Will the release of the single player game signal the death of the modding community?

Recommended Posts

So I understand dayz is a MOD, from a simulation military game called arma.

I also understand that the single player will soon come out, and with that, I was wondering, would this be the death of the modding community?

I large amount of players had arma 2 and arma 2 ao, and getting a mod was pretty much there for free. Unlike other company's,  that crush any modification of their game down with the corporate iron fist saying NO MODS

For example, the direction  the game is going by "banning the AS50 and M107". Many people complain they miss the guns. A simple on off switch would have been nice, but to remove it because someone doesnt see a place for it because its "to strong"

I just see the release of the single player as singling the death of the modding community because I cant even mod, a mod, to get our favorite weapons back....

Single Player?  Standalone is going to be multiplayer only like the mod.  Not sure where you're getting your info from.

Standalone=stand alone=no-one else near you=single player

1: NOT a "single player" game.

2: The STANDALONE is not a mod. It's a standalone title.

3: Yeah. No mods. While mods can be great, they are completely ruining the concept of DayZ. The game is trying to accomplish a specific experience, and when servers are constantly modding the game by taking away night time, adding hundreds of vehicles, spawning players with all sorts of equipment - they are basically just breaking the rules of the game just so they can get higher traffic than other servers. This results in the gameplay breaking down into "DeathmatchZ" and putting time and effort into surviving fall by the wayside.

4: Speak for yourself. Those are not my favorite weapons.

Hello there

The SA and the mod have different directions.

Modding for A2 and or the DAYZ mod will continue as long as there is interest in the game.

Who knows the mod might move to A3 at some stage?

All games and engines have their lifetime but I think both the Mod and the SA will both be around for quite a while.

So, in short. No the release of the SA wont be the death knell of the Mod

So for standalone, we wont be able to MOD dayz anymore? We wont be able to create and make our own post apocalyptic worlds?

Will we really be forced to look for empty soda cans, and such? Whats wrong with spawning people with gear, maybe some people want to make believe they are people para shooting in electro with the halo mod to fight off a disease or something.

What if stand alone flops? There is no gaurentee that it will sell. Then you will have a dead modding community and a game that flopped

Hello there

You seem confused.

The mod will continue parallel to the SA.

No. Modding for DayZ will continue for anyone that still wants to play around with it.

The standalone and the mod are two totally separate things.

Eventually people are going to mod Standalone, but it wont be for a while.  Right now they're trying to keep info to themselves so hackers won't be there on day one.

As salamander Ander said, dayz the mod has turned into a death match due to people modding the game. For example, servers with 2 million vehicles 24/7 day with extra barracks in every town etc. I hope SA will never be open to modding so we can never see what has happened to the mod happen to SA. If you like what the mod has become, then continue to play the mod. Please don't whine about the SA and how you have been:

EDIT: I have no idea why the text above is highlighted in white.^^

If you want that experience play the mod, because thats not what Dayz is about.

Just keep playing the mod if you love it so much, ya' crybaby. Personally, I'm looking forward to a unified experience. Maybe mods can come later, but I'd really just rather see a nice, clean game with a direction and a vision, when it comes to a standalone title.

DayZ Stanadlone will be DayZ - it WILL sell, I can guarantee you that - it's going to be real DayZ though, not the bastardised waste of space that a lot of players play.

Most players would be better suited to playing Wasteland or Arma II, they are not playing DayZ for DayZ which seems a little pointless to me, if they simply want to spawn with weapons and shoot other people there are plenty of games which allow this at a much more refined level.

It will be brutal, it will be unforgiving, it will be DayZ.

This.

I will miss all the scripting and editing and do-whatever-you-wantness of ArmA though.

Not really sure what exactly you wanna discuss here? Singleplayer, modding, sniper rifles, game company policies?!

The SA will not be moddable for one reason, security.  However Dean hasn't ruled out opening up to modding in the future and in the mean time you will still have the mod itself.

hopefully the " standalone is nt modable by anyone other than the Dev team.

isnt this the whole reason for having the standalone and not a arma 3 mod ?

i uninstalled arma 2 and dayz mods because the game is controlled by admins of servers or hackers not many legit servers left.

for me that is why i want standalone for a legit game again and just have fun. i just hope it doesn't miss the sell by date as for me this is this christmas after that sorry im not interested any more . i understand its not easy but for me personally the mod side of it is boring, exploited and the only reason i wait is for standalone. every day that passes is like a little drop of enthusiasm dripping away for what could be one of the best games.

im sure there are others like this and its only natural (fanboys probably flame now ) but im just honest.

as for arma 3 and the mod side of it its already started so if the ball is dropped many will just go onto that and play dayz on arma 3 for free. this loses BI nothing as they shift more arma 3 sales. so its win win for them regardless. thing is arma 3 currently ducks giant ass and i wouldnt touch it with a barge pole. so im hoping the busy devs for the standalone do indeed pull out the fingers and get it released for christmas.

for those already typing its redy when its ready no ! there is like with any product a limited shelf life and the time is growing near for a launch or forget it !

the fact that it's a survival game where you're supposed to spawn with no gear, it isn't counter-strike.

yeah, there is.

Nope, Rocket has said the standalone will be locked down initially but they would like to allow modding later on.

lol so basically the whole cycle of admin abuse and selling gear to your customers begins again.

standalone is supposed to be a single game. why does it need to be modded by others ? if thats the case why dont we all just carry on playing the normal mod? by opening it up to modders your just going to open the gates to all the stuff that is locked down being opened.

some people who run modded servers are getting 500-1000 pound a month ! from selling gear they don't own to people wtf ?

and people want this back in standalone ? wow a new level of retardedness.

rocket if this is going to happen and modding aloud please lock off all the bs that ruins the mods like selling gear loadout serverside tools.

if you going to not do dlc and charge people but allow it in this is even worse.

There is no way it will be moddable to the same extent that the current mod is - it's literally not possible without compromising the security that they put in place.

The current game allows you to directly add scripts wherever you want, this won't be able to happen in the standalone without making the game more vulnerable.

How moddable it becomes is down to Rocket and Bohemia though, I can't imagine them allowing it to get to the extent it is now by allowing administrators such overreaching powers and abilities that directly affect the game.

Just lockdown client side scripting and make sure they can only run server side :)

That way server admins have full control and skiddies can't run anything from their PC

Personally I hope it never becomes modable, if it ever does (which I doubt) I don't think it'll be for a long time to come.
