Karmaterror 982 Posted September 8, 2013 Iv thought about this quite a lot, the basic idea is we need some sort of "boss" that needs a team of players to take down. Had a few ideas at first like a zombie in a tank at nwa jus blundering round, but that's not much challenge to just avoid it. Another was a huge hulk type zombie almost like the tank in left for dead, but that dosent fit and departs from the realism of the game too much. I think iv finally got it......a family of massive grizzly bears or packs of wolfs. The idea is they would guard a specific location (could be there den) inside that den is a good number of corpses they have dragged back full of great loot. They would have to be powerfull, fast and have huge hp. I just have visions of players sitting around by the entrance to the dens waiting for other people to show up so they can help eachother. As per usual the paranioa level would be high....arguments may ensue over who wants what loot....and the bandits could wait outside to ambush the lucky winners :) Id do it just as crashsites are done with 5 dens per restart in random places. I feel this would give a proper PvE aspect to the game, and encourage teamplay instead of KOS.
wild_man 4442 Posted September 8, 2013 I hope they put this ;) I wait maybe 600 meter in trees and make snipe after guys bring loots from 10 corpse and make big win  :D
Wolfensteinsaurus 2252 Posted September 8, 2013 I quite like the idea of a type of Apex predator Zombie.
Statik (DayZ) 2695 Posted September 8, 2013 No. I don't really like the idea. Why? I don't know, I just don't like it. Also, bears don't live in "families".

IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted September 8, 2013 Think 'end game' should shy away from super zombies and the like (other than maybe have one really large horde roaming the map that could be cleared out by a group(s)). I would prefer to see things like 'repair the power grid', where one very determined person COULD do it, but it'd be much easier (but still difficult) for a team to do.
Statik (DayZ) 2695 Posted September 8, 2013 ok,ok shoulda checked it b4 I posted....ita a Sleuth...happy now :PThat wasn't my point. Bears aren't really sociable animals. Mothers live with cubs, their cubs grow old, leave. The mothers mate, rinse, and repeat. You won't stumble upon a group of bears in the wilderness.
-Gews- 7443 Posted September 8, 2013 Grizzly bears... well, we may as well have lions. Grizzlies do not exist in Europe and bears don't live in packs. However wolves sounds fun and it would be cool to hear distant howls in the night.
Karmaterror 982 Posted September 8, 2013 Ahha I see, in that case have a den with a mother guarding her cubs, if you drop mommy her cubs have a go but aren't as deadly. Shes the real challenge :)

mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted September 8, 2013 Honestly, I don't think the "boss-fight" idea is a very DayZ way to go about things. :P Just saying.Wildlife should definitely play a part in the game, but not as a way of enforcing/encouraging teamwork. More as environmental "fluff". We'd have wolves and bears entering towns, because there's no "civilisation" (cars, crowds and noise) to be afraid of anymore.Wild boars in the forests should be really feckin' dangerous. As should elk etc. if they're ever added. Getting gored is going to suck. Big time. And if you're wandering around while wounded or bleeding, you'll have wolverines trying to eat you. (nasty little buggers) Not to say that a bear-den won't be sort of a boss-fight. Just that setting it up with that intention is pretty crappy for an anti-game.It's not like bears are renowned for collecting and hoarding treasure.

OrLoK 16185 Posted September 8, 2013 Hello there i loathe this idea, im afraid :) Boss fights really dont fit into the DAYZ ethos IMHO, plus I am one of many players who hates playing with other people. Im a lone wolf so to speak. Lastly I think any mechanic which forces one down a different playstyle to one's own is not really all that sandboxy. Its good to have ideas, keep em coming. leviski 2152 Posted September 8, 2013 While I can agree with Orlok and say that a Boss has no place in the dayz universe I can say that your intentions are well placed. where I can disagree with orlok is putting in some sort of mechanic that would enforce or encourage player grouping a bit more. not a "forced" play style but something to make people want to group up. when I meet a friendly that I really don't know my first thoughts are "how fast can I get away from this guy and never speak to him again without killing him" its not that im a bandit, Im just not a people person in most DayZ situations. h3l1x 327 Posted September 8, 2013 (edited) In anyone is interested, I've posted on another thread one way of having dangerous animals ingame even if they are not native in chernarus. Post is right here, and for the lazy ones it was a thread about buildings and sights we'd like to see added in chernarus. So I suggested a travelling circus and a zoo. Both could have lions, tigers, bears roaming around looking for food. Btw, I'm against bosses of any kind, I'd just like PVE to extend beyond zeds and weather conditions, including above animals, wild boars, wolves, wild dogs in packs etc. Edited September 8, 2013 by h3l1x
Hosty 647 Posted September 8, 2013 Well, as I suggested before, if Rocket adds bears, he should add in a super secret way of taming the bear that is hard as hell to do.Maybe after you tame him he can carry boxes of ammo for you, be your gigantic meatshield or charge at people LULS

-Gews- 7443 Posted September 8, 2013 So I suggested a travelling circus and a zoo. Both could have lions, tigers, bears roaming around looking for food. Ehhhh lions and tigers in DayZ standalone? Seems like stretching credibility a wee bit too far...
mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted September 8, 2013 (edited) The Amur Tiger is a native of the South-Eastern parts of Russia. Where, AFAIK, Chernarus sits. Yeah. So, turns out I was looking at the wrong South-East. Damn, Russia is big. Edited September 8, 2013 by Chabowski
h3l1x 327 Posted September 8, 2013 (edited) Ehhhh lions and tigers in DayZ standalone? Seems like stretching credibility a wee bit too far... I didn't suggest to turn Chernarus into Africa. I just said a couple of wild exotic animals could be roaming these two sights (circus and zoo) since it'd be perfectly normal for them to appear there. Also concerning bears, how about dancing bears? Or for the brave ones, bear cavalry. Edited September 8, 2013 by h3l1x
Frytek 130 Posted September 8, 2013 (edited) I WUNNA SEE PACKZ OF YETIZ AND VIKINGS WITH AK'S AND UNICORNS VOMITING WITH RAINBOW!!!!??!!???!!!Nothing that includes loot or anything like that STOP Only more crying over pvp STOP There is no way to do it in Dayz, without breaking the sandbox FULL STOP Edited September 8, 2013 by Frytek

Cormyr 39 Posted September 8, 2013 No crazy bosses, does not fit. Amur tiger! hell yeah. Like the zoo idea, as long as the exotic animals found there could actually survive in that climate.

Karmaterror 982 Posted September 9, 2013 Regret using the word boss lol, dosent have to be a comic book super vilan, jus a lore friendly pack of wolfs that are very hard to kill. Read somewhere that they might be adding animals that can attack you, if animals are enemis aswell them wouldn't it make sense to have a pack guard some loot. We already have that with zeds at crashsites. They could do it so its just as hard as a crashsite, but for me I want something in the environment that can rly challenge a team, and that dosent involve hunting down other players :)
