1.8 Zombie damage

Recommended Posts

I personally think the damage you receive from zombies is a bit much after they added 1.8. I get they are trying to make things harder so you're not gliding though chernarus with no problems and to promote team work but there is a fine line between something being a challenge and something being annoying. On average, from a few tests I have done, I lose anywhere from 500-1000 blood every hit. And someone is gonna say "Well dont get hit you stupid bambi", But after they have fixed attack angles, attack distances, etc for zombies, it's become more than just "dodging" them.

Agreed!  I had one clip through a wall, hit me, and knock me through a wall and knock me out for over a minute.  Taking me from full blood to just about dead.  Not to mention they respawn wayyy too quickly.  No point in taking it slow and picking them off, because 10 more of his friends just showed up.  Then theres so much for survival because food spawns everywhere, and repsawns almost as quick.

You guys are silly.

I've played roughly 10 hours of in-server time since 1.8 came out(and that's a lot, seeing I kind of stopped after 1.7.1.5), and the damage you suffer from zombies feels like a nice, fresh change since then. They don't break your legs, they can make you stumble on-hit, and it doesn't take them 3 solid minutes of repeatedly beating you until you pass out and bleed to death.

Yes, the zombies are buggy. But they can't grab you, nor really do anything as long as you keep running. So I think it's fair for them to deal the amount of damage they would do in 5-7 hits, in one hit without instantly breaking your legs. In my opinion, the zombies are better than what they have been for a long while. Possibly better than they have ever been, but that doesn't mean they don't have issues. Regardless, they should not be nerfed as far as I'm concerned. And they probably won't be, either.

Learn to avoid getting hit, or actually take responsibility for your incompetence in a game that has had the aim to be brutal and unforgiving since Day One.

just fix them so they wont beat your ass through a wall, and everything will be okay, they could do even more damage (even 3k blood per hit) if this was fixed.

They can't do this due to limitations of the engine.

i feel fine with them now..i had to kill them a couple of times instead of fire, move 5m, fire, move 5m..

with a primary i now shoot 'em before going to the loot, to avoid getting cornered and suffer too much damage.

and i noticed that only viral zombies are a rwal treat, normal infected do a little damage..

this doesnt work, seems that for every one you kill, 2 more spawn right beside you, aggroing at you almost instantly...

Well I use the same technique, run 5m, fire, run 5m, etc yet I still get hit...often. Idk if it has anything to do with server connection but I feel after I started playing 1.8, I have been getting hit a LOT more than usual. I usually never get hit to be honest. And its the fact that the zombie is slapping, punching, clawing, etc that makes me not understand 1. How you lose that much blood per hit and 2. How you end up bleeding like someone used a razor to cut open a main artery. Now if they bit you, that would be more understandable, or if they have any kind of sharp object they are holding. But in seeing realistic measures, the best I have ever seen a slap do was knock someone out for a few minutes, and for punching the worst that could happen would your spleen rupturing, internal bleeding, broken bones, etc and those are effects you are likely to see when being punched by heavy weight MMA fighters. Idk, this is just my thoughts on the damage system to make it more of a challenge to not getting bear-hugged by a Z (leads to being bitten and eventual death if you look at shows such as the Walking Dead) rather than being bitch slapped by one while rounding a corner and losing 8-12% of your health immediately.

Well the zeds certainly throw some heavy punches at the moment, but it's been balanced out by food being literally everywhere and blood bags being a common find in hospitals again.

If you want zombies that are easy to kill, go play Minecraft. Personally, I like the fact that zombies are now something to be avoided, I mean this IS the ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE YO? Not a hiking sim, nor a bolemia sim (that's a reference to the amount of food laying everywhere..no? k..)

But in all seriousness, why do people not want zombies to be dangerous in a ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GAME!?!?!?

God, please don't make me invoke the ajaabadger!

Ok, keep the Zombie damage but Atleast fix the spawn rate of the zombies.

OMG NO! If you don't want to see or fight zombies why in hell are you playing a zombie sim?

The way zeds now IMO are perfect. You see a lot of them spread out around your general area, not clustered. So they don't neccessarily give away your position to other players now. They hit hard, so dealing with them has to be thought about. Plus they actually carry less loot drops than before, which is a good thing. I never take anything off a dead zed, due to the fear of infection.

Please, stop whining (yes, whining because to me your posts read like a childs) and learn how to deal with them, everyone else has.

And please realize that not everyone plays like you. And I'm not complaining because it's too hard, i'm complaining because the zombie damage is no where NEAR logical. Get slapped and lose 1k blood. Sound right to you? I'd highly doubt it. If the zombie had a knife strapped to his hand, I wouldn't complain because it actually holds some logic to it now. DayZ is a game that strives for realism and losing 1k blood from being slapped by a blunt object (his hand) seems completely off to me.

Go back to normal zombie damage but zombies should be able to attack while moving, while chasing maybe they should pounce on the player.

My only complaint with zombies in 1.8 is that I sometimes take damage after killing them. Other than that they're as close to perfect as we'll see in an ArmA II mod IMO.

I have yet to be killed by a zombie in 1.8 - obviously you're doing something wrong. You know this game has a stealth mechanic right?

USE IT!

OH NOE

It looks like we are playing a zombie apocalypse simulator.....

.....with zombies!!!!

Zombies need to be avoided, before hand everyone is complaining about how KoS and bandits ruin the game and how zombies need to be harder.

Now that they are, everyone is back too bitching and crying about them!

The devs just can't win!

Stealth mechanic is broken by the way. For instance I was crawling about 30 ft away from a zed and both the sight and sound meters were both on 0% yet he still aggroed. 1.8 has pushed me to start using that mechanic but almost every time I try to use it, it breaks and every Zed within a square mile tags on me. I wouldn't be complaining if the stealth was actually fixed. This is why I stopped playing the mod as much as I use to, because it is a great mod and all, but there are too many necessary things that need to happen that Arma II cannot support.

Then something else spooked him. The stealth mechanic is not broken, just your ability to utilise it.

Just because nothing was showing up on the meter doesn't mean you're invisible, it just means you're making as little noise and got as small a profile as possible,

edit: for dun used wrong words.

Don't rely too much on the visibilty meter like Fluxley said. It's not a game like Assassins Creed or Hitman where an icon shows your visibility which imo is sometimes pretty stupid considering the actors actually have perfect LOS but only because you are using the wall hug mechanic they can't see you, if you don't use the hug mechanic they miracously see you in the same situation lol.

If someone doesn't see you crawling on the floor from 30ft away then they would be blind. On the other hand: yes, the detection system kind of sucks and is difficult to comprehend or explain.

Keep the zeds as fast and strong as possible!

Couldn't agree more with the stealth thing....it works great and does require a bit of common sense. Personaly if I startle a zed im disappointed, getting in and out undetected (especialy if theres a pvp firefight going on) is how I like to play, and gives a real thrill. Tip from personal experience...never lie down when trying to stealth zeds, they can and will spot you and then you will take hits while the stand up animation plays.

A mix of  crouch walk and crouch run can get you in and out of NWA (hangers and barracks) without agroing a single zed.

Shooting at zombies should always be a last resort.

Well... that's how I do it, but that's the beauty of Dayz....someone else may do it completely differently with just as good results :D
