Tried to jump back into DayZ...

what alot suggest recently is a collectig game and a ray mears bear gryliss survival just without killing . thats stupid and boring. if you wanted this why even add bandtis or zombies/infected just make a bear grylis game !

I guess you can always count on dgeesio missing the point of... everything really. No one wants to get rid of KoS or stop people killing each other. Why is this so terribly hard to understand is beyond me. No suggestion so far would make DayZ "a Bear Grylls game", you even said it yourself it wouldn't actually make any difference.

 

I do remember your idea of fun so it's understandable why you feel so strongly about this but I can assure you rocket will not be removing bandits from SA or trying to stop KoS. Making ammo more rare wouldn't make a difference to you but perhaps it would to others. Personally, I think rarer ammo could work, but only in addition to giving players more to do. And if zombies and diseases are a real threat, it could make people think twice before wasting their last bullets trying to kill a guy with nothing on him. Or even if he does have something, trying to kill him without damaging his items. It wouldn't stop people from killing others for the hell of it, but then again that's not what we want either.

doesnt matter about making ammo rarer

 

if one bullet kills with a enfield for eg which isnt hard to do then making 10 rounds to maybe 5 what difference ? not much. say you make it two rounds , i see a guy ill still pop him especially if he has a gun on back say he has no bullets hes still died for the illusion of having gear. so cause you cant see what people have people will always kill people. its the gear and collectiong of items versus time why majority kill people.

 

so you remove guns ill kill with axe. kill with machete it doesnt stop you just limiting gameplay to try and reach a ideal of a minority !

 

fun should be first and overall the game is more fun with the higher end of danger than without.

That's funny because I seem to remember you in the BMRF 1.8 test server sitting on top of Elektro hospital and spamming 'anyone want to meet up at the school?' in side chat and shooting everyone. I also seem to remember someone saying that they saw you at it, went to work, came home and you were still up there.

 

Does that sound like collecting gear vs. time taken, or spending as long as possible shooting freshies on the coast to you?

haha when i was shooting them all it was in a small period i went off and logged back in later and the same guys came back on :lol:

if you dumb enough to fall for it 8 times in a row . who can help you?

 

the actual line was meet at school in electro im friendly . same guy went there 8 times in a row even though he got shot each time. if you think i sit on hospital roof 24/7 i dont know what to say :lol:

Having played Day Zero for the last few months, coming back to 1.8 I'm amazed at how much loot there is. DayZero doesn't even have half the loot you get here. You might get a rifle in the fire station if you're lucky, I found 2 GPS's in 2 visits. Even with less gear on DayZero, KOS is still a problem.

 

I also play panthera on ATF - total pvp, guns and loot everywhere and KOS all the time to the point were people with makarov's are trying to shoot you with an M16 acog from 100m away. Did meet 5 friendly people in a row though funnily enough and we hooked up on TS.

When ammo is going to be more scarce, the zombies could use some nerving. also Hatched will become more sought after then a gun.. So if loot will only spawn once. Will that not only endorse people hopping servers to get good loot?

This game isn't for you. Play something else. Really, there will always be players who KOS, irregardless of what you carry. It's fun to kill people. Get over it dude, this game isn't real life.

Meh. Allow non-pvp servers and a way to enforce it. Let the death matchers fight it out on pvp servers. I for one only like looking for loot and killing zombies and not having to worry about some mega armed turd shooting at me. I'm sure non-pvp servers would be as popular as the pvp ones.

I don't think DayZ is for you friend. Try State of Decay, it's exactly as you descibe and it's quite fun for a former XBLA title.

Thanks for the State of Decay link. Looks like fun. I'll check it out. Also, I'm not hating on dayz that much. I play it every day. Hell, I even bought a t-shirt =)

this is actually a common feeling. I remember a lot of World of Warcraft players preferred non-PVP servers because they just wanted to do quests undisturbed and then stand around with friends talking all day.

 

That was something I could never really understand myself but then I am fiercely competitive, so while I would never be considered a great PVP player in any game, I would always try and improve so that I wasn't such an easy kill for gankers and their unfillable ego. If a player or group of players hung around the area I needed to be in just to gank me, I would go somewhere else. never got camped either.

 

for Dayz though, there are so many superior FPS games that I cannot figure out why someone would want to run around all day shooting every player they see, ignoring the mod entirely.

