thought about this since i wrote my first post, and here is my conclusion: We should remove the zeds. Then we can go full death match on each other.

 

Edit: Ooh! We can also make every player spawn with a rifle!

Just shows how good the Arma 2 engine and the Dayz Mod is.  People are thinking of new things to do with it.  The only problem is that they can't detach themselves from the zombies.

 

I'm a not big fan of Epoch but from the amount of servers online it is popular.  Whether purist like it or not this mod seems to pluck a cord with the masses.

That's the problem with Epoch.

New players join it and think that's what DayZ is - the vast majority of servers don't even play real Epoch, they take Epoch and add in safe-zones which totally defeats the purpose in the trading zones (They were meant to be areas that you had to risk your self to gain the ability to buy/trade/sell gear).

DayZ was never meant to be easy and appeal to the masses and that's what made it great - no hand holding, no instant gratification and no tutorial to ease you in to the game.

Players that join now never get to experience what DayZ actually is, they just treat it like another run-of-the-mill sandbox game like Minecraft and take all of the challenge from the game.

A worryingly large percentage of the community could just leave and play Arma II and would notice next to no difference other than the lack of having to run indoors or into a tree every now and then to avoid zombies.

Mods have destroyed vanilla DayZ. Thank goodness they aren't allowing mod in the SA. I hope they never do. Every feature they implement in the SA should always be vanilla. Mods will inevitably split the community across private hives thus evaporating the scarcity of items, undermining global item economy, and generally just turning the game into a giant PvP "all weapons on spawn and instantly find a vehicle instantly" clusterfuck.

I'd rather have a dayZ that only offers Melee than a dayZ that offers all the weapons, traders and rest of the stuff stolen from arma2 mods....

 

It's survival. There should be at least 5x as many items to ensure your survival than there should be guns. Ammo is the first thing that runs out in an apocalypse...

rossums hit the nail on the head again. it's sad to know that the majority of new players these days won't get the same kind of long lasting thrill starting new on this game used to give, the paranoia and immersion just aren't there in mods like epoch and origins and such, the player interaction is all but gone now rendering voice comms virtually useless, the excitement and value of finding a weapon or especially a vehicle doesn't exist because you're basically born into a helicopter with 18 DMRs in one hand and 42 M4A3s in the other, i could go on but i won't - you all know what i'm getting at.

Poof. You start to hack into a vault and YIKES, 100 zombies suddenly fall from the sky and rush your way. We already have flying survivors with rainbow hack farts, lets keep the realism we have control over to a sane number.

EPOCH DOES NOT HAVE SAFE ZONES!

Now some idiots have set up Epoch servers with safe zones but vanilla Epoch does not have them. This is like saying 1.8 sucks because some people have servers with tanks on them.

Yes! One of the scariest moments I've had in Epoch was when a bunch of friendly survivors were warily trading goods at Klen and a plane started circling it. Then we heard the helicopter and here came a Little Bird loaded down with bandits who started hopping out and shooting. We scattered to the winds my partner and I going one way, one of the guys getting gunned down, and the other racing off in another direction while we covered him a bit from the edge of the woods and then ran.

Epoch sux. Honest opinion of mine.

As guys said:bad idea. I dont think zombies burn coal in power plants so you could hack into a bank. All the mods destroying dayz, maybe apart from dayzero, in one... sick mans idea. You simply dont put everything in one. You want to run and gun you play butterfield, you want to build a fucking house, you play sims, you want to play trading and doing quests, play Skyrim or whatever.

Explain to me one thing, why would I need gold for in Apocalipse...become a dragon?

Shame on you for such idea!

Please, fresh players play vanilla first, then try mods.

I literally just said everything people said before me but who cares.

You lost me right here. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE some of those weapons they make me drool. They problem is that I eventually realized they ruined the game. ACR G33 SD had me running around popping zombies left and right and there was a version that was SD with a grenade launcher. Some smoke and HE I didn't even carry a pistol anymore to make room for grenades. Now I could kill zombies with one silent shot to the body, do significant damage to other players either scoped in or using a Holo sight, AND really rock the house with HE grenades launched from it if things went south. They guns were awesome, but too awesome for this type of game.

Without the zombies those ideas would be awesome..well it's like Chernarus Life, Wasteland, ZSB, GTA, Payday etc....but sometimes too much is just too much.

Yes, all people should start with Vanilla and then branch out to other mods if they wish. I agree there.

Gold in Epoch is simply a trade medium. Meal Chits in certain situations would work just as well where one chit that can't be duplicated easily(probably made of a rare metal or some such nonsense;) ) would be the equivalent of one meal.

You can hate Epoch all you like but it adds another dimension to game play. Once you have gathered everything you need to survive you don't go, "What's next? Hmmmm.. shoot bambies on the coast I guess." You go, "Okay I need cinderblocks and for that I'll need a vehicle. So next up is some wheels." and then "I need a place to store my cinderblocks so I'll get a safe... holy crap are they expensive... I'll need to loot a tons of things to get that much." Then, "Okay I have a vehicle and safe, now I can loot building materials. I best roam the map and see if there are any supply drops and hit any helicopters I find along the way. Guess I'll head in the general direction of the factory." 

Epoch gets people utilizing more of the map instead of Coast, NWAF, NEAF, Stary. Gathering supplies, looking for a good spot to build something, and more get people moving. Helicopters do not spawn in X locations and cars do not either so you have to actually search for them.

Yeah but won't any type of precious metal or gem be of no worth when there is nothing behind it? I mean it's just a piece of gold ingot that has no equivalent if you have don't have a currency or state backing it up, like how you can use your >put currency here< bills as toilet paper when the banks go bankrupt. It's just printed paper in the end. Trading would rather go into bartering instead of exchanging play money. Sure if it's worth something to someone is has a value but who wants to have a pile of gold ( ok i guess there will still be idiots who will do just that ) instead of having something in his stomach.
