I've seen a lot of posts in this thread proposing ideas that are outlandishly ridiculous, but this one just blows the rest out of the water. Don't have admins? Seriously? That is the equivalent of saying "there are crooked cops. Therefore we should have no police force". Ok, have fun playing with all the hackers then. You know, the guys that commit admin abuse without being admins.

To be fair, I may be slightly biased in my opinion because I myself am an admin. However, I am a responsible admin. I turn off all tools while I am playing the game as a regular player. However, I will occasionally sit somewhere far away from other players and spectate them to make sure they are abiding by the rules. Most of the time everyone is playing legit but I have caught a few rule-breakers here and there. I have even spotted people walking right past my base and done nothing about it because I only knew it due to admin abilities. The community I am involved with has a hierarchy of administrators that are accountable for everything we do. Rarely, we have had a few player complaints in the past and accountability has been enforced. At the end of the day, however, all players are appreciative of our efforts and our server remains free from major hacking and cheating that you see on other servers.

The point is that you just need to find a good server to play on. If you trust the clan/community and they prove to you that they are responsible with administration then they deserve a higher player count and you will benefit from this as well for not having to play with hackers. However, if you find a server where the admins are teleporting to you and nuking you and whatnot, you need to leave so that their playercount suffers and they eventually shut down. That is just how Darwinism works in a server setting.

the thing is why should you have the power over other players if you playing ? you shouldnt. no tools that show players live , no spawning of loot no nothing that can be abused.

get your donations fair enough but lets not have any chance of abuse. it can be done pretty easy and i hope it is. as said previously if the devs arnt going to comment on whether this stuff is going to be locked down no sale from me and i love the game ! its rampant in the mod and if it goes over to the standalone it will be aswell.

people cried about stopping cheats but dont want admin tools removed which basically gives admins legit cheats !

lock everythnig down with no leeway then there is no ifs or maybes.

Arma 2 (and 3) are made to be modded. Hell, without that DayZ, Wasteland and many more wouldn't exist.

To make mods the ability has to be there to spawn items/vehicles and see player positions.

To stop this in arma 2 is impossible, admins having the tools to keep this in check is the only way. Unfortunately some abuse these tools. Some people instead of improving at the game and crushing their shortcomings have chosen to run their own server. They are shit players and if they rely on admin tools to win then they will get worse at the game.

SA is said to be released on a major public hive which will be controlled by BIS. This will hopefully mean responsible admins.

If the SA sever files do eventually get given to the public and private hives return then unless steps are taken to curb abuse it will be the same.

As a suggestion how about a thread in the server section where we can list reputable servers and admins for all regions.

no either do allow it or dont allow !  thing is you cant tell who uses the tools to there advanatage or not. alot will say no i dont use it even if they do how are you going to catch them out?

this is why alot of cheats just though hey well just run our own server we cant get banned and we can do the same = profit !

it isnt even hard to lock down doing it. also now its standalone there is no relation to the mod and no need to mod anything. keep the two seperate and lets just have a fun legit game again.

for all "Official" hive-Connected servers the rules imposed by the DayZ staff

If you are found breaking the following rules, your server will more than likely be suspended at most server providers and if it's not suspended it will result in the entire ip range being BLACKLISTED by DayZ support staff.

1. Your server must follow the DayZ name convention.

DayZ - Location ID (version/beta buildnr) [difficulty][timezone] dayzmod.com - hosted by Customtext.

2. Your server slots must be 40 slots minimum.

Please also note no server provider is allowed to provide servers below 40 slots. However there is an exception for developing countries or countries where bandwidth is expensive, for those countries minimum slot count is now 30.

3. Your server must not be password protected or locked.

BEC connection flood #lock is allowed but must be set to no more then five minutes.

Servers may also be locked briefly before scheduled restarts, again, this may not exceed five minutes.

4. Your server must have BattlEye = 1; set within the server.cfg.

(as of 1.7.2.4 the hive will not allow you to play if this is set to 0).

5. Your server must have reportingIP = "arma2oapc.master.gamespy.com"; set within your server.cfg.

6. Your server must have requiredBuild = replace with newest beta build; set within your config file.

7. Your server must have verifySignature = 2; set within your config file.

8. Your server must have kickDuplicate = 1; set within your config file.

9. All server problems must be reported to http://support.dayzmod.com.

10. As a server admin you must not:

You are not permitted to ban players for killing yourself or clan members.

You are not permitted to shutdown your server when your killed.

You are not permitted to shutdown your server when you lose a vehicle.

You are not permitted to kick or ban for smacktalk.

You are not permitted to ban for suspected cheats or exploits, you need solid evidence, IE logs.

11. You are permitted to kick or ban for hate speech, including racism and homophobia.

12. You are permitted to kick or ban for cheating/hacking/exploiting that is affecting players in a server-disruptive way, providing you have solid evidence.

13. You are permitted to kick for illegitimate weapons/items not intended to be in the game, however please remember, many players do not and should not be expected to know every item that is legitimate and as such we would prefer you do not ban for this.

14. PVP is enabled at all times no matter the rpg element the admin tries to set.

15. Do NOT request un-necessary instance IDs, location IDs, or whitelisting from us. If you abuse the system all of your servers may be blacklisted.

16. Private Hives are allowed however we may not be able to help with problems relating to them, any issues you have with these servers should be reported to the server owner.

NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS OR WHAT SERVICE PROVIDER YOUR WITH THESE ARE THE RULES PLEASE ABIDE BY THEM.

Personally, Having admined on an official server I have a HUGE problem with this. Bottom line is unless rocket/BIS are going to eat the full tab for hosting every server the communities and individuals paying for servers need to be able to

1. Provide things such as VIP slots, kick for donors, etc. THEY PAID FOR THAT SERVER BEING THERE. NOT JONNY PUBMASTER. GET OVER IT. QQ MORE.

2. Run 3rd party Logging/Detection/antihack software on the server.

3. Choose dedi box provider of THIER CHOOSING and install the game/mod. not a selected "hosting partner" who will no doubt have inflated rates.

4. ban on suspicion. heres the bottom line- That clan/person/community is paying good money and ALOT OF IT for that dedicated server and all of its DayZ instances to keep running. they should be able to foster an environment of THIER DESIGN AND CHOOSING. seriously all of you people who constantly QQ need to get over it. THIER MONEY. THIER SERVER. THIER PLAY GROUND. IF YOU DONT LIKE IT DE-POPULATE IT BY LEAVING AND LET IT DIE.

I think you completely missed my point.

Don't have servers hosted by private individuals. The servers need to be hosted by Bohemia or something else or else there will be someone who will abuse the system on their server. Despite being an official hive there are many people who can't handle the temptation to use whatever level of access they DO have to influence their game play. During SA start it will not be on privately hosted servers and that will eliminate "admin abuse" because the "admins" will be either trusted volunteers who will not want to lose the privlege of working with the DayZ development team or getting actual paychecks for their efforts not some "dude" who dropped $30 for a server and feels he is owed some advantage.

maybe stick to arma 2 mod called dayz its straight up your street where no rules are forced.

people want a fair dayz. standalone isnt the mod its a standalone project.

you know why many admins are scared and want the tools kept ? MONEY ! MONEY ! MONEY!

they stand well some to lose alot of money every month from selling gear they dont own. they want this to continue

once a few more realize they wont get those donations now they cant sell packages to people they like wooooh the golden goose has laid its final egg im screwed !  good !! you own nothing you have no rights to what you sell to people. if it would of been in public server most servers would of been banned by now !

please rocket and co dont bend over to admins on this ! this is as bad as cheating in many players eyes. fair enough admins having donation but not selling gear and not having god power over game and a big NO to live maps showing players . i cant even get i have to argue about that its so blatently obvious it actually hurts my head at those who thinks its okay to have live streaming 3d maps of people playing.

Like I said- have the Developer/Publisher host the servers then. If you cant have any benefit from Owning/hosting it then thiers no reason too. Take my ****ing 60$ sell me a a finshed product and you rocket, pay for the servers out of your proceeds.

If im not garuenteed the 100% right to kick a player to make room to play on a server IM PAYING FOR, im not gona host one.

futher more I wont donate to any server that doesn't offer slot/kick for doners. and encourage all members of my clan and others to do the same. either dayZ devs host the servers on their own dime or let those paying make the rules. period.

I'd be happy if BI made it a $5 a month subscription and eliminated privately owned servers.

I would just never go on again and put a forum topic stating the server name and to stay away from it.... Maybe there is a blacklist forum for those kinds of servers?

How to stop admin abuse?

Don't play on servers where admins are asshats. If everyone did that then they wouldn't last long, but sadly, people do.

_______________

In the OP's case, abuse may or may not have taken place, but they were dicks. If you want admins with some decency, then keep hopping around until you find a server with admins you like.

For me, if an admin is rude, abusive, and/or cheats, then I point out why I'm leaving over sidechat and leave. Simple as that.

All the "if I pay I want to decide"-posters all come back to the same issue. Servers need to be marked as what they are.

Some people want the vanilla experience, some want custom stuff. The problem is, when you have to join a server and play for several hours to find out wether you chose the right server or not.

If people have the option to select a server that represents what they want to play, there is no problem with it. But if I cannot find the couple hundred vanilla-servers because there are 10.000 "pay for free gear"-server out there, I get annoyed. I don't mind them being there, I just want an option to blend them out in my personal List because I would NEVER play on a server where anyone gets extra gear. Be it because he played for it or payed for it.

I want the information, wether the server is hosting the game I expect or Some abstract version of it. When I pay money for a game, I couldn't care less about what server-owners pay and think they deserve. I either play public vanilla or host my own server. All I need here is the option to blend those servers out, that follow a concept I don't want to play.

Other games and mods over the last decade or two have existed just fine without the need for servers that have special perks for the renters.

What do all of us who do rent or have rented a game server look for?  The use of the damn box the game is installed on and support to keep it running.  To have a server you get to call the shots on with friends.  To gain presence or popularity by running a server that is enjoyable for many people and the resulting social kudos.  Is the culture of SELF-SELF-SELF so ingrained now?

What makes a DayZ server renter so special that this isn't enough?  Do people want to buy an instant win?  Why waste the money?  That can be set up on a second hand machine on an average broadband connection.

Are Balota Buddies and their ilk are in the server admin game for buy-to-win?  I doubt it, they run a community enjoyed by many and are more than likely happy with the kudos of their player base.

But I digress ... at the end of the day, with bad admin experience, the answer is simple ... move on.
