Frytek 130 Posted September 22, 2013 Not sure if already suggested but here goes.Currently, the terrain affects only vehicle speed and sound you make while running. Terrain should also affect the speed you run or walk (you dont run that fast on wet field). But it should also have side effects like a possibility of getting yourself into pain, or screwing up your leg in extremes (running downhill or on rugged terrain). It should also expand into how good your footgear is. The better it is, the faster you run and have lesser chance of getting an injury. On a shitty terrain, footwear should also get damaged easier. Aight, waiting for opinions now.(If it gets into KoS again, please yard it mods)
Guest Posted September 22, 2013 I thought it already affected speed?
Dancing.Russian.Man 1631 Posted September 22, 2013 I thought it already affected speed?Only when going too steep up/downhill.

applejaxc 2500 Posted September 22, 2013 No Yes. Anyway, I know Rocket has said different terrains will hurt unprotected feet and destroy footwear at different rates.
IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted September 22, 2013 Might be a good thing to add on later on, like slogging through mud will slow you down a lot, as well as give a chance to give you say trench foot or something over long periods (if they add hygiene to the game).
Cormyr 39 Posted September 22, 2013 Would be a nice addition. +
Chaingunfighter 917 Posted September 23, 2013 Yeah, this is a good idea.It would also help create incentives to have different footwear or augment people's playstyles; You can carry some heavy and durable combat boots if you're the woodland-wandering hiker, or if you prefer fast travel on the roads then you can wear some sleek and sexy running shoes.
m.w. vindicator 880 Posted September 23, 2013 Running down hills without shoes IRL is dangerous for one's feet. I would like to see this ingame to an extent. Breaking legs would be too extreme. IRL you can avoid small rocks and stuff which you can't really do in a game.

Yeah, I don't think breaking your legs should be that easy (Even as easy as it is in the game now). That being said, treatment for broken legs should probably be rarer (Why is there morphine just lying all over the place, alongside antibiotics, blood bags, and epi-pens?) Also, I'd like the possibility that morphine would eventually wear off so that you would either have to find more or find some sort of brace until the leg itself healed on its own(Which should also be possible) But it doesn't make sense that you can accidentally fall off of a stairwell that's 5 feet in the air and have a broken leg unless you fell awkwardly. SalamanderAnder (DayZ) 1747 Posted October 26, 2013 (edited) Yes. I was thinking about this as I walked up the hill to my car the other day after class. Even a mild incline over a long enough distance can be exhausting, especially when you are carrying a pack full of stuff. I think it would make people think more about they way they move around in the environment. Take the sniper hill above the power plant in Elektro for example. you can just run basically straight up that almost vertical hillside with no difficulty, when in reality, you'd have to plot out your path like - "well I can't climb straight up there, It would probably be better to just go around to the other side where it's shallow." Also it would mean getting caught on the side of a hill would be a seriously dire situation. I don't know if anyone saw this video the last time I posted it, but it's one of my favorites. Notice how once the soldier is making his decent and being fired upon, he doesn't go back up the hill. Why is that? Well, quite simply, he's carrying nearly 100 pounds of gear. He even tries to double back for a second, which is the first time he takes a hit. Going back up that hill would make him a sitting duck for the shooter who is trying to zero in on him, so he has to continue moving with the direction of the terrain to avoid gunfire. joe_mcentire 2074 Posted October 26, 2013 (edited) the more tactics and tactical planning you need to survive the better the game will be me thinks wow impressive videoif he would have played DayZ he wouldn't have exposed himself so blatantly :O Edited October 26, 2013 by joe_mcentire
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) 1747 Posted October 26, 2013 He was probably following orders. I'm assuming they were moving towards an objective when they were attacked.
Skat3rat 1633 Posted October 26, 2013 Off topic here, but I'm always amazed how calm that guy stays under fire like that. I for one would be freaking out and running for my dear life.
Karmaterror 982 Posted October 26, 2013 Yeah, if my shoes being broken is gonna give me a foot injury. Then why not make the terrain itself a hazard. Those steep incline sniper spots could have new risk factors.
AP_Norris 1018 Posted October 27, 2013 I think in the dark on choppy ground you should have a chance to sprain your ankle while sprinting.Changing a bit with footwear though. That's how I sprained my ankle a couple years ago.At first I was like WTF, stooped ground coz I fell over. Then I realised I was pretty badly hurt when I stood up and had to walk back.