 

 

ps: being "ganked" in Dayz is obviously more devastating than many other games, but then it would be IRL

easy solution for me: if zombie threat >> player threat, problem solved. imo you dont need to eliminate KoS, just make it harder (risk vs. reward...)

 

Do you notice how nobody commented on this? Too logical for them. Plus, they all want to be able to KoS themselves, just not be KoS'd. The clear and only solution is to stop pussifying the zombies, but no one wants to hear it.

 

Anyone played Halo? You know how you are this guy with some heavy duty, bad ass combat armor and shields? And you know how when a guy gets behind you and hits you with the butt of his gun? You know what happens, you die. Seems pretty ridiculous, yet the game franchise is highly successful.

It was for him, but has been ruined by people that don't understand what the game actually is.

 

Senseless KOS breaks the immersion of the game completely.  The whole infected-chernarus is all about immersion, including the threat of bullets just as much as bites.  If you have lost everything in the world and have no idea why you just washed up on the shore in a foreign land, and STILL you run gleefully toward the sound of gunfire, just hoping to add to it, then the game is not for you.

There is a solution. Fix zombies.

 

I don't mean adjust their damage/speed etc. I mean make them like actual zombies. Making the current zombies harder doesn't make gameplay better because of how they behave. Have you ever seen an enemy in any game thats comparable to these rediculous things? Maybe its not possible in the mod due to the Arma 2 engine but its the biggest problem with Dayz.

 

I don't think the OP was trying to stop kos. Running with a train of zombies behind you should mean that stopping to kill a player for fun is a bad idea. But the zeds are such retards that you can simply run around until you get bored. There's no real skill or tactics involved in beating them, we all know what to do. And standing and fighting is just utterly silly.

 

The zombies have always been shit and if they stay like they are, then Dayz cannot change.

 

I think many people underestimate how game changing it would be to have proper zombies. Look at lots of other zombie games and imagine if you could just transplant them into Dayz. Any of them would be better than what we have.

I don't understand, you say the problem is that zombies are too easy to run around and then say the solution is to make them like "actual zombies" i assume you mean make them slow. that makes no sense.

KOS due to mistrust and uncertainty will always be there.  Changing game mechanics without directly insuring trust won't change this.  I'm not endorsing this but if a two players agree to be friendly then the game simply prevents them from hurting each other.  Anything less than that is just fluff.  Damage to player gear, crafting and actions that require another players simply does is add depth to the game for players already looking to cooperate.

 

That being said assuming we wanted to reduce KOS the one area I would suggest are camping KOSers.  A hill or rooftop camper could care less about game depth changes.  The only way to change the behavior is to make the play style so difficult only the die hard will do it. It is already too hard for me, I'd rather have a lobotomy then sit on a hill for 15+ minutes.  Here are some examples (some very over the top).

 

Make it dangerous to camp:

Zombies will climb up the ladder and kill you on the roof if you fire

Combat log puts a AI in case you decide to abort 

Random monsters (blood sucker or AI) will spawn on top of you if you sit there for too long.  It rips the player a new one, puts a death message indicating player douchery and hides all his gear.  Anyone willing to still do this sort of play style are true sociopaths and congrats to them.  The casual camper will stop doing it.

 

Make it unprofitable to camp (no LOLz):

Have all spawn points be equally good locations.  Right now there are very few and become high value locations for douchery.

 

That being said I prefer the game to do nothing on the KOS topic.  In a world gone to shit it's every person for themselves.  Cities would be dangerous with sociopaths and the only people you would trust are your immediate group.  Strangers would be either avoided when resources are good or KOS if resources are low.  KOS would be the norm.  People are only nice because they can afford to be.  In a holocaust you can't afford to be and thus pure altruistic moments would be very rare.

 

Hill camping is also realistic.  During the wars in former Yugoslavia snipers would shoot down into the city on non-combatants.  People would have to risk their lives simply to go to school or to work.

 

In the end KOS will always be there and players who dislike it will constantly complain about.  Unless you set up a PvE i.e. carebear mode KOS will be perceived to be rampant.  For me I like playing and cooperating with known regulars on the server.  Players who have established trust over days, weeks or months.  Everyone else are not my equal and they shall not be trusted and will be KOS.
