Initially a good idea...but how do you intend to hunt down a person who has the ability to jump from server to server...? Any thoughts about that? I haven't heard that the SA will prevent server hopping and loot farming ( yet ). One way is of course to make the gear persistent to the server it was looted.

If you hang someone they die instantly. They break their neck from the small fall.

I'm sure it would occasionally happen. But it shouldn't be in this game for obvious reasons.

Only if you hang them properly.

Fat people can be decapitated by their own weight.

Skinny people can choke and die if they don't fall far enough.

It's a little too KKK for my liking really.

There are plenty of ways to kill in DayZ, without hanging.

*Bonus: Listen to the album "Those Once Loyal", thank me later.

Epic brutality, grooving with Satan. Chick bass player has bigger balls than you.

Agreed. This is just another way to promote PvP which again, is not what the game is, or ever shoud be, about.

in a way it will decrease kos though. now you have even more of a reason to capture some one alive.

Nobody is talking about KoS. I'm talking about PvP. You still end up killing a player, so the result is the same.

This is a good idea. Things like this could be implemented once we have restraints and non-lethals. Maybe once you've cuffed someone you can move them around against their will. Restraints should keep players in game as if they were afk if they try to alt-f4.

At the very least we should be able to string up corpses as a warning. It would be really satisfying to incap a bandit who is attacking your base and as he's bleeding out you drag him over to a tree and yank him on up there.

Unfortunately I think almost all of your ideas would have this game banned in many countries. There's a lot of bad blood around lynching in the US especially. Dead Island even had to change their logo art for the US version, because it depicted a silhouette of a man hanging.

I think the game is about PVP a bit. Many of us are 'versus' each other, competing for loot and sometimes things get nasty. Sure it would be great if many of us worked together, it would be more interesting.

But this hanging... this is just sick.

This isn't even a feature, it's just something that players could choose to do.

Besides, forming a lynch mob to go hunt someone down is not an effective strategy at all in a modern, post apocalyptic world;

large groups attract a lot of attention, meaning that the person you're after, as well as zombies and other players will easily notice your group. Besides, you wouldn't be using pitchforks, and ropes, and torches. You would likely just shoot the guy.

Just because the game is in the post apocalypse does not mean that we need this game to be the 'SAW III Torture and Horrible Idea Simulator (With zombies) 2014'

This sounds like a form of bullying. Keep me in game? What if I turn my PC off? This may be fun for the two or more players who have caught another player but surely it would either be very distressing for the victim, or just boring? What if I took a day off work to play DayZ, stole some beans from your tent and you tied me up? I wouldn't stay online for hours pleading that you don't kill my character and let me go. I'd create another character and go merrily on my way.

Stringing up corpses is a good idea though, I agree with you and the OP that hanging bodies, dead ones, from trees or posts would add atmosphere and serve as a warning to certain types of players. Yes, I can see how it wouldn't 'wash' in many countries though.

I'm not saying it shouldn't have PvP at all. I'm saying it doesn't need to be PvP based.

I see the distinction OfficerRaymond... I'm on the fence because I enjoy the feeling that a bandit might get me at any moment if I'm not careful.

Maybe if small settlements were formed, death by hanging could be a form of punishment

I really hope the standalone won't be the same shit over and over - spawn, get gear, go up north, die

I'd like to be able to try to get civilization running again

KoS could you get an english speaker to proof your posts one of these days? You seems to be bubbling with ideas but it's a torture to actually read them.

It's an interesting idea if anything. I just grin from ear to ear thinking about organizing public hangings of bambies :)

What are you talking about? This is the current system which already prevents combat logging on many servers. It ensures that people don't simply escape from dire gameplay scenarios by exploiting the fact that they can just quit.

You might as well argue for combat logging. The idea isn't to force your game to keep running. That is impossible. It would keep your character in game on the server for a while, as if you are AFK. Read my post again. The idea is not to permanently keep your character in game. Again, that's ridiculous and basically impossible. The idea is to prevent you from exploiting your way out of a PvP situation.

Seriously, combat loggers are the scum of the earth and it is not a behavior that should be tolerated in this game. It leads to other exploits like ghosting and shit.
